Potential Linux switchers welcome. Ask questions, get answers... maybe.

Why should I switch to BSD?

Because you love unix.

Because you want to.

How comfortable will I be as a windows user with the switch. What version of BSD would best suit my needs/match my windows experience.

When did the mascot get nigger lips?

Just switch to linux already

I've already switched from Linux, no interest in going back.

A few questions

In terms of stability, is it solid? Does it still have that ToyOS feel that a lot of distros have?

Is the ports system good enough & does it supply a lot of the same software (i.e. shit like VSCode, regular web browsers, DEs, wine, that can be installed through terminal).

I understand that macOS is "kind of" built on BSD, and seems to be very solid. Would I be afforded a similar reliable experience rather than what I would get on Linux?

Also is Wayland getting any traction on BSD? Or is Xorg the de facto for the foreseeable future?

It's a blowfish retard

Its actually a furfag caricature of P.Diddy, a famous homosexual black man.

hehehe

Stay away from BSD, your kind aren't welcome.

Thread's over, the shitposter found it

Dang, I feel so excluded

damn the shitposter has multiple dimensions, he falseflags as BSD users too!
i use openbsd and it doesn't have wine because it's pretty much a band-aid solution

ports have a lot of open source software though

Wine doesn't work on OpenBSD because OpenBSD developers don't support anything lol.

Wine doesn't work on OpenBSD for the same reason they dropped the Linux compat layer, they're interested in making native software run well, not software for other operating systems.

Why are you replying to !BE/4wes0mE and not just telling him to fuck off and kill himself.

What the frick? Wake up on the wrong side of the bed this morning?

I've already declared him to be a shitposter, now I'm just pointing out why he's wrong.

LOL

I'm not wrong, almost nobody actually contributes for free to OpenBSD.

They pay people to keep it functional so any kind of community support for projects like Wine is obviously going to be non-existent.

Lmfao, BSD btfo

Any audiophiles that use BSD?

Is it handy to use for high fidelity audio playback?

Audiophiles? No. Pedophiles? Most definitely.

Why don't you go get laid or something instead of wasting your time shitting on things you don't like? Oh that's right, you're scared of girls.

i heard openbsd has a surprisingly advanced audio subsystem

It doesn't, it uses OSS, which Linux dropped years ago when it couldn't keep up with hardware support.

No games

epik meme

>implying

well emulators exist

can't play overwatch

>pointless greentext

more like overtrash

play quake

I play both

Overwatch is superior to Quake in every conceivable aspect

is overwatch free software though

No it costs around $60

most free softwares are trash anyway

it does

The forced political equality bullshit made me not even want to try it.

>comparing overwatch to OpenBSD
>you should just axe your head in two

Nobody gives a shit.

Nobody cares lol

I give a shit, sorry famalams

/fglt/ trolls get the FUCK OUT OF HERE. STOP trying to derail this thread!

all media is politicized. if your looking to get anything out of it besides a good time you need to reevaluate your approach, if you actually give a shit and don't just bitchpost

You forgot your trip.

what a trip m8?

Heh heh, good one BE Awesome

I object to forced equality bullshit in multimedia because I believe its harmful to creativity and results directly in a sub-par product.

>forced equality bullshit
what does this even man?

...

BSD is incredibly solid. It might give you a toy os feel if you never used proprietary Unix back in the day, because it doesn't have modern app stores and control panels with ties deep into the system like ubuntu, suse or other big linuxes. Think of it like getting an industrial CNC router, vs prebuilt fancy 3d printer. It expects you know what you're doing, doesn't tack on features only helpful for the rank amateur, and doesn't get on the cover of pc magazine. But it does give you an incredibly powerful and robust tool that handles way more work.

Also, OSX may have started with some basis in BSD, but it's as close to Free/Open/NetBSD as the latest Android is to Fedora desktop.

sex parity for the sake of sex parity for example.
It's mostly bullshit if there is no reason for it

lets part ways

Lol what

No man. Parity is important. You have to know if the other end has it or not. Gender changers and voltage shifters can fix a lot of issues, and baud rate you can guess at pretty well, but parity and stop bits you need to know going in.

please /part

It can be a lot of things. You can insert homosexual or minority characters into a cast for no reason other than to be inclusive, the plots and stories can mimic disruptive sociopolitical movements, attempting to lend them legitimacy. Often products like this never sell because the social justice zealots that demand them are pieces of shit and don't buy the product anyway.

>using le corporate open source os

What if uh, the devs, gee idk, added female characters because, they just wanted to? And why do you even care, what are you, gay?

It isn't a hard concept to understand. Read it again in a decade or so and maybe you will get it.

You seem to be having trouble understanding.

>proceeds to use redhat and derivatives

I understood you but it didn't have anything to do with what I was talking about.

You were talking complaining about "forced" sex disparity in a video game, for some reason. You still haven't answered why you can care, or why it matters, in the context of video games, specifically Overwatch.

>shitposting

Well he is afraid of girls

No I wasn't.

>The forced political equality bullshit made me not even want to try it.

...

Just because a game has female characters doesn't mean they have a sociopolitical agenda, thats just fucking retarded.

What does that have to do with you complaining about women in a video game, and then backtracking and saying you weren't, and then getting proven wrong?

There are no forced female characters in Overwatch though.

The forced aspects are when they create story lines where obese women are encouraged to be proud of their bodies, or do stupid shit like making a character overcome prejudice and reveal themselves as homosexual.

There is no obesity, only THICCness

In the Aladdin movies, Jasmine is made progressively uglier in each sequel because they felt that her appearance was making girls insecure.

I'm basically saying that the motivation for changes like this is basically censorship.

Yeah but when coming back to Overwatch, where the focus is multiplayer (not a nonexistent story), why boycott it? I mean exactly is the problem?

I just decided not to purchase it, combination of reasons really, the lack of the free to play option when they had said it may be, the high system requirements, and later when I did have the hardware to play it, the comics and promotions were sjw shit and turned me off of the game.

I wasn't convinced Blizzard could make a good FPS game anyway.

I used to recommend PC-BSD but since it became TrueOS the default desktop environment is really offputting. I would recommend FreeBSD, it will be a little tougher initially but it will give you a fantastic understanding of Unix in general. It also has decent driver support, arguably the best of all BSDs.

I have been using FreeBSD full time for just over 10 months so let me know if you have any questions.

>tfw love BSD with a passion but it doesnt support any of my hardware
>tfw too poor to buy new hardware

I guess I'll keep using Void linux then :\ at least its on the BSD license so that counts for something right?

What's the state of openbsd's vmm these days, I heard the other day it can boot a linux kernel.

I downloaded a freebsd iso and it doesnt seem to be bootable. How can i install it with a usb?

Oh, I thought it's because you are afraid of girls, lol

gotta get the memstick .img

also checksum it. that download server is notorious for corrupt images.

The iso's for optical media, you want the img

>Wayland

As far as I know, only OpenBSD allows you to run X11 totally non priv'd, so long as you have an AMD or Intel vidjya card. So you effectively get the Wayland security but are stuck with the ancient X11 features (not that I care, my desktop just execs emacs, you may care tho)

dd if=/file/to/your/iso of=/dev/sdX #be sure to identify the drive

Also play around with the blocksize vor the speed; bs=4096 gives breddy gud results with my disk and zip disquettes

You don't know very far then.

FreeBSD has no priv X11? since when?

Fuck you

I also tried that but my only available machine is a windows xp machine and it BSODs every time it finishes the media.

I will try to install linux and then write the img on USB

GhostBSD is an excellent place to start.

>wayland

More like gayland stick to fedora if you want non Unix me too features.

Does openbsd/freebsd support skylake graphics yet? Any ETA on when they will?

i think dragonfly does

Why the fuck is this Sup Forums and /r9k/ faggots obsessed with girls in a videogame?

What the fuck are you talking about?

That's sort of neat. I haven't checked up on Dragonfly since HAMMER2, is it actually usable in a cluster environment at the moment?
