First for overclocked T430.

Second for impossible project
This piece of shit is not working. How long does take to boot in Win95?

is it on fire yet?

A minute at mosts on a desktop PC with an early DMA mode HDD.

Right, then this computer has some problems and to make it worse, the I/O is garbage without a dock.
I mean there is not a single thing I can do with a floppy is there?

No, only breaks 90 C running benchmarks for a while.

Will test some more serious video rendering tonight.

10 seconds if you install on an SSD

I have a T450s
Can i swap the keyboard for the old-style keyboard?

X220 comfiest user here.

Nope, only the T430 can do that.

thanks

you mean x230, t430, t430s, w530 and t530, idiot.

Sure, that's what I meant you flaming autist.

>tfw you suddenly realize your hp 2570p, unlike lelnopevovo(R) shitpads(tm), supports full eGPU hotplugging
Fuck yeah. No more restarting the system to disconnect eGPU. No more putting laptop into sleep to connect it. Full hotplug, just like TB3 eGPUs.
>thinkfags on suicide watch

look who's back

>shitpad x230
to properly connect eGPU with 16GiB RAM you have to:
>Shutdown the system
>Plug in the power supply to laptop
>Plug in the eGPU with no hdmi/dvi cable connected
>during boot, halt system startup with f8
>plugin the hdmi port
>continue startup

>2570p
to properly connect eGPU with 16GiB RAM you have to:
>plug it in anytime you want

Get shrekt, lenovo drone.

Why is my dissipator is bent?

>Get shrekt, lenovo drone.
>conveniently doesn't address the heating issue

Because there is no heating issue, unless you're a retard who uses 6 years old, dry thermal compound.

forums.lenovo.com/t5/ThinkPad-X-Series-Laptops/CPU-overheating-x230/td-p/990561
Oh look, isn't that the x230 overheating issue?
Just look at all these related posts on lelnovo forums. x230 is literally a battery-powered mobile housefire!

Is the drive running in PIO mode? That's a typical issue with older computers, where the default PIO mode is used instead of DMA in windows. Enable it in the driver for your IDE device.

Holy shit user with the palmrest/bottom panel crack here: There's an SSD in the side slot(I don't know what it's called) that seems to be sello taped in so hard that I can't pull it out. This is going back.

>he's still comparing quad core computers with smaller dual core ones

?? Post images. that sounds like an easy fix.

Okay, thanks for the heads up.

But 2570p does not have similar keyboard to X220. That often kills it for but otherwise 2570p is pretty fucking tempting machine to geet

It just doesn't budge. Want a pic of the crack?

The pull tab is stuck to the drive?

What does those red rails smell like?

That looks like the pull tab, but it could also be black tape cause it's definitely not supposed to look stuck on like that

I found out it's tape turned into a makeshift pull tab. Got the 160 GB SSD out eventually(just wanted to make sure it was there). Along with that I also have this crack. Along with that one of the screen lid sides is slightly loose(will need to be replaced in the future) as is the drive cover(very slightly bent) and the battery(very slight).
They're offering a partial refund or a full refund(they'll pay for the return). I'm not sure which to take. What do you guys think, all things considered? (I know I asked earlier but I've provided a little more information since then.

Yeah, with those issues that is a bit of a pain. I'd lookup the price of all the parts, add them up, then add at least $10 or 10% (whichever is greater), and then ask them for that amount if you're willing to actually do the labor and fix it, or just keep the cash since it's cosmetic. If they decline, return the item and at that point I'd leave a neutral or even negative review, because it sounds like the item was horribly misrepresented. That's real fucking annoying.

I got a full refund on mine that I bought from ebay. It got damaged by GSP failure to repackage the laptop properly after inspection. Didn't have to send it back as the refund came from ebay, and it seems like the seller got to keep the money too.

Importing from US is the cheapest option, and my country has exactly 1000 euro feeless import limit.
So, I want to turn 1550 buxs into

I wouldn't mind but the model they advertised in the pictures wasn't the model I got, and I emailed and asked the seller if there were any cracks on the machine and he said no. I don't think it got damaged in transit. i paid 200 euro for this.

Yeah sounds like you got scammed by seller negligence. Tell eBay or tell that prick to refund at least half your money (if that covers your parts).

dude I'd return it even if you had to pay return postage, not being the item in the listing and having cracks after them telling you it didn't is grounds for a chargeback in most countries and them offering to refund/partial refund as well as offering to pay return postage is them not wanting to get fucked over by the website you bought it from for mislabelling items

there's plenty of good condition thinkpads out there, don't settle for one that has been dropped causing visible damage in the corner, you don't know what other internal damage it has done and those problems might not immediately present themselves (i.e., weakened solder joints from the impact)

>my country has exactly 1000 euro feeless import limit.
Which country is this? My limit is closer to 30-40 euro.

Here in Europe the pickings are actually a lot tighter, unless you wanna pay a fuck tonne in shipping and taxes from the US. I'm not really sure what to do at this point; the X220 seems perfect but I can't seem to get my hands on one.

What are expected themperatures on T420, maybe this will apply to some of X series as well, Sandy bridge

Is 50c when watching high res video, browsing, and text editing ok?

Russia, m8. It's going to be 22 euro next year, just tightly screwing the nuts.

I'm from the uk so I understand the issue but if you don't mind waiting a while you'll get a decent offer eventually

m8 would you agree it's better to just get a machine with a good CPU and casing, under the pretense that you can upgrade the ram and ssd later?

They don't usually let coupons stack
There is a coupon on the UK store, but I'm not sure if it's a student only coupon and what percent it knocks off.
SPRINGSAVER

You don't even need a good CPU unless it's soldered on. I literally buy the absolute cheapest I can find no matter how bad the condition as long as the price is low, and then order all the parts immediately and assemble it myself.

>he is still retarded and shitposts
kill yourself

tell eBay that they said that there were no cracks and hopefully you'll get a full refund

>Want a pic of the crack?
ew no

I have an x220

Apparently I'm not covered on that scheme because I didn't use paypal. I learned my lesson I guess.

aw shit man

Whats the worse thing that could happen if i fuck up a libreboot installation? or a coreboot installation?

your computer draws too much power and all of the fuses in your house and laptop fail, heating up your house wiring, burning your house down

but it's unlikely to happen

not the flaming autist, but that's a horrible lie and you obviously did not mean that you flaming autistic cunt

He asked about the T4xx series, so I responded in the context of the T4xx series. So yeah, you are also a flaming autist.

a brick

kek

has anyone ever replaced a panel in a modern thinkpad? thinking about buying a used t460s and putting the qhd panel in it.

is izpz or hard?

Not any different than before.

you are a fucking retard man.
why didd't you use paypal. You could have had a full refund and kept the laptop.

What condition of used Thinkpad is generally acceptable? No defects? Cosmetic only? Worn out keys and touchpad?

AS IS, FOR PARTS, NOT WORKING

if im a total newbfag, what are my chances of fucking either of these installations up?

are you dumb?

Just got some dumped on me. A T410, T42, and R38. Ready to start some housefires.

Coming from someone whose only previous ThinkPad is a T42.

any chances we'll get a 2017 x1 carbon with a >1080p screen?

Anyone have a t460p/470p? Is one tiny fan enough to cool a quad core chip?

Would a t60(p) be usable in 2017 for web browsing, video (720p) viewing, and word processing, for around 50-60 bucks? Coming from a Pentium M. Will put SSD in it.

Shit, not R38. An R32.

yes

Yep. Don't expect miracles, but it'll do what you asked.

>he actually wrote the date in two formats to account for the mentally impaired who would only ever comprehend just one of them

I'm currently using T420 for remote work and the little fucker is rocking it.

I've been using Window 7 again for the first time after years of using Linux only and I don't mind it but I would like to have a Linux distro along.

I'm wondering if there is any user here that is using Linux with T420 and can recommend me a distro (I was thinking about OpenSuSe/Fedora) as I need mini docking station to fully work. (audio/mic/camera for huddle and in VDI) with it.

dont forget to stress the cpu AND gpu (yes igpus produce a decent amount of heat too)
doesn't mean shit if the cpu cant stay at high clocks when your gpu is under any load at all and it's throttling
9mm drive in an x220/30?
you have to take it out from under the keyboard.
you can't get it out from the top

sure
what matters is load temps not dicking around temps
you wont kill your cpu at idle unless you have no thermal paste at all (or no heatsink)
as long as it's low quality 720p yeah
just know that for like $20 more you can get a t400 or t410 which will EASILY do that

>you walk into your room and realize someone swapped your shitpad with fully featured gayming 2570p
What do you do?

>gaming
>laptop

>eGPU
>with other purpose than gayming

really want to try something new. looking at the t470p or dell m5520. seems like m5520 has more promise on the display quality and thunderbolt 3, but i do really like thinkpads...

How does worn/old thermal compound look like? Grey-colored? I just replaced it on my T530 and I'm yet to test it to see if temperatures improved.

X220 with i5 2520M, 8GB RAM, 128GB SSD with original charger and battery (3.5 hours). It runs W10 and has a legit Office 2016 version.
>€180

Is this a good deal?

>nigger stole my 1600x1200 IPS T601F and replaced it with some 1366x768 TN trashbook
He's fucking dead.

>using 10 years old hardware
kys

>using 1366x768 TN
it's 2017 user

you mean 2560x1080, right?
you don't need more than 1366x768 in mobile use of 12,5" screen, unless you're homeless or you travel a lot

>buying a mobile computer that is completely useless without an external monitor
nice

and you'll talk about older hardware needing to be plugged in more but a power cord is a hell of a lot more portable than a fucking desktop monitor

>unless you're homeless

>completely useless without an external monitor
woah dude, this is like... your opinion
you know what happens to your opinions on this place, right?
1366x768 is perfect for 12,5" screens. Most people buy laptops with this resolution for a reason.
if you're homeless then you're forced to use your mobile screen. Normal people dock their laptops to external screens at home

>Most people buy laptops with this resolution for a reason.
Because it's the shit the Best Buy employee tells them to buy and they don't know any better? Come the fuck on. 1366x768 is an abomination. The fucking T420 plebs have a better screen than your macbook knockoff.

almost the exact same as brand new compound
it doesn't really change colors it just dries out
seems fine for bong bucks

Wtf I love hp now
No really I'm pretty redpilled about the 2570p

>not using 1400*1050
>2002+15
user I...

when I get my T420 i'm gonna install Parabola. It's one of the GNU/linux OS's that Stallman reccomends.

X200 tablet > X220 tablet

>Normal people dock their laptops to external screens at home
tell me more about what they do, since you're observing them up close

>it's ours. these aren't products that emulate what other people do, they don't look like products from another company
meanwhile the T440 looks like a macbook dyed black

>not getting X60 + Libreboot + Trisquel GNU+Linux for the Ultimate Stallman Computing Experience™

Would anyone pay to have someone install coreboot or libreboot bios? I'm thinking of charging $100. You send your laptop to me, without hdd, ram, battery if you want, and i send it back with a new bios

>$100 bucks + shipping + shipping again
>literally more than my thinkpad cost in the first place
u hvn a giggle m8

who gives a shit about your laptop? buying a corebooted laptop is expensive, and that's the important variable. doing it yourself is an effort

You asked whether people would pay for it, and I'm saying that at $100 it seems far too expensive. I could just try to do it myself and, if I fuck up, just throw the laptop in the trash and buy a new one.

Or perhaps I don't fuck up and I'm not out >$100. I don't think you're gonna have many buyers.
