Linux SUCKS. Why? Because:

Linux SUCKS. Why? Because:

1) Command lines/Lack of GUI's

Why the fuck would I want to use a command line? I have a modern computer, capable of displaying color and icons. Why should their be a command line? And further, why doesn't everything have a gui? Gui's are good, and easy, and don't require me to learn commands. Yey for Gui's.

2)Root/sudo is stupid.

Why on earth should I have to deal with either using sudo or running as root to actually use my programs? I still can't get a lot of programs to run because they keep whining about permissions. What ever happened to good old admin accounts? Why does sudo break everything?

3)autism-get install/pacautism -S

Now this is just plane stupid. Why is it so damn hard to install anything? I have a desktop, why not do it the way it should be done? I get the installer icon, click on it, press forward a few times, wait, and have a nice icon on my desktop. Why isn't it done this way?

4)Compiling

Again, stupid. Just give me a fucking installer program. None of this compiling shit.

Come on Linux. The rest of the world has moved beyond 1990. It's time for you to do so also. I'm giving up and installing windows.

seriously ? thats the best you can do ? -2/10

Archfag, here. Should I just switch to Windows now or what?

I completely agree.

I kept seeing people talk about arch Linux.

I tried to install it for about ten minutes and realized I'd rather shop of my testicles and stick them in the microwave.

Why the fuck would anyone do this? Seriously, just go outside or something for fucks sake.

Just why?

shit bait

>expecting gui from unix family
wew lad

>Compiling
>Again, stupid. Just give me a fucking installer program. None of this compiling shit.
Apparently programs aren't being compiled on Windows.

I used to be like this too.
I started doing stuff with Raspbian and therefore learnd a lot of cli stuff and how unix' multi user approach is the core of leenux and different from windows.
Well using guis instead of cli seems to be kind of primitive now. It is just a completely different approach and I can understand why some people prefer unix based over anythig else.
When you are used to one system its hard to switch I guess.
As long as I have my just werks windows in the backhand everything is fine. Why am I even talking to you?

There are apt-get GUIs like synaptic.

1. Use a proper distro, I barely use the cli anymore except for some system configuration and on my server
2. Root/sudo is for installing system-wide applications and commiting system-wide configuration. You don't need it for anything else.
3. Again, use a proper distro that has s gui for the package manager, like most debian derived distros have Synaptics Package Manager.
4. Stop using gentoo.

2/10 lame bait and fuck you for making me reply.

>Now this is just plane stupid. Why is it so damn hard to install anything? I have a desktop, why not do it the way it should be done? I get the installer icon, click on it, press forward a few times, wait, and have a nice icon on my desktop. Why isn't it done this way?
This installer came from somewhere. Somehow going to site, downloading, executing and pressing forward few times is harder than sudo apt-get firefox.
>Again, stupid. Just give me a fucking installer program. None of this compiling shit.
Nice try. Now how about you show me about compiling stuff in Windows instead of executing a binary? Because you can do both easily in linux.

who is this dude
I think he isn't Stallman

>Color
It's colour you mongoloid.

Dear Linuxtards: there is literally no benefit to using a CLI if a gui is well designed

You can't prove me wrong because I'm correct

seotch.wordpress.com/2009/05/26/ubunchu02/

>You can't prove me wrong because I'm correct
You are an idiot, so a manga will do it.

Linux is free if your time is worthless

I know this is a copypasta but
>Command lines/Lack of GUI's
Most modern distros start a GUI automatically. You do not need to use a command line if you do not want to.
>2)Root/sudo is stupid.
Windows has the same thing, it's called UAC.
>but but I can disabled UAC
The equivalent on linux is always using the root user
>3)autism-get install/pacautism -S
It's probably more key strokes to google for the installer and get it.
>4)Compiling
A lot of software has precompiled binaries on their websites or to be found in a package. Even if you do need to compile you just follow the instructions step by step.

Compiling overheats your PC and makes it wear out faster, they do this to make up buy a new laptop from ubuntu

OP proves how retarded is the winblows fanclub. Please stay there and never approach a free OS.

The day I have to stop compiling is the day linux will have a chance but even then, l8nux on the desktop died 20 years ago

CLI is used for automating different things which is hard to impossible to realize with guis.
e.g. you got a list of filenames, replace every occurrence of string X with string Y.

Dont worry, no one wants to
Normies will never be sold on linux

>1) Command lines
that is literally the only good thing about it

>ultimate rebuttal
terminal emulator

Since when can fa/g/gots being retard and smug about it?

> Gui's are good, and easy, and don't require me to learn commands.
Yeah, you learn GUIs instead. That's how Windows Server administration was done before, BTW.

When my gay Mac fag cousin starts using linux on the desktop

Then kys

Um.. how about you don't use Linux then if you don't like it?

>Command lines/Lack of GUI's
You can use something Ubuntu or Elementary OS without ever touching the command line. Between the software centers and 2-3 clicks it takes to install .deb packages, this is no longer an argument.

>Root/sudo is stupid.
Typical Winshitter calling security stupid. You're the stupid one. You only have to enter the password when doing things like installing packages, editing system files, or using programs that could mess up your system if not used correctly. Every desktop OS I've ever used besides wangblows does this.

>autism-get install/pacautism -S
Again, the command line is not needed at all. We've gone over that.

>Compiling
Since when have you ever been forced to compile anything other than programs you create yourself? Almost everything made for Debian based distros is distributed as a binary. Total bullshit.

Again, stupid. Just give me privacy and a non-shit file explorer and file system. None of this forced updates shit.

Come on Windows. The rest of the world has moved beyond 1990. It's time for you to do so also. I'm giving up and installing GNU/Linux.

Ubuntu is for retards that can't use the command line. Install Gentoo

>Ubuntu is for retards
Why do you think I recommended it to OP?

Debian dev that commited suicide.

>The rest of the world has moved beyond 1990.
Desktop Leenocks died in 1997

My Red Hat and Mandriva CDs are going in the trash

Linux will never break 10% market share on the desktop.

There's so many linuxes out there, which linux do I pick... ohhhh, Archie's Linux is the simple version, perfect for mom! she hates these complicated tinkering programs!

Windows SUCKS. You want to know why?
1) Command lines/Lack of GUI's

Why the fuck would I want to use a command line? I have a modern computer, capable of displaying color and icons. Why should their be a command line? And further, why doesn't everything have a gui? Gui's are good, and easy, and don't require me to learn commands, but windows just lies and puts a command window up and calls it GUI. msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd184075.aspx

2)UAC is stupid.

Why on earth should I have to deal with either disabling UAC or confirming my super user access to actually use my programs? I still can't get a lot of programs to run because they keep crashing without setting UAC to run even though the program doesn't require it. What ever happened to good old runngin a program uder user accounts? Why does UAC break everything?

3)WSUS-get twelve hours maybe cycle of randomness

Now this is just plane stupid. Why is it so damn hard to install anything? I have a desktop, why not do it the way it should be done? I get the installer icon, click on it, press forward a few times, wait, and have a nice icon on my desktop. Why isn't it done this way? Why do I have to wait a random amount of time for WSUS to decide to report and query for its update cycle.

4) Scripting
Why does everything have to be done in powershell. Why can't I just do what I need to instead of using a GUI. Some stuff is there, but I generally have to script something to do anything advanced

linux on the desktop is like a rusty rusty child's bike

>macOS
Better luck next time lincucks

>buttmad POO IN LOOS itt becasue of and
AHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

MacOS creator

>OP is a dumb copypasta
>everyone falls for it

I know I'm dumb for responding to a bait thread HOWEVER:

When a someone other than a NEET who browses Sup Forums recommends using Linux, what they mean is that they recommend that you take advantage of 35 years of the most talented programmers on earth actively trying to make a system that helps them program better, as part of a culture that expects a certain set of tools to be available and operate in a particular way. They encourage you to become familiar with what serious professional developers use, in part because it means they don’t have to cater to the idiosyncratic behaviors of half-assed development environments, and in part because knowing how to use these tools properly will make you a better programmer — because that’s what those tools are for, and that’s what they’ve been optimized for.

It's really not for the average gamer/media consumer. It's for programmers and computer scientists. I would never recommend it to tech normies. What you need to understand is that this isn't really a Linux vs. Windows issue, it's more of a Windows vs. UNIX thing. Windows was designed with end-users in mind, just average people who don't understand computers and don't want or need to. UNIX on the other hand is almost a philosophy, a culture of hackers and computer scientists who wanted an environment that makes development and algorithmic computing easy without the operating system or a million layers of "user-friendly GUIs" getting in the way.

UNIX is designed to make the computer scientist's life easier. Everything at the foundation of UNIX is a small program that does one thing and does it well, as opposed to one huge program that does a million different things and opens the door for sloppy or convoluted design.

tl;dr Windows is designed for people like you, with developers as an afterthought. Linux and Unix-derivatives are designed for developers, with people like you as an afterthought.

Funny because Microsoft is all excited about how awesome it is that widows can has ubuntu+bash now.

>every fucking link on the page is broken
what the fuck man

>Windows is designed for people like you, with developers as an afterthought. Linux and Unix-derivatives are designed for developers, with people like you as an afterthought.
Couldn't have said it better.

So literally baby duck syndrome.

How can anyone dislike package managers?
>Open your favourite package manager
>Click the software you want
>It just werks
As opposed to Windows
>Google the software you want
>Download it, making sure to avoid the adverts peppered everywhere
>Run the installer
>Untick all the toolbars and other bloatware that gets installed by default
>Get told you don't have .NET or some other stupid shit, so you have to go download and install that first
>Finally install it
>Let it add itself to the other 500 background services polling for updates because there's no unified update mechanism

>letting an unpaid neckbeard decide what gets installed on your computer
Literal botnet

>1) Command lines/Lack of GUI's
proof it, not true. 99% have a gui
>2)Root/sudo is stupid.
>What ever happened to good old admin accounts?
Login as root, done, same on windows. I run every OS as root (windows included)
>3)autism-get install/pacautism -S
See 1) there is a gui for this too
>4)Compiling
same on windows.
>Just give me a fucking installer program.
these exist.
0/10 bait bullshit

You can't have a hand on your cock if you have both hands on keyboard for command line

>wanting a professional and efficient work environment instead of the clusterfuck of spaghetti pajeet code that is windows
>baby duck syndrome

I don't think you understand what that term means. The majority of professional computer scientists currently in academia probably started using computers and learned to love computers by growing up with a Windows desktop. And they just moved on to Unix because it suits their needs better.

>2)Root/sudo is stupid.
agree
>1) Command lines/Lack of GUI's
true but it's mostly text files/dconf that you need to edit
3)autism-get install/pacautism -S
convenience is autism
4)Compiling is bad
yes

If Unix users have baby duck syndrome, then Windows users have Stockholm syndrome.

No, they would have started with MS-DOS and the Apple IIe, my underage friend. Then they got memed into UNIX because their professors came from mainframes and didn't understand this "PC" thing. Then it's just baby duck all the way down.

You don't know what you're talking about

Linux doesn't follow the UNIX philosophy though

Currently nothing follow it if it's have monolithic kernel, so next to nothing.

>plane stupid
kill yourself

Found the anti-aircraft WW2 vet

Linux
>apt-cache search program I want
>pick one from a long list
>apt-get install program I selected
>Don't like it? apt-get purge

Yeah man, fuck linux, amirite?

Exactly. UNIX is dead. Windows master race

>buying winrar

Sounds like you would like Manjaro Linux, it fixes all the problem you have listed.

Windows cost $100 no matter the value of you time.
Linux is free if you time is worthless.
MacOS is free if you but a $1500 piece of hardware.
When will the Jews stop cucking us with operating systems?

what did you have to compile? are you on gentoo for fuck's sake?

> he likes installers that try to get you to install malware

>Linux is free if you time is worthless.

20 minutes to install and boot up Manjaro for first time. 5 minutes for a full rolling release update. Leaves you alone if there are updates available until you want them.

1 hour to install Winblows wait another hour for all the updates to load and configure. Get cucked every time there is an update by a system that literally forces you to stop working while it reboots multiple times.

You were saying?

He's the "Ian" in Debian, and a while ago the CIA killed him.
Not joking, they killed just like they did Schwartz.

Can you repeat this autistic rant IRL too? A linux meetup will do. At least you will realize how dumb you are now.

stale pasta

>buy a new laptop from Ubuntu
This

OK I know this is bait, but let me give a quick respond nonetheless.

1) GNU/Linux has lots of applications with GUIs. You don't ever have to use the command line with some modern GNU/Linux distributions. However, you'd be missing out.

Just know, I wanted to download the audio of a YouTube video, it was a matter of

youtube-dl -x

and I was done. No bloated GUI. Just pure bliss.

2) OK now you're just being a troll.

3) pacman -S what-I-want-to-install

how hard can it be

There's no such thing as GNU/Linux. It's just Linux
