When will Windows monopoly end ?!
When will Gnu end ?!
When Apple will make OS that can
(really) compete with Windows ?!
When will Windows monopoly end ?!
> Android
> """computing"""
Loving every laugh. Enjoy your appliance.
>When will Windows monopoly end ?!
When Android monopoly will end ?!
i don't even want to think about how TWh is wasted every year because android drains energy faster than kim karadshian drain your money
>monopoly
>has competition
Learn what the word "monopoly" means faggot
>apple
>interested in developing their desktop OS
Where is this competition, can you see it?
Nope, Windows still has 90% market share in PC Operating Systems
Apple should make MacOS for normal computers, this would be a good competition to Windows
>90%
The 10% is their competition.
Apple are forced to target specific hardware, else they would have too much works on supporting everything. You'd end up with something with a worse support than linux
>Apple should make MacOS for normal computers
They ditched their special snowflake architecture years ago, where have you been?
>Apple should make MacOS for normal computers, this would be a good competition to Windows
Then they'd need to charge for the operating system.
Why doesn't Windows/NT have this problem?
Because it's not M$ that write the drivers. It's the device makers.
Having a monopoly doesn't mean "no competition", it means "no SUBSTANTIAL competition." A 9-to-1 market share advantage means you don't have substantial competition.
So why can't MacOS/XNU use the same policy?
Look at the market share user. It;s not symmetric.
Why should they, they're making boatloads of money off the hardware and even despite their recent fuckups suck as the new macbook ""pro"" they still have people willing to buy.
>premium end competing with common end
Why are people here so retarded?
>Q1 2013
>When will Windows monopoly end ?!
It probably already ended.
Phoneshit ruins fucking everything.
Android is not a "computing platform" any more than an abacus is. Phoneniggers need to stop pretending they are actually doing anything productive with their devices, they are mindless consumers only "computing" what is necessary to keep them entertained. Android, iOS, any phone OS for that matter are not "computing platforms".
Look at my factorization computing platform running on my NONGnu/Linux.
Would it be possible to write programs on android in theory if you ported a compiler? I assume it has some form of posix compliance.
termux has a C compiler. I compile my OCaml compiler on Android.
Does it support decent multithreading? I'd assume programming on current mobile processors would be useless without it because of moar cores.
No, OCaml is mono core only. But I think that the C compiler support multicore.
Well, looking at termux's abilities it looks pretty cool, now if only companies other than samsung would start making desktop interfaces, I could see android being used to do some light development or tinkering. Either that or just dicking around for fun.
I don't get it. What are you looking for?
I'm not really looking for anything, the concept of phones being used as unified devices moving forward is just intriguing, even if they wouldn't be more powerful than just using a laptop.
The problem is that with the phone we're 30 years back. There is no free OS on phones.
What about sailfish OS or using AOSP with F-droid? You can also have a chroot install of a linux OS even though that won't stop google from spying on you on the host OS.
I am not interested. I think I will buy a replicant compatible mobile and hack with it.
Why even use a smartphone at that point, the note 2 is the most recent supported phone.
I just want a phone. And I try to always use free OS.
