Actually a pretty decent lubricant - rapeseed oil has a long history of being used as one - but the second your gun gets even a little hot it all burns off and leaves a really sticky residue behind.

However, erucic acid, which is prevalent in some rapeseed cultivars, can cause heart problems at extremely high doses. Canola oil is made from rapeseed cultivars with low levels of erucic acid, though—that is chiefly what separates canola oil from other variations of rapeseed oil. Products sold as canola oil cannot contain more than 2% eruric acid in the United States, or more than 5% eruric acid in the European Union. I suppose if you're a European and you both have a family history of myocardial lipidosis and also guzzle a bottle of canola oil each day, you should probably cut back. Otherwise, it's really not any problem.
