Holy shit this fingerprint scanner placement feels so unnatural if you're left handed. I'm seriously returning my s8

Yeah, I foresaw that as a problem.

Mind you, if you use the fingerprint scanner you have bigger issues.

Why not just use a different finger then?
Tinfoil hat

Thank god I'm right handed and it feels perfectly fine for me. Fucking handlets.

>left handed
stopped reading right there

>Tinfoil hat
There is no tinfoil hattery about it. Fingerprint scanner is a shitty security method that people just use because it can conveniently save them half a second.

What are your honest opinions on the new samshit phone, Sup Forums? How bad is it truly?

If the majority of people are right handed why isn't it on the other side. People hold it with their nondominant hand so they can use it with your dominant hand.
This phone was made for lefties

>villingfully presenting your own fingerprints to a botnet

its by the camera too so you will smear the lenses

If my phone didn't have a fingerprint scanner then I wouldn't use any type of security.

Same. I'll be sticking with my S7 Edge.

Meh. It's faster. I don't care if it's less secure than a long PIN. I don't have top secret documents on my phone. I only need it to be strong enough to keep the normies out, but I need it to be as fast and painfree as possible since I unlock it very frequently.

This. I tried a PIN on my last phone and it drove me up the wall so I went back to no security.

I at least hope it only stores them locally. It certainly appears to.

I don't mind the sensor placement actually.
But I CANNOT stand that I can't unlock my phone just by placing my finger on it.

Why in the fuck do I need to press a button while using the sensor.

What sense does that make?

>But I CANNOT stand that I can't unlock my phone just by placing my finger on it.
This is what makes the S7 so great. The sensor is on the button. Press the button and leave your finger there for a second, and you're in.

i don't understand why you all gravitate towards this marketing bezeless meme phone.

a more balanced looking and performing phone is the g6. with a better finger print scanner position.

The s8 fingerprint scanner on the back is a button?

Yes you can. I have the S8 and all you have to do is hold it a bit longer than usual.

I like the bezelless edges of the S6/7 Edge and S8 because it gets me a screen size in the phablet range without the phone feeling uncomfortably wide in my hand. I want as much screen space as I can get because I want my phone to be more like a pocket computer, but I can's stand how wide most phablet designs feel especially when using them for calls.

You know there's a setting to enable that though
Your phone can be locked and putting your finger on the sensor will take you to the home screen without pressing anything else

i'm lefthanded and it seems fine. return your hands.

the g6 does that well while not being retarded

Just wait till someone hacks your phone, steals your fingerprint, 3D prints your finger, kills someone, and puts your prints all over the crime scene. You'll wish you had listened to gold old uncle Sup Forums and kept your S8.

Is there? Other people are complaining about it too.
And there's no option in lock screen settings.

The fact that you use a fingerprint as your password makes me question why you're on Sup Forums.

The fact that you question it makes me wonder why you are.
Only full blown conspiracy nutters would ever think that they, even if someone COULD get your data, that they could even do anything with it.

Oh... wait. I know why you're here now.

Fingerprint scanners are easily one of the cheapest parts of a phone, they're even included in budget phones.
If it's placed on the back it's unlockable straight from your pockets.

I would call convenience hardly a issue and i'd say this is a good case of sour grapes.

>they got so close to perfection
Not even close, like, they're about as close to perfection as Earth is to some of the farthest galaxies spotted by the Hubble's latest deep field view

>yet they blew it
This I can agree with but it's not about the fingerprint reader, that's just a small part of it

I love it
>s8+

they did that so that you would use the iris scanner primarily

Why would they care? Also I don't want to hold my phone up to my face every time.

Fuck, I can literally do it right now
>s8+
>lock device, screen off
>touch finger sensor
>unlocks
but I went through all the settings and can't find it either
This is driving me crazy, but it definitely works, just have to place your finger right and hold it there for a second or two

The iris scanner is great, another biometric given to the NSA

It's not even about the time saving. I use fingerprint instead of pin to prevent people who are always nearby from remembering my pin.

Gf is nosy as fuck.

When will the screen or back be a fingerprint scanner so it can detect your finger anywhere? WHEN

S8 here. Iris scanner is easy and reliable. S7 Edge was the best phone I'd had before, edge was a bit of a gimmick and my palm would activate the edge of the screen. This seems fixed with S8.

Okay. After messing around for what seems motherfucking AGES, I finally figured it out.
You have to set the device to automatically lock at all times.

If you give a window to remain unlocked, you can't unlock with your fingerprint.

So you're right. It does have this feature. It's just the route to getting there was insanely contrived and makes no sense whatsoever.

>insanely contrived and makes no sense whatsoever.
eeeey just like samsung huh?

Also holy shit why is there no haptic feedback?
And WHY does it take 2 seconds?

The pixel is literally a worse phone and it does both of these things.

I know it feels like I'm complaining to complain now. But fuck, it feels like 1 step forward, 5 steps back with this thing.

it's clearly an afterthought because they blew it with the fingerprint reader behind the screen

reports say apple is in the same crap situation, and will have to cram the reader in a weird way until the proper fingerprint reader tech works

>touchwizz

>I use fingerprint instead of pin to prevent people who are always nearby from remembering my pin.
You have bigger problems if you have to practice caution with her around.

Tips tinfoilhat

Just use the iris scanner?

Hmm, my lock screen only comes on after 10 minutes
Maybe you need to also set iris scan set?

That's what many reviews noted. Your fault for buying a crappy phone and not even getting informed first.

In the USA you are required by law to hand over a fingerprint to unlock your device, however they cant make you cough up a PIN. but then again muh FBI CIA NSA Trump backdoor sekret hax

Just grab an iphone 7 plus m8, nothing is better right now.
Samsung is trash, it will start exploding.

The shilling is strong here.

Use pin with more digits.

>falling for the bootloop meme

what is the point?
You waste 10 seconds to read a message.

>moving goalposts

It's amazing.

Wait for Apple

>i'd say this is a good case of sour grapes.
My phone has a fingerprint scanner though. I don't use it. I use a pattern unlock because that is more secure and takes fuck all time to do.

Not a problem since you have to input your password once the phone is turned off.

Is the camera on G5 Plus really close in performance to the S8??

No, don't listen to moto fanboys or chinknovo

This is honestly retarded. I find it really stupid if you feel like returning a phone just for the issue of that placement.
From what I've seen it's quite an amazing piece of tehnology, not worth shitting on just for that issue.

I hold it in my right hand and use my thumb.

>not installing custom ROM on it and deleting Gapps
Nigga you ain't even trying

It took me one day to get used to. You people hate change.

>if you're left handed
Wow holy fuck guess what NOBODY CARES

>Leftie

>one of his biggest problem in life is that the fingerprint reader on his $1200 phone is a bit inconvenient to use

>Tinfoil hat
It's literally been proven that the government spies on you, yet people still say this.

this placement was god tier.

It's because the tinfoil hatters are always paranoid about the government spying on them in stupid, obtuse ways.

The government doesn't care about what store you went to. They don't care that you look at porn on your phone. They don't care about the sexy pics of your ex. They also probably won't steal incomplete biometric fingerprint data from your phone when they have better ways of getting your fingerprints if they want them. They also won't hack your phone to get fingerprint data they can use to hack your phone -- if they already have enough access to get that data out, they can already get anything else they want out without bothering to spoof your fingerprint to unlock the phone.

If they want to unlock your phone, they will unlock it whether you used a pattern, a fingerprint, an iris scan, or a 100 digit PIN. They have vulns and backdoors. Your security won't stop them. All you're doing is keeping civilian attackers out, and making it more difficult for you to get in.

They can also snoop on and modify data going to and from your phone over the internet. If you use cloud storage, they don't even need to bother hacking into your phone to get all they want.

TL;DR: Yes they're spying on you but your tinfoil hat won't stop them.

hold the phone with your right hand and type with your left hand?

>Fingerprint scanner is a shitty security method
Android requires you to enter your PIN once a day even if you enable fingerprint unlock.

No it doesn't. It requires you to enter a PIN after boot. I only see a PIN prompt when I reboot and if I fuck up the fingerprint too many times.

Update your Android

Unlock with your backup method
For security, you'll need to use your backup PIN, pattern, or password:

When your fingerprint isn't recognized after a few tries
After restarting (rebooting) your device
After switching to a different user on the device
After more than 48 hours have passed since you last unlocked using your backup method

So it's two days, not one day

How did a phone literally half the price do it right?
