If you would like to try out GNU/Linux you can do one of the following:
0) Install a GNU/Linux distribution of your choice in a Virtual Machine.
1) Use a live image and to boot directly into the GNU/Linux distribution without installing anything.
2) Dual boot the GNU/Linux distribution of your choice along with Windows or macOS.
3) Go balls deep and replace everything with GNU/Linux.

Fuck Stallman and Fuck Free People!

GNO.

Can someone recommend me distros?

Source Mage GNU/Linux

(((GNU))) and (((GPL))) are promoting (((communism))), say no to (((fglt))) and say yes to /flt/

SMG/L or GN2

Oh, Linux is not GPL software?

look at this retard
look at him and laugh

Libre does not mean gratis. GNU has absolutely zero problem with people being charged for software, and it encourages capitalism and business. The only thing it does not approve of is a business having leverage over what the users do with the program once they have it, but there is no problem with charging them for a libre product. If they wish to buy it and support it, that's their perogative to or not to.

Stop, Sup Forums.

A free (You) also from me, fellow master troll. Now go back to funnyjunk.

Does WinUSB work with Hiren's CD? I need to repair my WinShit's Boot BCD shit

>shit shit shit

You laugh, but (((communists))) and (((SJWs))) have infiltrated and shill (((GNU))). This general used to just be /flt/ till (((they))) took over.

Scew you, WinUSB is Linux software you deranged mongoloid.

are you the guy who talked about shooting 'commies'?

I've been thinking about learning some programming this summer.
Java? Haskell? SQL? Assembly? What do I do and where do I even begin?

also: C

No, that was a different user.

thats a shame.

Python is easy for beginners
Read this: automatetheboringstuff.com/

can I have this in higher res?

no

waifu2x

Sup Forumsacks actually believe this

4x (not so good)

>Whitespace
>Easy for beginners
Pick one.
C# is the best language right now in my humble opinion. C++ if you're going into gaym development, unless you're using the Unity engine, in which case you should go back to C#.

fuck you

thank you

>C#
garbage
>C++
ugly trash

What's wrong with based C you fucking numale?

>microsoft programming language

Recommend me a distro to run it from purely a Ramdisk.

idk user, my little brother can program in python and has no problems with whitespace, do you?

>Uses an inefficient and ridiculous language that can't reasonably handle memory that is 48 fucking years old
Who's the real autist here? Also, nice job being friendly.

> Not using HolyC

Puppy GNU/Linux

I come from a C++ background so I'm used to space not mattering as long as I declare things and end them. It should be my perogative to write ugly code.

Puppy Linux*

Hold on there, let me interject for a moment.

...

The distro is called "Puppy Linux."

stop namefagging plebbitor

that namefagging

...

I know.
It's just funny that sometimes people try to say "Arch GNU/Linux." Doesn't that just make your tongue feel rotten?

Base install of Alpine Linux is super small. (No, it's not a GNU system). If you want a more normal system Void is the next best choice.

Following the rules of English, in the construction “Foobar Linux” the word “Foobar” modifies “Linux”.

This basically means “Foobar's version of Linux”, but a Foobar GNU/Linux system includes more than just a modified kernel.

licking ur moms pussy makes my tongue feel rotten

Agreed.

Alpine may not be a GNU system, but it isnt "Linux" either.

Doesn't matter. You can name your distro whatever you like and that's the name. It could have been called Puppy Windows if they wanted it to.

What's the NetBSD of GNU/Linux?

Alpine uses the Linux kernel. Hence Alpine Linux.

>it isnt "Linux"
What did he mean by this?

The distro for autists that like to port stuff to literally-what platforms and is bearable usable?

install gentoo

When they spread misinformation by changing “GNU” to “Linux”, and call their version of it “Foobar Linux”, it's proper for you to correct the misinformation by calling it “Foobar GNU/Linux”.

Yes, but it's a title / proper noun, not a regular noun, so this grammar does not apply.

There is no impetus to do that.

When i try to run cmus i get the following error.

help a newbie

...

How can i make package from app i downloaded as .gz
For example, i downloaded PhpStorm and to run it i got to it's folder /bin/phpstorm.sh
What do i need to do to run it just by typing phpstorm in dmenu?

He meant that the Linux kernel simply cannot exist without being inside a GNU system.

Some Stallcucks actually believe this.

it means that alpine is a collection of software, that includes a kernel called linux, but thats it

Okay, boys, it's time to stop.
We have a serious question now.

You need to have the executable in you path.
You can link it to /usr/bin for example.
Use:
export PATH=$PATH":/yourdirectory/"
to add some directory to your path.

You can put this command at the end of a file called .bashrc in your home directory.

In common vernacular, if you have the Linux kernel, you often put Linux in the title. Would you prefer we call it Busybox/Linux? Does that change anything?

Does the file exist?
file /etc/decnet.conf

That's not correct. Nobody asks you to call systems like Alpine "GNU/Linux". How they call it is something GNU doesn't care about, since it isn't the GNU system (however, a clone), but when combining the GNU system with Linux, it should be called GNU/Linux.

I'm sure you'd like to believe that, but not everyone on the GNU train is intelligent enough to make this distinction.

it would be more easy to omit the kernel name completly, it just confuses people

example: nobody is asking to call android "just linux" or "android/linux"

link to phpstorm folder, or to phpstorm/bin where is .sh file?

this problem is mostly exclusive to GNU/Linux because historically everyone got into the habit of naming the system after the kernel.

The name "GNU" simply didn't catch. Linux was catchier. So it memed itself into being the title, I'd say.

In a perfect world, we'd call the OS simply "GNU", but we're not in a perfect world and sometimes you just have to go with the flow and not be a nag.

"linux", because it's popular and the linux foundation needs the cash
"gnu/linux" because gnu wants to make people aware of the orgin of the system, which is software freedom

bin

People frequently have a bin directory within their home directory. They add only this to the path and link anything necessary there.
You can put a . at the beginning of said directory to hide it. ".bin"

It's also useful to have a directory within your home where you keep all user scripts/software.

...

Could you please stop namefagging? It triggers me extremly.

I wouldn't call it Android/Linux or Android Linux, for the sole reason that nobody else does. However, with computer enthusiast, specialist and/or server operating systems, including the kernel in the name is very useful, for example Alpine Linux, Debian/kFreeBSD, Solaris, GNU Hurd, and so on.

Does anime trigger you too?

>Alpine Linux
Alpine/Linux*
Alpine Linux would be a kernel modification or a fork like GNU Linux-libre.

You don't know what the brain can do.

...

Alpine Linux is the official title.

Changing a space into a slash changes absolutely nothing. Please stop meming.

Stop being autistic and trying to rename stuff. At some point you should just call it by what it was named.

BusyBox/Linux*

...

Alpine Linux is a BusyBox/Linux operating system, but it is still called Alpine Linux because it is a TITLE. Period.

kys retard

what kernel config option causes this?

when I call a hambuger "alpine sauce", just because next to ham, salad, etc theres also "sauce" in it, I'm stupid and people are correct when they instead call it alpine burger

Do you have zram enabled?

It's just alpine, why meantion the sauce? Fuck this Linux shit.

...

...

Where are the janitors when you need them?

You didn't invent hamburgers. You don't get to name it.

>Linus Torvalds.jpg
it's just Linus

I'm been more helpful than you, cis scum.
Just look at the thread.

cool i was able to find it. thanks
