Is it popular to grow onions in your country?

Kind of... I had a few on my windowsill when I was a kid. I just like onions.

Yes. I grow onions in my garden

Why don't you grow any at this moment?

>onions don't grow in supermarkets
Where the hell does Walmart get it from?

I'm to lazy to take care of them. I just buy them at the store.

dude you literally just have to put one in a cup and fill the cup with water and their leaves will grow
how can you be that lazy?

And then you need to wait a few weeks for any result.

Is that a jade plant next to them?

yes

I grow peas, zucchinis and onions in my dacha. Zucchinis grow pretty huge.

All as home plants:
We have tomatoes, chilli peppers and various herbs.

Don't they need any nutrition?
We were thinking about planting them in earth (even though I don't think they aren't that good for the stomache).

Yes but in a field, not like that. How are they supposed to grow like that?

they only need water

my parents grow onions at their dacha

How is that supposed to work?

never grow onions in my garden, but i have some ribes and raspberry

Doing that doesn't produce new onions. You're just growing some useless flowers

listen, my image is proof that they only need water to grow. I don't know why, but it's working.

>not growing potatoes

shamefur dispray

The green top is edible and is more nutrient than the onion
also tastes better

The onions in the picture don't have enough space to grow which is obvious since they don't stick out of the soil if you have them in your garden or in the field.

>ribes and raspberry
God tier. Gooseberry can be great, too.

>I don't know why, but it's working.
It's only greens growing, those take the nutrients from the onion.
But the onion won't grow. You have no nutrition surlpus but the exact opposite when you harvest the greens.

>they only need water

Allright, let me just put my onions to grow in darkest corner of my basement with no lights, don't worry I'll put tons of water though.

They will also need nutrients, other than light.

onion farmer here. last year produced 200 tons.

Your onions are very nice
Please update the picture
I lookforword a new thread tommorow

damn son
ok german, I will listen to your advice

yes

phone's charging wait for a few minutes

Here's mine I started in October (winter onions), they're now partially kicked down so that what is in the leaves goes into the bulb (leaves will yellow in a week or two) and then ready for picking up
It should be a rather poor, non-fertilised soil though, else they'll tend to flower which you don't want (some of mine unfortunately started to so I snapped the flower stalks, probably the very mild winter to blame)

...

Very nice
Will you name them?

here's what I just did

you don't name food

Why don't you want them to flower? the green tops are edible and taste good

Yes you do

well my most favorite one is the one in the milk carton in the right upper corner
lets call him " favorite"

Because the plant then uses all its energy to put into the flower instead of the bulb

oh. well that's what I want really lol
are onions reusable? how do they spread?
I'm going to take a nap so don't leave the thread, german

(There's 2 of us here)
You can either sow them yourself or put mini-onions into the ground.
Those mini-onions are made by sowing very denesly into well fertilised soil, letting them grow a little, and then giving them some heat treatment (commercially), then sold

/grd/ gardening board when

We have and it's not even THAT slow

Before /out/ most of the plant threads were in /an/ right?
/howgrowing/ and general farming goes in /out/ now and other plant-topics like Floristik in /an/ do I get that right?

Yes, onions, potatos, pumpkin, watermellon and tomato

Sorry all the room is already taken by the weed

all these onions is reminding me of that movie where they climb a mountain for sweet onions, where would one find sweet onions?

>/an/
Isn't that almost only "r8 muh doge/kot/hamster..." threads nowadays?

Yes. They are cheap as fuck in stores, but people still grow them. My grandparents grow them, my parents do and so do I. Only that, we grow them in gardens not windowsills.

There is actually a region in Estonia where the onion growing is so popular that there are annual fairs where people sell their stock en masse and show off with different cultivated species.

Actually, now that I checked, these fairs are all over the country...

Have some green onions and garlic bulbs growing in my spice garden right now.

I'm like an onion myself.

with a lot of layers?

...

It's not like people grow onions in their garden, but they're a common crop in some departments.

>not having a special plot of land in your garden solely for growing produce

I wish I could grow some produce in my garden, but I work and wouldn't be able to take proper care of it :(

Not really, theyre kinda really cheap at the market anyway.

I have shit acidic soil, so basically works better if I jus fill box with better soil and grow in that.
