Got caught torrenting

ISP called, I got caught torrenting. I guess tor isn't enough. Serves me right for being too cheap to pay for vpn.

My question is, the date they listed they had got me I literally wasn't home; so if companies delayed report the couple other big ticket games I torrent, how boned am I? Because they already gave me a warning today.

I know I won't actually get prosecuted, but I'm gonna be pissed if I get my internet shut off after I stopped torrenting.

while the ip that sends the packets might not appear as yours your IP is embedded unencrypted in the data in the packets OP

0/10 bad bait or you are a really stupid

>2017
Why are you not using XD**?
If you really wanna continue torrenting, then use Private Internet Access' VPN.

In regards to Tor, you should consult the documentation for Tor and find out why that's retarded. If you just had the Tor browser open to download the .torrent files and then open up the .torrent files in your torrent client then nothing went over Tor anyway.

Also: Don't use uTorrent. Use Deluge or qBittorrent

>Sorry, it won't happen again

ISPs only issue warnings to cover themselves, because they could be liable for contributory copyright infringement if they don't. But honestly, they foot-drag on any sort of penalty because they know a sizable chunk of their users pay for higher speed access to be able to torrent.

>In a case determining whether and under what circumstances internet service providers may be held liable for the uploading and downloading of infringing copyrighted musical works by their subscribers, the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia held ISPs can be liable, if the ISP fails to properly follow the Digital Millennium Copyright Act (“DMCA”). See BMG Rights Mgmt. (US) LLC, v. Cox Commc’n, Inc., No 1:14-cv-1611, 119 USPQ2d 1165 (E.D.Va. August 8, 2016).

>torrenting through tor
wew
Use private trackers+seedbox

>qBittorrent
Yeah, considering he's getting caught, it would be best for him to use a client that doesn't work.

tor can only forward tcp
bittorrent uses udp
how the fuck did you even start a download

OP, yeah I'm new to computer stuff so I will freely admit I'm retarded.

>bittorrent uses udp
It can use TCP.
There are many browser clients out there

>ISP called, I got caught torrenting. I guess tor isn't enough.
Wtf you did?

you would need to use a whonix gateway to force the traffic through tor but you shouldn't torrent using tor because it slows the network down and your download would be slow as ball anyway

use a vpn faggot

>Torrenting via Tor

Are you dumb?
Most ISP's flag Tor users for closer examination.

>land of the free

So, enlighten an autist; give me a quick rundown on how not to get caught. Explain as though you are speaking to someone who is literally retarded.

turn off ur pc

just tell them you were downloading linux ISOs

interesting
can you use tcp for dht lookups as well?

can someone confirm this?

sudo apt-get install deluge
Then configure your VPN. Mullvad and PIA are good.

Autists are supposed to be good at shit like this OP. Anyways, if you want to keep torrenting get a VPN and follow their instructions to set it up, then google how to set up your torrenting client to use a VPN. If you don't want to keep torrenting you could probably do noting and noting will happen, if something happens just deny that you were torrenting say that you had no password on your wifi or something, to be extra safe you could hide/trash your hard drives.

I doubt they pay employees for that.
That's NSA's job

Thanks guys

A seedbox in a country that still has actual freedom rather than Freedom(R)*, and private trackers.

When I hear this shit I almost can't believe it.
In my country this doesn't ever happen. No ISP will tell you you torrented/pirated. At all.

> torrent
> tor

It's like you actually WANT to get caught. smfh

Stop torrenting.
Pirates have no place in our society.

They only have place in your mother

whats better than qbittorrent

ut221

you have to use private trackers, that's the only thing.

i downloaded a celeb porn tape from the pirate bay a few years ago and then my isp emailed me with a warning, then the company that goes after pirates emailed me saying i have to pay $500 or else they will take it to court or some shit, i live in canada so i was like pft i'm not paying shit they aren't going to go to court over $500 and i just ignored their e-mail.

your isp doesn't give a fuck that you torrent, they just care when they get e-mailed about you downloading copyright shit.

good thing i live in canada and my isp (Rogers) didn't hand over my personal info to that company.

> ISP called

That seems a bit sketchy. Will ISPs actually call you over this? What ISP? The one time I got a warning over this Verizon sent an email. Sounds like a scam. Like how the ((IRS calls and says you owe big and are alerting the authorities))

You don't torrent on tor, you fucking idiot.

So use a qBittorrent with a VPN? Not OP, but I'm fairly new to torrenting.

>torrenting on TOR
You deserved to get caught

>torrenting on TOR
Not only are you an idiot, you're probably a sick fuck too.

challenge them, say you weren't even home and to corroborate your story you get a witness from work or whereever you were

>then use Private Internet Access' VPN.
Dont private trackers disallow VPN's?

>Not knowing 99% of torrent clients just bypass tor and leak your IP
Did you honestly not do any research before you started to torrent over tor? This is why you use a VPN.

they do not bypass tor, but leaking the ip is just how the torrent protocol works

>ISP called

stopped reading there

>torrent all the time with bittorrent and no sort of proxy at all
>never gotten any warning
Feels good

>2017
>still torrenting

kys already

This is sickening. These companies are literally worth billions and their CEOs literally wipe their ass with fucking 100 dollar bills. Its not like most normies torrent anyway. So what kind of sick mindset they have to go after a bunch of people who can't afford shit?

That said, if the days comes and I can't torrent shit without getting beheaded, I will delve into my pdf library and read books throughout my life, even if I have the money to afford Jew Entertainment Subscription (R).

Just don't seed on public trackers
ez letter avoid

vpn shill thread. reverse psychology wont work here.

"The problem is that several popular Bittorrent clients (the authors call out uTorrent in particular, and I think Vuze does it too) just ignore their socks proxy setting in this case."

One of many problems with torrenting over tor.

IDK but my ISP apparently don't give a flying fuck if I torrent or what I grab from torrents. Over the years at my height of torrent mania I downloaded over 2TB of mixed content. (Mostly shows/Movies & porn but some software to). They (ISP) didn't bat an eye. These days I don't torrent nearly as much and the few times that I do use torrent it's for smallish files (say under 4GB). Those times are mostly on the behalf of other people, they don't got a clue what a torrent is.

well you obviously do not configure network settings in the application
you configure it in the os that runs the application

it is as retarded as using the windows firewall to firewall windows services

Please post your country, what you exact content you were caught over if you know it and what trackers if possible.

This.

Should he also post his adress, social security number and a clear photo of his fingerprints too?

>non-identifying information of use to the rest of us is the same as identifying information of no use to the rest of us
How many times were dropped on your head as a child?

>He doesn't know
You may leave this board now, my child

IIRC, in the USA, ISPs are required by law to inform their customers if they are suspected of piracy. They generally don't give a fuck and are just covering their asses.

To be safe, pay for a VPN. If you're concerned about any loss in speed, create a virtual machine to connect to the VPN and download the torrents.

>If you just had the Tor browser open to download the .torrent files and then open up the .torrent files in your torrent client then nothing went over Tor anyway.
No one can be that dumb.

Torrents send your ip to the tracker or broadcast it in the dht. Tor is useless.

Also, stop living in a cucked country.

This does not prove your point. The protocol still has to send your ip. If you wanted to torrent through tor you would need a dedicated IP to setup an entry point.

>a cucked country.

AKA a country that produces most of the content people want to steal.

...

So that's what freedom™ tastes like?

t. cia nigger

>AKA a country that produces most of the content that is not worth paying for.
ftfy

The only content I want to steal is produced in Japan t.b.h

shit, was meant to post this

They tend to give you three warnings and then cut off your service. Never admit to doing anything. The copyright owners don't get detailed information on you from the ISP's because the ISP's still want to have customers.

>ISP calls you because torrenting
LMAOOOO

>not using peerblock
shakingmyhead

You didn't really shake your head.

I'm shaking it right now if you know what I mean

This. Seedbox + VPN to seedbox

I like to suck cock too.

You weren't tunneling your traffic through TOR
And you shouldn't try.
Get a VPN

god tier advice tbqh

lol I've gotten dozens of warnings from my ISP they literally do not matter

That is not how it works.
The ISP only delivers the notice. The media companies track the tracker and dht to find who is torrenting and then notifies the ISP. Even if she did tunnel the traffic the client still would have to announce it's ip to the network.

best meme 2011
How about 32MB pieces in a torrent? Ah right, µTorrent 2.2.1 cannot add them! Blimey!

>torrenting in 2017
lol

ISP here.
You're all going to the slammer.

I mean I am not defending µtorrent
but 32MB piece size is retarded
you want small pieces (just not too small) to quickly enable peers to help distribute the file

Wait could someone clarify this for me, surely OP didn't just browse to the torrent site and then start a download outside of the tor browser right?

How can the ISP see you're torrenting if you get the torrent traffic through Tor? All they would see if encrypted traffic from you to a tor node right

Anyone here a Cox Communications subscriber/User? I've had x8 DMCA strikes since may 2015. Read an article somewhere about it taking 12 or even 15 stirkes before you get your first warning and have to call your ISP to clear up your account. how many strikes to you people have so far?

>they aren't going to go to court over $500 and i just ignored their e-mail.

Good goyim, when you get called by the court to pay for the $500 + $1.500.000 in damages Goldberg&Stein buffet will give you deal with a 5% discount.

the exit node sends the torrent protocol packets to the tracker
inside those packets is the IP of the compooper the client is running on because the tracker/other peers needs to be able to connect to it

Ah ok so the torrent doesn't know how to route the seed data through tor, it has to do it directly to the public IP of the client, gotcha thank you

>torrenting
>tor
Low quality bait.

>needing a torrent network to download Linux ISOs
Lol, my connection is like 1.5 MBPS and I can download Linux ISOs just fine over the browser connection.

This desu. Get some other retard to download shit for you and play them offline.

>PIA
You spelled NordVPN wrong

>no one addressed this

General advice: Don't download porn or new releases. Everything else gives you a better chance of being struck by lighting than sued.

I got love lettered twice. Once in 2008 for downloading Hurt Locker. Once in 2014 for downloading that Ingrid Michaelson song. Both from the pirate bay. Nothing happened either time.

I never get caught but it's probably where I live. NZ is too small for anyone to check what you are doing.

>NordVPN
That's not how you spell Mullvad

Don't actually respond to those notices. They can't prove anything, they're just hoping you reply to it and incriminate yourself.
