This thread is about the appreciation of horology, as well as the micro-engineering and materials engineering that are required to make a fine watch, clock, or other timepiece.
>mfw the watches I want are absolutely going to get sniped from me at the last minute
Pls no.
Daniel Ortiz
You will get used to it
Liam Williams
Start sniping, then. Its not unfair if everyone does it
Carson Wilson
Reminder that replacing an hour marker with a date window is fucking retarded.
Especially in a dive watch.
There's plenty of room in between those markers god fucking damn it.
Ryan Smith
PERLON >>> NATO
NATO STRAPS ARE SHIT
Jordan Rodriguez
why
Evan Rivera
Happens all the time. One ended up on r/watches.
What's worst is it's always some autist with no self control who overpays at the last second. This is why I usually go for the "for parts or restore" watches since it doesn't fit with the "I want and I want it NOW" mentality. Usually it's a pallet fork here, a cleaning there, or replace the hour wheel and they're good to go.
Juan Torres
Know that feel. The fucking snipers pay a fucking shit ton of money for crappy listings, and some use ultra high speed techniques so you can't really compete with them if you're using a regular connection and ordinary snipers
Wyatt King
>he goes for the 'for parts or restore' section on Ebay And what does your watches son think about that?
Chase Hall
Incorrect
Benjamin Martin
This is stupid, isn't it?
Jaxson Powell
It's another quick way of seeing which way up the watch is in the dark. If the lume gap is on the right the it's the right way up.
Adam Fisher
That retarded band? Yes.
Oliver Peterson
That's not a nato, it's a 1 piece nylon strap.
Michael Cook
Hell no. That's what the 12 o'clock marker is for.
Parker Martinez
Actually no, if it's properly reinforced.
Austin Thompson
>That retarded band? ye
John Mitchell
>One ended up on r/watches. Kek, mind posting it here? Fucking euphoric TGV fan redditors crack me up everytime
Anthony Powell
I think this is the strap. There's actually a band running underneath the watch.
Nathan Rivera
Rate mine guys
Wyatt Diaz
Noice piece of tech m8. Hows it holding up?
Liam Bell
Don't have the link, but it was a 70's Seiko 7019 5Actus. It wasn't me who found it even, it was some other user after I sperged out about it here.
Blake Sanchez
Yes. Those tiny lug abortions look dumb with a strap.
Charles Sanders
Wrong
Tyler Rogers
You can actually remove those, see pic.
The strap attaches directly to the tiny lugs of the watch head by means of short spring bars.
Not sure how the watch head looks irl without those fake screw-on lugs.
John Hughes
Great, no issues so far, though I've had it for a year. A cool feature is that it automatically adjusts the time when daylight savings begin and also changes the date depending on the month, so you never have to adjust it. Since it's also solar powered making it a really low maintenance watch.
Isaac Cook
It is yeah, that's why I said it's ANOTHER quick way.
David Torres
What does the Bluetooth do?
Gabriel Gonzalez
It blues teeth dumbass!
Brayden Clark
You connect it to your phone so it syncs the time, casio has an app out for that. It also has some really novelty functions, for example if you have it paired to your phone and the phone has bluetooth on you can make it ring, making finding your phone easy if you happen to have left bluetooth on, which is never.
Dylan Kelly
Daily reminder that mechanical watches are just jewelry for trannies. These watches can't keep proper time, have abysmal power reserve and might break if you clap too hard. And don't forget the necessary 'servicing' to keep them fuckers spinning.
Bentley Moore
It's worth it.
Ian Smith
It shows that you took the pledge as a male to fight for equality for women and take a stand against misogyny.
Brody Cox

Ian Robinson
>that pic
Kayden Allen
Using a dumbass nigger bidding system like that. My country's "ebay" always ads 5 minutes after the last bid so to prevent REAL snipes.
Jace Gonzalez
>dat pic >"n-now will they let me fuck them?"
James Brown
If you don't have anything better to do than jerk off your tranny dick to watches of suck off dogs like the furfag, then sure mechshits might be worth it.
inb4 >posting on 4chins >having a life >pick only one
Doesn't specifically address 'history' but this meme of "it has some vaguely masculine sounding word within it therefore patriarchy or something" is cringeworthy as hell.
Jace Walker
>anglo problems I can't feel but smug that my language doesn't have gendered pronouns or anything so feminists can't get a foothold without anything to complain about.
Liam Mitchell
Don't fuckin' jinx it m8, the feminists' (the thinly veiled post modernist/marxist types) entire M.O. is finding something to complain about being victims of.
Here's a 10Hz Breguet in the meanwhile.
Lincoln Wilson
Think I could fix it up?
Parker Cox
That requires to actually have influential males susceptible to guilt-tripping, since feminists have no power in their own. That is lacking here, in fact some politicians have accidentally slipped some comments out time to time towards female politicians that indicated that they're actual, REAL misogynists. There were shitstorms by womens groups, but everybody just said "lol go fuck you're selves" and the men remained in position, without an apology even.
Lol, even the guy who beat his wife black and blue so bad it became a court case got off. He literally used the "lol she fell I guess" defense, kek.
William Murphy
(You)
Nicholas Wright
A lot of the times the watches look better irl than in the pics, but this might not be the case. A light polish might work on the case though, if it doesn't have some fancy Seiko finish.
You'll probably be in trouble with the crystal though, a NOS crystal might be expensive or extinct.
Landon Wood
How watchmakers actually replace crystals on non-round/square watches when there are no original parts available? Can they easily cut a new one?
Brandon Gutierrez
That's a nice rep.
Matthew Wood
>Lol, even the guy who beat his wife black and blue so bad it became a court case got off. He literally used the "lol she fell I guess" defense, kek.
A little too far in the other direction for my taste, but fuck me if that isn't funny.
Ryder Harris
What's a rep?
Gabriel Moore
Doing this every fucking time is just as bad as shitposting. You aren't contributing to any discussion at all and you're giving the shitposter exactly what he wants.
Logan Torres
Is this too big for me?
Carter Gonzalez
Yes.
Anthony Baker
Yes. Definitely.
The lugs stick out beyond your wrist.
Hunter Rogers
do you guys ever consciously acknowledge that nobody cares about your watch? not trying to hate on watches in general, but it's true that even intelligent normies don't really pay any attention to watches. the differences between a $500 "shitter" and a $2500 watch are pretty much irrelevant to 99.99% of people. so many people here buy mid-tier watches for 'prestige' but they're just not worth it given that legitimately nobody cares.
just a thought, idk
Luke Reed
There are rectangular generic replacements available, the only problem being there are three parameters now instead of two (width+thickness for round vs. width+height+thickness), but what we do when there's a special shape is send it off to a guy who normally works on optical lenses. We literally use lenses originally for glasses for crystals like domed rectangular.
Brody Harris
reproduction / fake
Easton Cook
What makes you think that's a reproduction?
Michael Bailey
Every "normie" recognises a Rollie for example. Also, in my workplace and my field in general, there are many normies who are interested in watches. Their age varies from 20 to 60.
Luis Bailey
Good luck finding a replacement crystal, a rectangular bevelled crystal with the corners cut off like a BSG book is very specific.
Ethan Baker
>Every "normie" recognises a Rollie for example. Yeah but that's it. You can cop one of those and a few meme watches and you're pretty much done. There's no practical room for muh soul muh character because 98% of you guys just use that as an excuse to be brand whores (only amongst watch austists, though) and to rationalize the purchase of false status symbols. It all just seems so contrived.
Blake Brooks
If the lugs extend beyond the edge of your wrist, it's too big.
Mason Stewart
yes unfortunately just a smidge if it were 3mm shorter on either side it'd be the large end of ok but it's too large as is
Hudson Sanchez
>genuinely believe a Swiss watch will make me feel better about myself than a nice Seiko
Am I snob?
Brody Taylor
That strap not wide enough for that watch.
Joshua Anderson
We're simply maintaining our Pateks for the next generation, user.
Levi Martinez
>Am I snob? no, you're a moron see also
Parker Sanchez
Not really, unless you have a Grand Seiko or something.
Bentley Brooks
Yeah nobody cares about them and i'm totally fine with it.
Josiah Nelson
That sounds pretty stupid
Ryan Butler
>has never heard of the bond strap meme Newfag detected
Julian Johnson
I don't care if anyone notices, most people are shit in the general sense anyway. If I like the watch and appreciate it's horological value that's all that matters.
Ryder Torres
Wristlet not even once.
Jacob Clark
I've heard if it plenty. It's still too fucking small.
Anthony Edwards
I haven't worn a watch in like 20 years or something like that. I like the idea of those self-winding mechanical watches.
Are those $100-ish mechanical watches they sell on chink express any good or are they just garbage?
> pic related, my watch is probably bigger than your watch
Justin Bailey
Mechfags BTFO.
All you need is an eco-drive. >Zero maintenance >Accurate >Runs forever
You can get some decent japanese watches for $100, don't go chink. Seiko 5 is a range of mechanical watches that has many different styles, all of them are automatic, and have a display caseback which is neat.
Carter Gonzalez
This will go for at least £50
Jaxson Rivera
that's doable actually, i'll allow it
David Kelly
I agree You have to replace the rechargeable battery and the gaskets. It's no different than servicing a mechanical to an end-user.
Ryan Thomas
Are Orient watches any good? Thinking about getting the Orient Trooper. I really want that display window at the back and the Sapphire Crystal.
Evan Roberts
Check out Vostok Amphibias on eBay, it will change your life.
Ian Reyes
Yes they are.
Daniel Green
MODERN NATO STRAPS ARE FAT AND MAKE YOUR WATCHES TOO THICK ON YOUR WRIST
PROTIP: MODERN NATO STRAPS ARE 4 TIMES THICKER THAN THAT
Benjamin Scott
Why are you shouting?
Dylan Miller
>PROTIP: MODERN NATO STRAPS ARE 4 TIMES THICKER THAN THAT
Not if you buy one for $3 from a street peddler like I did. This is no thicker than any t shirt I own. It's fucking nothing.
Jacob Turner
>tfw got sniped just now
it was just a seiko 5 but still sucks
Leo Barnes
Why bother? You can get LM Specials in much better condition for cheap.
Juan James
>Things I don't understand anything about are just trying so contrived! Why would people pretend to like things I don't like?
Zachary Barnes
No. Just ignorant. Like most plebs, you don't actually know anything about Seiko's history and horological credibility.
Angel Harris
>point out specific deficiency >y-you just don't understand! >muh vaguery, muh ad-hoc nonsense k bud
Brody Lewis
>Seiko's history and horological credibility I actually do know a lot about that.
Jack Baker
You already admitted you know virtually nothing about watches, now you've just admitted that you are just shitposting.
Here's your (You).
Parker Nguyen
Then how can you justify believing Swiss watches (sub Rolex) are better than Seiko? All of the sub-Rolex Swiss brands are overpriced shit.
Mason Howard
Where is the eden? Is it Russia?
Robert Hernandez
Hungary. Best of both worlds really. No libs and shitskins, but also no slavs and assassinations. Too bad the economy is all shit, wages are shit, the Forint is worthless and everyone is an illiterate turbopleb. But other than that it's pretty nice. You wouldn't fit in though, our mentality is still more Warsaw-Pact than Western-European.
Brandon Ross
I was thinking specifically about a tudor pelagos with in-house movement.
For some reason I can't get myself to believe a Seiko can ever be classy. Even though I'm actually a big fan.
Ayden Thomas
Well, an in-house Pleagos is a great watch and I'd certainly take one over an MM300, but I'm not sure that classy is how I would describe it.
But I certainly would describe several GS models as classy.
