I concur that our track record in the last century was horrible and we're currently in the process of fucking up big, barring a major paradigm shift in the public opinion regarding Merkel.
Still though, people need to acknowledge the multiple times we have shaped the identities of both Europe and the new world (we have a very large diaspora pretty much everywhere, most notably in the US) in a beneficial way.
For example, many of the world's greatest mind in the fields of arts, literature, science and philosophy were Germans. Planck, Röntgen, Einstein, Hegel, Kant, Dürer, Goethe, Schopenhauer, Oppenheimer, Leibniz, Koch (Penicillin and sheit), von Braun (who accomplished the remarkable feat of propelling Amerilards into space), those are just off the top of my head.
Furthermore, we experienced considerable economic growth despite adverse circumstances during the Second Reich (1871-1918). I mean, prior to unification we were just an incredibly loose accumulation of rural kingdoms and duchys reigned by absolutist monarchs who didn't give two shits about their subjects. After 1871 we industrialized HARD and went on to be like one of the world's most powerful economies, second only to the USA.
Another time we pulled ourselves up by the bootstraps was after WW2 (t-thanks for the Marshall money, burger-kun), and also after Unification in 1990 as well as our impressive recovery from 2005 onwards, when we went from broke as fuck to what we are today in terms of economics. Blame Schröder for our nosedive early in the 21st, turns out you oughta make up your mind as to whether you're a socialist or a crony capitalist BEFORE you hold office.
Bottom line is we're a people with an incredibly eventful history, which in turn inspired an extremely diverse culture and brought forth an abundance of relevant scientists, all that despite being in ruins after war many times (30-Years-War, the WWs wreaked havoc upon our cunt that no one else can fathom.
Here's to us!
