Is it true that the average american doesn't know what "demagogue" and "denominator" mean?

Is it true that the average american doesn't know what "demagogue" and "denominator" mean?
>American """"""education"""""""

YOU CANNOT MAKE THIS UP

These people run the world.

Let that sink for a moment.

First time hearing the word Demagogue, honestly.

don't expect Drumpf supporters to understand long words. they're scared of refugees ffs

American education is truly oddio actually
>start working since you're 16
>work is more important that know things
>learn just the things that you need for work
>at 25 you know everything about the job that you "choose" but can't tell where Vietnam is on a map

Yeah I would say I know PhD students in biology that do not know what the word demagogue means.

It's kind of esoteric and specific to politics. So people who are not inclined to read or study politics are less likely to know the definition.

However Americans suck at fractions and forget what is a denominator after 6th grade.

This article feels like satire.
>Andy Borowitz is a New York Times best-selling author and a comedian who has written for The New Yorker since 1998. In 2001, he created the Borowitz Report, a satirical news column that has millions of readers around the world, for which he won the first-ever National Press Club award for humor. The Borowitz Report was acquired by The New Yorker in 2012.
Yep, satire.

>A demigod

...

>run the world.
Why the hell do foreigners say this? All we do is work, fuck, play, just like everyone else.

>YOU CANNOT MAKE THIS UP
AND YET IT WAS MADE UP AND YOU FELL FOR IT

You suck at general knowledge and that's a fact. In other countries everyone knows what that means, from mr PhD to the post office guy

demagogue is a word that at the very latest you would hear in your sophomore year of high school

"demagogue" was brought up several times when talking about how the electoral college was intended to be above the fray of the people for the very reason of avoiding the election of a demagogue

the electoral college is controversial to some who feel that it defeats the will of the people

that was the absolute latest date you should have heard the word demagogue

you should also have been introduced to it repeatedly in the past year, as few can go a sentence without both "Trump" and "demagogue"

i will do my best to be less ass-blasted in the future, but i'm legitimately curious as to how you could have avoided this word in your adolescence or adult life

I'm a Drumpf supporter and I'm getting a PhD in biology. My step mom is a muslim, parents are legal immigrants with MDs from Syria (naturalized)

I support labor but the dems have been moving away from a labor platform and to one that highlights diversity and social justice.

Trump is the only candidate serious about trying to fix the manufacturing decline in America.

Whether it works or not and even though I do not agree with a lot of his platform I would rather give him 4 years than Hillary

>I used to like Bernie Sanders as a socalist but now he sold out to the Dems.

borowitz is fairly witty

I graduated HS a decade ago. I also don't watch the news. You might be shocked to know just how infrequently the topic of the electoral college comes up in daily life.

I actually learned what a demagogue is from watching lectures on ancient Rome. Specifically the Gracchi bros.

Do you even know your history?

>Honest question do they teach the fall of the ancient Roman Republic in Italy.
>I got some of that in 6th grade in a private school. But in public schools I doubt many touch on that subject.

going on (I don't want to sound like a SPQR-aboo) but I'm shocked how little people know about the workings of the Roman Republic because the organization of government was a framework for the American constitution

> veto for example

>Trump loves to use non-local labor in his construction (see You've Been Trumped and his use of Polish workers in the UK)
>Trump has his branded garbage made in China
>Trump will bring back American manufacturing because the world wants to pay more for commodities and shareholders will accept less profit.

Good luck with that.

And ? So what ?

Julius Caesar was a demagogue who aopealed to the lowest common denominator
So were Alexander the great and Adolf Hitler

What now huh
Fucking nerd

>liberal "comedian" writes pointless gag column about 'stupid Trump supporters'
>stupid liberal believes it to be authentic
>stupid liberal congratulates himself for being smarter than 'stupid Trump supporters'
>stupid liberals circlejerk themselves for being so smart, confident Trump supporters are too stupid to vote
>Trump wins election
>Who is stupid now?
>protip: the dems did this same routine in 2004, too.

>Do you even know your history?
of course i do, but it's not studying history that i learned this very basic terms

>i learned this very basic terms
I suppose it would see constant use in Shitaly.

Yeah i'm sure that Trump is the first demagogue in the glorious history of USA

>"Trump bad man. Real bad man."

I admit I had to look it up, blame my rural southern education for not teaching above a basic level.

Boom! Roasted.

Well, to be fair it IS pretty realistic.

>realistic
According to whom? Other liberal comedians?
Trump supporters aren't ALL complete idiots. They can't be. (I say this as someone who thinks a Trump administration would be a disaster.) But democrats/liberals/progressives just can't help seeing themselves as so much smarter than everybody else, and it comes back to bite them on the ass time and time again. If you underestimate the intelligence of your opponent and they win, doesn't that make you the dumb one?

Hawking is the comedian of the millennium.

You can't fabricate this.

>But democrats/liberals/progressives just can't help seeing themselves as so much smarter than everybody else,
Well, they DO tend to be more educated. But collectivist thinking aside...

...who said that they are all idiots? For that article to be true it would only take large amount of them to be such, not all.
And none of this was referring to Trump himself who is the actual opponent, not the people who like his memes (and let's be honest, how many of Trump supporters do you think support Trump conscious that most or all of what he says and does is nothing more than act?) who at this point is probably underestimated by nobody, or at least nobody important.

Hawking never said any of that, you moron.
Obviously you can because it's fake, moron.

'Murimad

>it's fake, moron.
Like the moon landing?

>more educated
I know phds that are complete dolts. (Ben Carson leaps to mind.) Everybody has their blind spots.
>...who said that they are all idiots?
OP implies, and the bulk of the thread seems to agree, that all Americans are stupid because strawman Americans in a work of fiction don't appear to know the meanings of two common words.
My argument is that taking it at face value because it's "pretty realistic" isn't doing anyone any good.

>My argument is that taking it at face value because it's "pretty realistic" isn't doing anyone any good.
Welcome to Sup Forums.

That article gotta be fake

>Welcome to Sup Forums.
Yeah, this place is ten gallons of shit in a five gallon bag.

Not that farfetched desu

>this thread is full of people calling Americans stupid
>because they themselves are too stupid to realize the article is satire written by an American
>because they themselves have never touched The New Yorker or any literary magazine in their life
I've got to admit, watching dozens of the people from around the planet put their smug ignorance on display like this is fairly irritating

Is this going to be Bush 3: Bigger and Dumber?

How's that GED working out for you?

God this country is fucked, completely and utterly fucked.

HOW DO YOU EVEN KNOW HOW TO USE A COMPUTER?

It is, Sup Forums made it for shits and giggles.

Why would the average person need to know where Vietnam is?

Hawking is an overrated clown who shouldn't be treated as anything but an idiot outside of his small sphere of knowledge. It's like thinking that Ben Carson is a brilliant economist because he's a doctor

If a fellow American can tell me what jingoistic, defenestration, or coprophagous mean (without googling them of course), I'll reply back with "good job".

Not American, but I'll try.

>jingoistic
Nationalist and militant about it.
>defenestration
Removal of holes/windows.
>coprophagous
Pertraining to eating bodies.

>coprophagous
I actually don't know this word, what does it even mean?

>Pertraining to eating bodie

Copro is the root-word for feces, not sure what the rest of the word entails though.

>>defenestration
>Removal of holes/windows.
It's murder by throwing someone out of a window.

Pretty much right on jingoistic, but wrong (although close) on the other two.
Defenestration is the act of casting or pushing someone out of a window.
Coprophagous is pertaining to eating dung or shit. A coprophagia would be something that does so.
Still, you got one right, so I say good job.
See above

It also describes the political act of removing a standing leader and appointing a new one in their place.

ie. D'annunzio was defenstrated via defenestration.

Goddam you are a fucking retard. Being an idiot and never having read a book in your entire life is not something to be proud of.

Jingoistic - blindly nationalistic
defenestration - thrown out a window (this one I don't expect everyone to know, but I remember reading about The Defenestration of Prague)
coprophagous - eating shit (copro = shit, phag = eat)

But it's ok not to know words. It really, really should not be ok to be proud of it.

>"this was an epic fail", Trump's campaign manager, Corey Lewandowski, said
Oh for fuck's sake
I dread to think that this buzzwordy cuckspam will probably enter normalfag vocabulary too at some point.

>SATIRE
Christ on a popcicle, you people are so ready to believe anything.

Yeah I know. It's one of my favorite word, like the other three. I think they sound nice (even if it's a little autistic to do so).
You misinterpreted my post. I know what all those words meant; it's just, I wanted to know if other Americans knew them also. Quite rude of you to insult me t.bh.

Your innate immune response responds fairly quickly, but not your adaptive response. That takes days.

The innate response is basically cells that just eat or otherwise kill anything that looks suspicious. It isn't particularly specific.

The adaptive response generally requires the pathogen to be brought from the site of infection to the spleen/lymph nodes, which takes time already, then the B cells, which make antibodies, take a while to get started (as do the T cells that help them out). You only have a small handful of T and B cells specific for whatever pathogen you have at the time, so it can take days for them to divide enough to have a useful number.

That slow adaptive response is why the first time you get sick with something it takes days to get over (the innate response isn't as strong/effective), but the next time you encounter the pathogen, you're already ready and don't even notice.

Your baby is only getting antibodies from you, your innate response does nothing for her at all.

In that regard, all that matters for passing on antibodies is that you encounter the pathogen, not that you're breastfeeding at the time that it happens. If you kiss or breastfeed her when she comes home from daycare you'll still come into contact with the germs she encountered there. If you spend time at her daycare playing with her or something, you'll also come into contact with them.

I know it's fucking satire, I checked the article.
Point is, you get journalists using phrases like "epic fail" and attributing them to people without anyone raising an eyebrow. It's pretty much common speech by now.

Defenestration comes from Latin "de" ("of" or in this case "out") and "fenestra" (window). We have "ponistra" here, which comes from Italian "finestra"

No one is underestimating anyone's intelligence since Trump fans don't have any. What's being underestimated is the sheer number of brainless mouthbreathers in the US

>No one is underestimating anyone's intelligence since Trump fans don't have any.
And there it is.

far-right
populist
demagogue
_______

what will be the next media meme word?

I know what demagogue means but I also know I should discredit their argument if they say it.

>coprophagous
nasty ass nigger

what does demagogue mean?

>sanders
FUCK THESE BANKERS
>not a demagogue
>clinton
FUCK THE REPUBLICANS AND BUSH
>not a demagogue
>trump
FUCK THE ILLEGALS AND MUSLIMS
>omg demagogue!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sup Forums doesn't understand socratic irony.
Or rather, it prefers to take it at face value.

...

Fucking mong.
If he's so smart why can't he walk or talk proper?

Well, what is a demagogue?

If it's anything other than a bullshit word than none of you cunts will have a problem telling us,no?

giving free shit, free citizenship, free stupid rights to people is the definition of demagogue, not want Trump proposes.
Euros are fucking deluded with their parlamentshit and >muh first world socialism is possible lolXD

Demagogue is where Jewish people go to pray, right?

>weebs supporting trump
No surprise there

"president trump"

The average person votes. That's why.

Not over anything relevant to Vietnam.

No, a synagogue is something that panders to the emotions and prejudices, you were right

You think that's bad?
>pic related

delete this

>mfw people unironically taking Hawking serious and even thinks he is theoretical physicist
TOP FUCKING LEL

>mfw triggered trumperinas ITT

It was an example, dude. If you're gonna have a say in who should be the most powerful man on Earth, you must at least have some basic knowledge about the geographical location of certain countries. That is literally the bare minimum.

Demagogue is just a smear word for a politician who advocates for what the public actually wants.

I had to google what demagogue means too. I only know what denominator means because Sup Forums keeps saying that game x is made for the lowest common denominator so I googled that word before.

What about it, OP?

Since there are so many Americans here, would it be polite not to use too troublesome expressions?
