This thread is for the discussion of the language, culture, travel, daily life, etc. of Japan. Let's tark at randam in Japanese and English. Take it easy!
I often think about leaving for Canada or Japan, anywhere but America. But the only way to make it better is for us to stay here, or else only the blind Nationalists are left and I can only imagine what would happen to America if they were the only ones left.

It's impossible to make natural sentence for non-natives though. I'm satisfied if people can understand my broken sentence.

Maybe for old people that are terminally ill, but definitely not for regular or young people

The alphabet.
If I wanted to learn German or Italian, I could immediately start with words, verbs, etc. With a language like Japanese, you have to first start learning Hiragana, Katakana, Kanji, etc. It's a lot of work.

Does writing/reading Japanese give you a special feel, because our letters are totally different from alphabetical languages?
I'm not able to read or write anything yet. I'm only just beginning. I'm still not sure if I'm willing to learn the language still. On one hand, I really want to learn a third language, and Japanese is one of my better choices. On the other hand, it's a lot of work and I fear I will be judged for it. For now I just lurk in the general.
As for your question, yes it does. Japanese is very different from the two languages I know, so it feels different getting to know it.
You are Canadian, so I guess your second language is French, maybe? Do people around you recommend you to learn Chinese instead of learning Japanese, because there are many Chinese living down there in Canada?
Isaac James
My first language is French. My second language is English.
No, not really. There are a good number of Chinese in Canada, but not where I live. Most minorities live in the big cities, and I don't live in a big city, more like a mid-sized one.

>Is it real that people in Quebec speak French in daily life instead of speaking English? yeah, we're not cajuns
in the US they also have some french people but they're slowly disappearing because they just don't use it
>Is there people who can't into English? yeah, sometimes they don't learn it either because they can't, or they're dumb kids who don't see the importance of it
the older generations also tend to suck at it
Connor Howard
Not just the Chinese, most immigrants I would say. Majority of them are more familliar with English than French. We also have strict language laws. Usually, immigrants will have to learn both English and French to be succesful here. They'd rather go to another part of Canada where only English is needed.
Immigrants that do come here however will mostly go to Montréal because it's the biggest city and speaking only English there is more acceptable than anywhere else in Quebec.
Nolan Brown
>yeah, sometimes they don't learn it either because they can't, or they're dumb kids who don't see the importance of it >the older generations also tend to suck at it sounds like japan lel
Jeremiah Rogers
Yes and yes. At home, in the streets or in the stores, at school, etc. It's all French. Most know a little English I would say, but there are definitely some that do not speak it at all.

Our English classes were even worse than Japan's, to be honest with you.
Most of the time, the teacher had no fucking clue what he was doing and just gave us crossword puzzles. If you wanted to learn English back in my day you had to go out and do it on your own.
