RIP Bulldozer

How would you rate the various Bulldozer based CPUs and architectures?

First there was the architectures: Bulldozer, Piledriver, Steamroller, and Excavator.

Then there were the APUs based on the Bulldozer family: Trinity, Richland, Kaveri and Bristol Ridge.

Well Sup Forums? How will you eulogize Bulldozer?

220w garbage

S-stop bullying Bulldozer!!! He's d-dead, alright!?

Fuck bulldozer and all of its offsprings.

The only saving grace was the APUs were decent for poorfags.

Wasn't Phenom just a shittier Core 2?

There were precisely zero 220W Bulldozer parts.

still running "piledriver"

just werks

I fell for shitdozer two times, worst pieces of shit ever.
Regret it to this day.

you can all fuck off my 1100t has been magical for the past few years.

Off to valhalla soon though, it will join my sapphire 4870 and geforce 2 ti.

it was like driving an actual bulldozer to work

still not dead, the best 8core without hardware backdoor

The original Phenom was, it also had the TLB bug.
Phenom II was so good that the 1st line of Bulldozer was actually worse at the same clocks and barely clocked any better. On top of that Windows was poor at working around Bulldozer's shitty half-cores for a long time.

That's like 5% slower than my i3-2130. Nice TDP.

What made Phenom II so good?

It was a solid, well balanced architecture.
If they just kept refining Phenom II until Ryzen was ready, they wouldn't have been in the situation they got themselves into with Shitdozer.
Luckily they delivered with Ryzen and can finally compete again and it will only get better with Zen+ in 2018, while Intel still has to shit out Sandy Bridge for the 8th time.

Fool me once, fool me twice etc.
But seriously, how the fuck did you buy two construction core CPUs?

still running an 8350 and not seeing a reason to upgrade

All modern and and Intel CPUs have backdoors.

this

>tfw can max everything at 1440p with my 8350+Fury

>That's like 5% slower than my i3-2130

At what?

%2 faster than my i3 540

And yet batters an i7 930 also overclocked to 4GHz even in gaymes.

Really makes you think.

Still running a 8320, it's been almost 6 years now, happy with it, worked wonderfully.

My FX 8320 @ 4.1 GHz has been fine for me. Sits nicely with my RX 480. Perfect 1080p harmony

>bulldozer

wew lad, just get ryzen and trash that turd

Still running on FX-8370 and not in a hurry to upgrade any time soon.
It has enough performance for everything I do and the only downside is high power draw compared to other CPUs, but that's it.

Would an FX-8300 paired with a cheap mobo be worth it for a home server/encoding box? They're like $140 combo on Newegg right now and I have some spare DDR3 kicking around. They seem to be more bang for the buck than the low end quad core Ryzens and I'm not looking to drop $220 on a 1600 alone.

Yeah, on any game that uses one or two cores.

Yes

I don't think you can get anything better for $140, especially if you can utilize all 8 cores.

A6-7400K APU for $45

any good????

no

What about for $35?

Funny how people that dont do anything on their computer but play sub par console ports think multi core is not a huge advantage.

bristol ridge apus were interesting for destitute tier builds for faggots who can't afford gpus. otherwise fuck the whole lot of them.

i have a very weird use case (h.264 stream encoding + multiple virtual servers for various tasks) but my 8350 machine is doing breddy gud for what i do

my personal machines use an i7 3770 and some mobile i5 though kek

might give ryzen a try since that 8core 16thr sweetness might as well be a direct upgrade to the 8350

still shit, wait for raven ridge or get a pentium

>might as well be a direct upgrade to the 8350
>might
>M I G H T
you sure about that, might?

>pentium
uh no

well, definitely direct upgrade, but might not be worth it since new motherboard + memory + the cpu and the 8350 is doing just what it needs to do

itd be nice though to upgrade so i could have some headroom to put random development stuff on it

I bought an A10-7870K as a stopgap for Zen which will replace an old celeron office desktop once my mITX R7 1700 system is complete.
pretty solid, nothing to complain. of course I never intended it to play AAA gayems at ultra settings.

the pentium is the only worth while sub $100 cpu now, just face it intel is only relevant to poorfags in 2017

Bulldozer was garbage.
You don't give a eulogy to garbage, you throw it in the trash

Undervolt or overclock it senpai, they ship with a ridiculous 1.4V while they can work with 1.1V

im this guy, ill probably upgrade and then use the 8350 in some weird nas

125w cpu probably bad idea for nas, but fuck it YOLOOOOOOO

thanks, will undervolt.

>you fuckers think you know pain

...

i'm calling the fire department user, hold on in there

>mfw bulldozer will finally be utilized as vulcan and dx12 becomes more popular
>mfw no one will be using bulldozer CPUs by that time anyway

AMD thinks so deeply about backwards compatibility it is scary

>Intel in a year or so

>Kaby Lake-X
>4 fucking cores
>112 fucking W TDP

>Max 219.6W
wew lad

Trinity was thoroughly adequate. Kaveri was a little more so. Both had weird turbo boost bugs.

Die shrinks decrease power
2600K 95w 3.4ghz -> 3770K 77w 3.5ghz ( 74.8w at 3.4ghz )

it won't be, it stutters like hell even in those

>3770K 77w
Ivy was a housefire though.

Adding cores increases power. Unless you really think Intel can just keep adding MOAR MEGAHURTZ even when they've admitted the first 10nm chips won't even be on desktops and will perform worse than 14nm ones.

>moar clocks
>longer bipeline

Maybe they should start including an all-in-one watercooler and delidding kit with their next i7.

if they make skylake x 6 core magically 4.2Ghz and at least ~100TDP i'd have some hope for cofee

That sounds like a losing bet. They can't even get the i7-7740K under 112 watts.

They were all total shit.

>buying FX 9000 series
>not the 9590
You should have at least went full meme.

can't wait for another 180' and power not mattering again

AMD achieve one thing for sure - everyone is talking about their CPUs again
kind of amazing from "nobody cares" to " hottest topic"

>hottest topic

Of course, whatever metric shilltel is winning in is the only important consideration.

RYZEN CAN'T MELT STEEL BEAMS
AMD BTFO AND BANKRUPT

The Phenom II rivaled most i5s
