Windows 10.

Which ever one suits your needs best.
I would say debian.

install gentoo

Trisquel

Whats the difference between Debian and Trisquel? using main repo only

arch if you like bloated piece of shit
gentoo if your wanting fast and cuztomise

Void

win7

linux-libre kernel (linux kernel minus the proprietary binary blobs)

elementary os is objectively the best linux distribution for desktops

windows

Solus

The DE is fine most of the time. Some indicators still tend to disappear. You can't manage proprietary drivers anymore and their software center is buggy as fuck. Forget PPAs. They removed the cmdln tool to manage/add those. Other eos apps seem to have problems of their own. Idk. I'd just go with Ubuntu GNOME + a couple of extensions. :/

Mint is for newfags

No printscreen. Buggy indicators and menu while the panel is on the bottom. Panel disappears if you open the raven sidebar right after the menu. Repository is still small. Desktop icons don't show up even if I enable them. Lts kernel even though it's supposed to be a rolling distro. Ancient systemd.. It's like they don't know if they're a rolling or standard distribution. They should focus on making MATE better instead of trying to make GNOME work. They're planning to move the panel and other components to Qt but still use the GNOME apps. XD
Idk. Just stupid over all.

Emacs

Not a distro.

Solus was such a fucking hypecow. There was literally nothing good about it except Budgies's interface and the "brand" it established for itself. It got meme'd to death.

Debian's kernel is deblobbed, so there's no reason to use trisquel. Also, isn't trisquel an abandoned project?

All those things are easy to fix yourself, why don't you?

Have they solved their security issues? Might as well install Ubuntu minimal CD or server with Cinnamon.

I did. I'm using Ubuntu MATE.

Just load it directly into ram and never turn it off

...

Oldfag here. I still like mint. Don't shit on the newfags for using it. At least they're trying to learn Linux.

If OP has the time to admin it, why not. :)

FreeBSD
repology.org/statistics/newest

It respects your freedom by not offering an optional repository for proprietary software.

The distro's head killed himself right after spouting a bunch of shit on twitter. Crazier than RMS!! I'm gonna go with the less crazy.

>I would say debian.
>I would say ancient piece of shit
TOP KIKE

If you need hardware support, use a newer kernel, newfag! There's absolutely no reason to use unstable tools and DEs/WMs!

debian

install gentoo
sage

Xubuntu with Compton!

Install Sabayon and feel comfy ootb

Use NixOS

OR

Use Debian/Fedora and use the Nix package manager for any software not available in the stock repo's.

Can FreeBSD still be used with the Nix package manager?

Can Gentoo be used with NixOS Package Manager?

>stretch exists

>leave Sup Forums during times of Kevin
>come back yesterday
>someone mentions Solus
>expect SHUT UP KEVIN etc.
>see Solus was garbage after all

Anyway OP kys then resurrect yourself and install Ubuntu.

Aside: is it true that Unity 8 is dead and they're going to use GNOME in its place? I thought the bees would be a-buzzing about it around here but I haven't seen any mention of it yet.

It's been almost a month since the announcement. Top GNU

unity is kaput

Everyone hates gnome, so we chose to forget and never mention it again.

Debian. Not memeing. Do it already.

As soon as 17.10 (October release). Ubuntu GNOME got merged with the main flavour as well.

Xubuntu > Debian with GNOME

I use ubuntu and i am backend web developer and everything is running perfect

thinking about installing Gentoo again but that compile stuff meh. what about Debian? can i use ubuntu stuff on debian?

>installing gentoo is too hard
>jumps right to debian and doesn't even mention arch
>can i use ubuntu stuff on debian?

just get a mac

No. It doesn't support ppa's or snap packages.

its not hard to install gentoo or archlinux.
i just want to get the most packages available.

It's not garbage. They just lost focus. It's started out fine. They were even saying that they wouldn't support other WMs and DEs. Now there's like 10. Other stuff is suffering since there's only one dev. :/

Like I said, port the desktop components to MATE and scrap the rest. Then build and optimise as many desktop tools as you can. They're just spread too thin.

>i just want to get the most packages available.
a r c h

Still have to compile everything in aur. Just get Ubuntu minimal CD and build up from there if you want a minimal setup. Jeez!

>10
xddddddd foony

If you need to ask this question then it only leaves Linux Mint.

Alternatively: Cuckbuntu, but its crap.

Cuckbuntu MATÉ to be specific ;^)

Trying to get a Debian Live USB working.

Used Universal-USB-Installer-1.9.7.7.exe with debian-live-8.7.1-amd64-kde-desktop.iso.

I am using a Medion Akoya S2218 with windows 10.

I went into the BIOS and disabled boot security. Then I changed the boot device order so the USB was first.

Still just boots to windows as normal. Help?

Check the sha256 sum - make sure the image isn't corrupted

I will investigate this.

>compton

The hash was correct

Arch

There's a reason for that 1% market share. Freetards can't get anything right.

I prefer Arch for the bleeding edge release schedule, Ubuntu can't ever come close to give me what I want.

Q4OS

What about Zorin?

Heavy as fuck. And it doesn't function properly, at least it didn't the last time I tried it. For example, having a dock shortcut and right clicking on it will give you something like
>open
>open new window
The second option doesn't work for most software.

Yes, the Nix package manager can be used with any GNU/Linux distro, as well as MacOS and FreeBSD

Any normie AND non bloated distro?

NixOS, package manager and documentation is fantastic and easy to understand.

KDE Neon
And maybe Fedora GNOME and Linux Lite.

9front

I'm late to the party as usual.

Not sure how to feel.

Fair enough.

Holy shit really? I thought they'd leave Ubuntu GNOME as the "pure" GNOME distro and brand the shit out of it for 17.10.

Nope. Mark even said it would be left as vanilla (ie no extensions). I expect they'll still put in a custom theme and icons + wallpaper.

nice trips richard

Nice trips, Murphy!

Kubuntu LTS

Install Slackware

install gallium

arch
/thread

Why would you consider Commie Linux? Install Windows. We need to shut this "Open Source" Socialist machine down!

Are you new?

Try Mint first and if you like Linux move onto something like Antergos (quickly because Mint is kind of shit)

Manjaro, KDE Neon, OpenSUSE or Xubuntu.

Use fedora 'tis based on RHEL

If you play a lot of games, I would recommend Funtoo.

It's built on top of Gentoo, but they made it extremely user-friendly.

And it has the best support for games. I have yet to run into a Windows game that did not run on Funtoo. Everything just works. Good luck

linux from scratch

PClinuxOS. Noob friendly and no stupid systemd garbage.

Ok?

Arch

Debian

How are any of the Cruchbang / #! based distros? I really liked #! when I used it.

Live by the meme, die by the meme.

Linux Mint XFCE if you're a beginner
