Why don't iThings support rest-to-unlock on their fingerprint sensors? On my Android, I just have to touch it and the device wakes up and unlocks with one motion. With iOS, even with "rest to unlock" enabled in accessibility, there's still an extra stage (either "press home to wake and keep finger rested without depressing again for ~1s to unlock" or "press power to wake then rest finger to unlock").
Why is this? Is it a deliberate design decision or a technical limitation? Are always-on sensors more power hungry?

s8 I hate samson solely for their touchjizz, but this year it seems that they have killed it, that is competition all together. the s8 is one sexy beast. I got the g6 about a week ago and I really like it. Upgraded from a 4+yr old Note II.
The most noticeable difference to me having been with Samsung for a while is the bloat isn't so deeply integrated. Even without root, I can turn off the few things more easily and force the third party app on top of it without worrying about it being buggy.
I almost haven't turned my phone off since I got it, stress testing it and tweaking and feel like it is overall the better choice for me because of two big things. The screen DOESN'T have edge curve, which is better for video viewing no matter how hard Samsung tries to push the 'infinity edge'. Trust me, you want some edge to hold on to the damn phone itself. Second, the software is more lightweight, and the back-to-basics approach seems to have worked out well for LG this time.

I have an s4 and the battery has ended its life long ago. The phone basically dies at around 95-100% within a minute of use. Too lazy to just buy a new battery, and I've been due for an upgrade.

From experience, the z1c had great output, though a bit quiet at line out and my original galaxy s had nice output with a wolfson dac. Either one should be fine really unless you get a SD S7 which may have a worse dac, might want to see what the autists on head-fi think about the phones.

Your friend probably never scrubs his apps or tries to clean up the bloatware. The s8 probably will lag with all of the bloatware from Samsung but one sweep of package disabler and it's smooth sailing for me. I'd recommend the s8 over anything out now or the xz

I had the Z5 premium. Shit was dope. 4k itself was a fucking pleasure to use and the resolution is so high that it's like looking at a mirror of reality. The thing sucked though because of the 810 snapdragon house fire chipset and as a result battery wasnt too good.
Also you haven't lived until youve experienced a native 4k video in VR
Though if I get the s8 the screen will be a lot worse resolution wise due to the qhd+ AMOLED display

Samsung is the most established possibility as she never had any other brand before. the only other option she has on a plan is the huewei mate 9s or the oppo R9s and to be fair, Chinese phones on a 60 dollar plan or 400-600 aud outright doesn't seem to be worth it (the one plus three/four might be but I doubt that's a phone she's really looking for)

Posting on it now, I'm extremely happy with it. I sold my Pixel XL because the battery life was shit. The screen quality, loudspeaker volume, audio quality, build, and interface speed and stability (AOSPExtended rom) are all excellent, and it has a card slot. The only thing I miss from the Pixel is its camera.
