I don't think so. I don't think I can teach Math or Physics at a university-level without fluent Japanese. I can barely ask to go to the bathroom in Japanese. It would have to be at the highschool level. But I can, I suppose always teach English lel.

Biggest piece of advice I'd say is to do your reviews and study everyday with Anki because if you miss a day then it gets a little messed up.
Also I would highly recommend the reddit subreddit /r/LearnJapanese. It's even more helpful than this thread or the Sup Forums threads especially. Good luck! Once you get started and just continue going it gets way easier. The worst thing you can do is give up and take a break. 頑張って!

That's good, I would only use DJT for the resources they have in the OP. Otherwise everyone just argues about how to learn Japanese and they are like crabs trying to climb out of a bucket, they just drag everyone else down with them when they see others doing well.

Have at least an MS, or better yet a PhD, get to N1 level of fluency, and then go beyond that and learn physics vocabulary. You'd need to be accreduted to teach at a university, but you might be able to possibly get a job working in a research team if you have the language skills and a good resume. Once you are fluent (and possibly before then), look into what annual meetings physicists hold in Japan, and go to them to get an idea of what areas of research are hot, who works on what, and to try and network.
English-speaking expat groups can get you some friends quickly after you move over there, but the constant English use probably won't help much in driving you to really buckle down on learning Japanese.
