It lets me keep up with my friends from high school / college. Facebook was the cool new thing when I graduated high school in 2006. I don't use twitter, instagram, snapchat, or whatever else the kids are using these days but facebook is useful in keeping in touch with some of my friends that I rarely see.

From a technical standpoint, it's the only social platform that isn't total ass and makes an effort to improve regularly. e.g., it's the only social platform I know of that has granular interpersonal privacy settings on posts based on location, network, or done arbitrarily so you can share a post or picture with certain sub-groups of friends without dealing with your grandmother seeing it. Being able to have a regular profile and a "page" lets you separate your personal stuff from a business or formal persona.

Of course, none of the people I actually talk to on a regular basis use Facebook so I end up never using it.
