Pricing of the i3/i5 line up just needs an improvement and a REAL IPC improvement while we're at it.
Ryzen 5 was never meant to beat an unlocked i5 in a direct apples to apples comparison in games or tasks that are heavily single threaded or don't quite make use of more than 4 cores. Any one who tries to claim otherwise is a complete retard because that much should've been obvious. But see the thing is, AMD never had to beat Intel in the IPC game because as long as AMD comes close enough at a considerably lower price, that's MORE than enough to shift people to buy from Intel to AMD.
Take a look at the i7-6900K vs the R7 1800X. The i7-6900K is a bit better in some applications and trades blows with the R7 1800X in other cases. But that minuscule difference isn't worth $500. That's where AMD is beating Intel. MOST people don't need the Quad Channel memory support or the 40 PCI-Express lanes but it's still certainly a selling point. For those people who don't care about the cost, the choice here is obvious.
That being said, Ryzen 5 is being targeted at people who do other things with their desktops. Maybe in the future 6/8 Core CPU's will be the gold standard in gaming applications, but the way I see it we're still wee bit far way from that. The way I see it, Ryzen 5 is a literally a gift from the Gods to the lower end budget streamers who don't have a garage full of cash to dump into their new gaming rig. To me that's the real purpose of Ryzen 5.
While people who purely game and don't edit pictures/videos/music or stream aren't going to be affected by the extra cores/threads on Ryzen 5 CPU's, but to those who DO it could be the difference between light and day.

Thanks for asking. Of course I bought Ryzen 1600, the deal is too sweet. I will upgrade to nextgen Ryzen 7 years later when software will catch up to the core count.

Bought a 1700X for the higher rated TDP envelope. I game a bit, but mostly bought it for work. I do lots of computationally intensive simulations with massive data sets. The extra threads aren't very helpful for gaming performance, but they cut down my run times to about a third of what they were. Once Naples comes out and this shit makes it to server farms, hot damn.

of course not

they just caught up after years, anyone with the intention of having something that's this powerful has already had that for years with intel

Salty Jewtel (TM) fanboy having some self doubts?

soon, my 8320 has been gud to me, but want a refresh.
shopping around for parts.

>AMD
kek, I'm waiting for my Skylake E

I was close to buy a R7 1700. But Instead I bought a i7 7700K and everything feels good man. I also got lucky my chip can hit stable 5.2GHz. Just saving up money for a GTX1080 Ti

On ivy, waiting for second iteration with all the first generation kinks ironed out.

didnt read lol

switched to the 1700 from my i5 4670, no regrets, best CPU purchase in 4 years

Just got my 1600 today. Need a new wireless card to fit the PCIe slot, will get that tomorrow on the way home from work and setup my new rig.

Stop being an idiot and use Ethernet.

What ram did you go with?

I never fall for any meme since 2600k.

modem is in the lounge room because that's where the phone jack is. Could not be bothered setting up a router in my computer room or running a cable through the house. Any options I'm overlooking?

Ethernet isn't good in many places. A friend of mine got his motherboard fried twice because of a thunderstorm shock coming from the internet line, which is obviously unshielded against thunders.

Buyer's remorse thread?

Well I predicted Zen would be trash.
Guess I was wrong.

It's not a bad choice
Buying the FX series was a horrible buy no matter how you looked at it.

I'm looking forward to the i7 6 cores that will drop eventually as a result.

i did... ryzen was a mistake

Did not fall for AMD ever.
Gonna build 7700K build in a month.

Enjoy shelling out 1k$ for a House fire 6 core

Just sold my 7700k and bought an 1700X, not worth the stutering and the housefire, Ryzen is much better and smoother even in gaming.

Wish I could stay on my Phenom ll for a year or two longer but it recently started microstuttering and the mainboard is dying too feelsbadman

I didn't buy AMD, but I am very disappointed.

>Single thread performance shit
>More expensive than Intel
>A fucking pentium has better thread performance than the 1800x

>17 clocks

Yeah I switched to Ryzen since the i5 is obsolete now

The 1600 is the best deal, Kaby Lake-X is a really bad joke.

I got a job m8, money ain't a problem.
>6 core
You mean 10

>Bought a 1700X for the higher rated TDP envelope

That was dumb of you. Listed TDP has zero meaning beyond stock settings. You're getting literally nothing except a higher clock out of the box with the 1700X. The 1800X is the only one which overclocks any better, and it's due to better binning, not TDP.

>As of 3/13/17, the top 26% of 1700s were able to hit 4.0GHz or greater.
>As of 3/13/17, the top 29% of 1700Xs were able to hit 4.0GHz or greater.
>As of 3/13/17, the top 73% of 1800Xs were able to hit 4.0GHz or greater.

>Single thread performance shit
The IPC is around Haswell/Broadwell level. The clocks are just lower
>More expensive than Intel
Wrong.
>A fucking pentium has better thread performance than the 1800x
Because it's clocked higher with 4 times less cores. Put any CPU heavy task on it and it will scream.

that is why I paid extra buck to get a board with two PCI slots
if only somebody slapped one IDE onto the board I would be totally happy

>You mean 10
That'd be 2k$ then.

>Buying the FX series was a horrible buy no matter how you looked at it.
price was right

...

Still not a good deal M8. Over paying for the Intel Epeen while could have used that 500$ for a better SSD/GPU.

>GPU
Haven't grown out of vidya I see

Vidya is pretty much the only reason anyone should even consider buying an Intel CPU at this point.

It's probably not good for a beginners build but it's great if you've done a few builds and know what you're doing.

no way. cheap ass 6300 got me through uni like a dream

>tfw you shrink your porn collection from 5TB to 2TB because Ryzen 7 is an h.265 beast encoder

Buy another router as a media bridge

>Muh house fire
It's like you're not capable of individual thought or something...

I still play the ocassiocal game here and there. You do know that GPUs have uses other than video games right? Ever heard of OpenCL/CUDA?

>responding to trollposts
shiggydiggy

>5TB to 2TB
Is this real?
How long does it take to re-encode 5TB of video on ryzen?

Building some new computers for my entire family in the near future. It's all going to be AMD because Intel are cunts.

how could someone do this to their own flesh and blood

Paying less for better hardware? Dunno.

fall for what exactly? same shit different day?

Because some people actually DON'T hate their family.

>intel 7600k is cheaper than the 1600 in yuropoorland

Well, I guess I'll stick with supporting the jews then.

No, no it's not

few minutes

lol what

the only thing intel even has going for them is MUH GAYMES

Maybe in your country, but not in my shitty one. But even checking amazon.de the Ryzen is only cheaper by 10-20 eur.

Certainly not enough to offset to cost of having to buy a DGPU with Ryzen, and the intel integrated one is plenty for my needs.

Well, you need to take into account the motherboard, Z boards are not cheap.

>muh 6900k housefire

but it's like 20 euros for a cheap discrete gpu

>le igpu meme

lol fuck no

have you seen these ddr4 prices?

Damn, that's true, it's been a while since I build a system, didn't expect to be jewed that hard for those. Well, a non-K chip with a cheaper chipset is still a more economic solution than a Ryzen + DGPU, but also leaves me without OC for some more future-proofing.

I'll have to research this more.

fpbp

100GB of 1080p movies where each file is around 2GB each.

One file takes 15-20 minutes using the "VeryFast 1080p30" preset but with h.265 instead of h.264.

no one's spending that much on a cpu and not buying a graphics card

I can't wait until the apus release so you shills stop this retarded integrated graphics troll

You do know that people can have different needs, right? Not everyone is a gaymer kiddie like yourself.

I bought a 1700X for my 380X, and am waiting for Vega.
The compile times are insane.

>igpu

Don't try to use logic against igpu retards.

if you need don't need GPU for your needs and you are using your PC as facebook machine, then getting anything but G4560 is dumb.

If you use it for any multithreaded work, getting 7600 over 1600 is also dumb.

If you truly work with stuff, you wouldn't rely on a igpu...

My nigga, just bought mines about a hour ago. Feels good, upgrading from a x4 640.

TL;DR
Cheaper with comparable performance - good. Ryzen was targeted to be more affordable option.

When a Sup Forums argument has retarded / autistic alongside first 1 - 2 lines you know to ignore it - because it's just another angry basement dweller / anime enthusiast with opinions based on delusion and not real life.

>i5 2500 nonk @4ghz
Should i even bother or just get an 3570k on my z68 chipset and OC?

>X299 is literally Kabylake hexacores/octacores

1800X is finished

Knowing Intel though they'll fuck it up with their pricing

1500+ dollarydoos for the 10-core
1000 for the 8-core
400+ for the 6-core

Could use pic related. I used them for a while but you may have concerns like pointed out regarding surges.

>"""""upgrading""""" from an i5 to an i5
>"""""upgrading""""" from Sandy Bridge to Inferno Bridge
>"""""upgrading""""" from solder to thermal jizz

You buy a 2600K or 2700K if you're intent on keeping your current platform. There are no other worthwhile upgrades. The 3770K is a housefire and any IPC gain is drowned by lower clocks.

Do the math again you dumb fuck.

In order to get the most out of intels iGPU (4k60hz playback etc) you need to get a top of the line mobo for DP support, not to mention overclocking too. Its literally cheaper to get a proper GPU for 100 dollars than to waste money on Intels platium mobos and unlocked "features".

>X299 is literally Kabylake hexacores/octacores
except its not, the only kabylake-x is the 7740k
>NEW socket lga 2066
>4c 8t
>112W Housefire™

everything else is Skylake-x
>videocardz.com/68219/intel-x299-basin-falls-platform-to-launch-in-june
>6 - 10 cores
>140W Housefire™

now go shit your bed, corelet

>Knowing Intel though they'll fuck it up with their pricing
What's the point then?

SHUT UP

>You didn't actually fall for the meme, did you?

No, I bought one.

>4 cores...

>oh boy can't wait to stream netflix on my new 7740k----

Both Skylake-X and Kabylake-X are to use the same LGA2066 socket (Socket R4) and both will lack integrated graphics processors.

Just wait for Cannonlake

>just wait™
But why should i, mr. Shekelstein. Ryzen is so close, it's cheap and offers stellar performance.

>mfw quadcore memes trying to flame the pain away

will (((they))) solder cannonlake?

No.

>Intelaviv shills are the new Just Wait™ fags

this fucking timeline keeps on giving

Just wait for Vega so resident novideo shills will tell everone to Just Wait™ for Volta.

>Volta
>pascal die shrink to 12nm
>which was a maxwell die shrink to 16nm

can' fucking wait™

Maybe they'll change something architecture-wise. I mean Maxwell was good but there's no reason to sit their asses.

How the fuck is the 1700X at 4GHz better than 7700k at 5GHz with the same RAM

MOAR GIGAHURTZ

>i7
is there even any advantage?

More threads and more L3.

Im just a faggy vidyafag, how would i benefit from 4+ threads?

Less CPU chokes.
