You make it sound like people need to opt in to use fuchsia. Google are probably going to make OEMs only install fuchsia on their phones (whenever it's ready), and after a couple of years it will have a significant share of the market.

RIM literally died this way.
First they abandoned the programmers and the enterprise users for a completely new SW and HW platform. Then when the boat was sinking they tried the cross-platform bullshit.
Finally the new OS was a failure and they switched to Android, but it was too late.

Even then, we've long passed the initial smartphone rush. Everyone has a smartphone now. How many people are gonna rush out and buy the new shitty Google phone with no fucking apps? Dart will replace Java, literally apps would have to be written in Dart and they'd be available and I'm assuming Google starting this shit, they'd take measures in porting over the Android Apps from the Store into Dart-based apps, instead of Java.
