Who's planning to move to Skylake-X/X299?
Who's planning to move to Skylake-X/X299?
What do you expect from Skylake-X?
I'll tell you straight outta the gate.
I hope you're not expecting:
-IPC
-Overclocking
For Skylake-X
>MEGA-TASKING
Intel HEDT is a joke now.
It's gonna be something when those 16 core Zen's at 3.6GHz drop.
It'll make even that 24 core Broadwell at 2012 Atom clocks look retarded.
I'm still on Ivy Bridge.
Give me 1 (ONE) reason to upgrade my CPU if my current one is sufficient for everything I do, including gayming.
There's never a reason to upgrade if your current hardware does what you need. Hell, plenty of people around here are still using Core 2 Quads.
I'm planning on seeing how it turns out, but I'm sure as shit not making any definitive plans about a platform and CPUs I know nothing about.
>16 core Zen's at 3.6GHz
You don't actually believe this do you? The 1800X runs at 3.6Ghz out of the box and it's half as many cores.
What makes you this way, user?
Because it's already known these chips will be either 160-185W TDP? As a single socket workstation solution?
The jewing is too much for me atm. The rest of this year is going to be biblical.
Kinda waiting. I want 8+ cores, 10+ if possible but at now I don't want ryzen with too limited pcie lane count.
If Skylake doest that below 700$ I'm considering
Fuck no. I only get off my 2600K when I fall in love, or fall dead.
This, they're also B2 revision, so higher clocks for the same TDP.
B0 > B1(current Ryzen chips) AMD managed to squeeze 200MHz at 95W
They should go for 205W, since Skylake-EP's there.
Problem with ryzen is that with current boards pcie lanes will not get up.
Those 16 core chips aren't using AM4 but SP4, and lanes have nothing to do with the motherboard, they're all on the chip itself (which should be 64 lanes max for the 16 core but will likely be 48)
Zen HEDT CPU's are called Threadripper(good job marketing..)
Each CPU will include 64 PCI-E Lanes!
It includes 4 CCX's.
Lower SKU(Probably 12/24) 140W TDP, Higher SKU (Probably 16/32) 180W TDP.
Socket will be an SP3 LGA
Platform's name will probably be X399
Chips will be B2 revisions.
32MB L3 Cache
ES's are 3,3 or 3,4 Ghz base and 3,7 Ghz Boost
It is aimed for Retail SKU to have 3,6 Base/4 Ghz Boost
ES's that are in the wild have 2500 CB R15.
Infinity Fabric can have a bandwidth up to 100GB/s
What do you need 8+ cores for, senpai desu familia?
>IF speeds up
>high TDP so higher 3-4 core turbo/XFR (all 4 cores at 4.1GHz!?)
>access to fast 24MB of L3 instead of 12MB
Whoa, this thing will be legit faster than the 1800X in gaming even when only using 8-6 cores.
nope.
You forgot the quad channel memory.
But whoever buys this for gaming is a fucking idiot, unless they're gaming and running something big in the background.
There were idiots that bought dual xeons and 6950X for gaming, surely there'll be enough idiots buying the much cheaper 12-16 core Zen's for gaming.
If the 8 core is under $600 I'd consider it but what are the odds
HEDT platforms last very long. Just make sure you upgrade your RAM now when you are still on DDR3, it will be more expensive in the future.
I'm on a 5820K and don't see a reason why I should upgrade to anything. I might get a 5960X if I can aquire one around 400 €, but I don't really need these threads. A Ryzen 1700 would be a bit faster in converting, but thats pointless when you save ten minutes when you still need 1.5 days to upload the converted 4K video.
There is no game yet that fully utilizes my 5820K. BF1 uses up to 50 % (2160p60), anything else uses 15-25 %.
>180W TDP
These processors will be also insanely expensive. But its good for the competition. Everyone will be using 5820K performance on a mainstream platform soon.
These things might be monsters for streaming.
The 6950X is OK for gaming, you can OC it, but you really need to be rich to afford one. I would rather spent 2000 € into graphics cards instead of buying a 6950, you are usually always GPU limited in games.
I have a 5960X.
My next CPU will probably be second generation Ryzen.
>sitting comfy on an i3 6100 overclocked to 4.6
>gonna buy a cheap locked oem i5 or i7 when the ebay prices drop
>mfw I'm paying 50% as much for 90% of the performance of K-series cucks
