Today, I really don't know. The webcams that come with laptops are usually 1MP and pure garbage. It's been like this for years, just like 1366x768 TN panels are still the "standard" for laptops. It's laughable, a $99 smartphone can have a 13MP camera and a IPS screen but that's too much of a cut in the profit margin for the few big laptop brands.

Todays webcams are so bad you might as well put a sticker over it. If laptops ever catch up to smartphones or the Chinese brands that started up as cheap phone manufacturers and now make laptops become popular and we get QHD IPS panels and 13MP cameras on laptops then it would be worth using them for something.

Why would you need a 13MP camera on a laptop? It's just used for video chat for fuck's sake, or are you gonna go around shooting sunsets and landscapes with your laptop? Such a camera would only be useful if you turn out to be a camwhore

I honestly don't understand why laptop OEMs still use 1366x768 panels in anything but their lowest tier budget lines. 1080p should be standard, and QHD should be available on mid-high end and above. It's not like even integrated graphics can't push that resolution anymore.
