LET US DISCUSS.
Now on a more serious business, I am sad, the Chinese man who usually sells me calligraphy materials left for two months. I have no means to buy paper and ink needed to practice calligraphy.
Is calligraphy considered an obscure hobby among the Japanese? None of the Japanese I have met online or in person seem to like it.
>even this would get a bf in germany Please make us die out already.
Landon Rogers
Visiting Japan costs a lot. About 4,000 dollars just to be there a few days or so.
Maybe I should save money in order to visit someday.

I think calligraphy is one of the most common accomplishment of Japanese children. 4 million people seems to be doing calligraphy in Japan. udoyoshi.com/archives/1847
"Barakamon" is an anime about calligrapher. It was interesting. Please watch if you have opportunity.
>Is calligraphy considered an obscure hobby among the Japanese?
we think calligraphy is one of art. it is like that westerner draw a picture. if you can write beautiful character,we feel you are a well‐educated person. foreigner often says kannji is very difficult, but in calligraphy, most difficult character is hiragana.
Ryder Bennett
>Barakamon Wow, it seems very nice. I will watch it. But most people just seem to practice it during childhood and then never practice it ever again... that's what I mean for the most part.
Jace Harris
Calligraphy is kinda high art in Japan (but it's still popular leisure). Probably you have only talked with poor-educated anime fan fags on the internet.
Julian Thompson
Uhh nope. Ironically, I speak with very few Japanese anime fans. Even more, I rarely speak about anime with the Japanese. I tend to ask questions about daily life in Japan or the Japanese high culture. I ask about the Japanese legends, the Japanese traditional music, Japanese authors or the like.
Christopher Collins
Maybe many japanese feel that calligraphy is difficult art like asceticism because we learn it at elementary school. People don't want to do "study" as a hobby..
Xavier Anderson
haha estaba a punto de postear ese video de la rosa de G. sobre los otakus, pero mejor no
>ugly pigs are cute. They are really solid feeling though. If you compare a dog to a cat, how cats feel very atherial and lithe compared to a dog, so to does a dog feel in comparison to a pig.
They get less cute as they grow up though, as they become fatter and denser. I guess you can't really blame them too much for that though, since they've kinda been bred to be that way.
Adam Walker
There are special house pig races that weren't bred to be eaten.

I got accepted to do a PhD at Sophia University (it'll be in English). I've been to Tokyo before for work, I've lived in Japan before (am living in Hong Kong now), but somehow never warmed up to the city.
I got the alternative to go to Korea, Ajou, and do a PhD in a business field...long story short: go to Tokyo, because it looks better on the CV even though I never liked the city much. Or go to Korea, even though it's inferior to Japan, and do the major that I like better.
My Japanese is basic, my Korean...well, I learned Hangul for fun. Help my German self out, friends, and give me your opinions, even though this is not the advise board!
