>picked up a HP Deskjet 5L for $4 at a junkyard shop in 2002
>it printed all my coursework and dissertation with the same cartridge it came with

>can't bring myself to throw it away
This little guy is like part of the family.
Laser printers are always useful, their cartridges last for ages and don't go bad, they print quickly and clearly.
I never print more then 1-2 pages at once, so I wouldn't have a problem, most of my laser printers are old shits that still work great, no point in throwing them away because they still have hundreds of pages to print if needed.
A dead one.
What movie?
Office Space. Probably one of the best scenes out of any movie in all time.

If possible, a free 90's era HP laser
Otherwise whatever model Brother laser that does 2-sided. Generic toner is $12.
I use my printer maybe 4 times a month. Sometimes, It'll sit for an entire month.
Which means, an inkjet would always plug up on me.
So now I always buy big all in one color lasers. Go big or go home. It's always ready for me regardless of what I have to do. print, fax, scan, copy, everything.
But yeah, it's not the best photo quality in the world. Can't have people copying money, you know.

Seriously tho? HP 4000N with a duplex unit - we have ones that have been running 10+ years, super cheap on the refurb market, networkable and you can probably get cartridges cheap... fucking bulky as hell, but built to last.
HP LaserJet 4 is the AK-47 of printers.
