All proprietary software is botnet. Install Gentoo and then use an open source torrent client such as Transmission or Deluge.

fpbp

transmission qt for windows is nice.

>python

Deluge is C++ with a python front-end.

Yeah, nah you didn't get memed. utorrent is a botnet and installs adware.

use rtorrent, qbittorrent, deluge, transmission or tixati (closed source)

You use 2.2.1 or 2.0.4, right?

>and installs adware
you mean the ads inside uTorrent itself or the ones you can opt-out at setup? Because I've had no problems with ads.

...

Idk, works fine for me (:

3.5
never disabled automatic updates

Neither, I use the far superior qbittorrent

uTorrent is not only a botnet it is also adware and I believe it started installing ransomware on users computers in the recent outbreak.

here is some attention

uninstall asap, check the archives if you want to know the reasons

Jesus Christ. Go install 2.2.1 and turn off updates. uTorrent reached torrenting perfection there. All they added later were fucking ads/virus scanners/media player bullshit.
NEVER use a torrent client larger than 400KB. It's all botnet over that.

whew lad, how did you get such a minimalistic UI?

Stop shilling your shitty portable version made by a russian retard

How many megabytes into BOTNET territory is that?

it is a botnet.

switch to version 2.2.1, qbittorrent, deluge or transmission.

>2.2.1
isn't it slower and stuff?

Thank you Thank you Thank you Thank you

Here it is maxing my connection for the last 10 hours (except for an internet outage that just happened). Guess what it was doing for the 10 hours before that? And the 10 hours before that?

It's all covered. Newer versions of uTorrent, the ones with the ads, are now and have always been advised against by us for a list of reasons. We have always, we do now, and we will always tell people to only use uTorrent version 2.2.1.

This is far too difficult of a concept for you and definitely for Sup Forums but start by googling "numbers" and go from there.

I meant slower when it comes to finding peers outside the trackers and shit. I download a lot of rare stuff, like movies from the early 70s or European car service software.

32mb pieces do work with it yes?

>wiki.installgentoo.com/index.php/List_of_recommended_Windows_software
>μTorrent 2.2.1 is outdated, unmaintained and proprietary. However, it is generally recommended as the only acceptable version of μTorrent for Windows. It stays true to μTorrent's original bloat-free philosophy, remains free of advertisements, and is accepted at nearly every private tracker.
Wow, what a deep insight.

>get shitty user experience just to hide from made up bogeyman

You'd better start believing in botnets... you're using one.

Yes, that's the wiki. What further questions do you have?

It's free and the full source code is available online. Calling it proprietary is just a technicality at this point relating to the software licence. Nobody has ever raised a concern with the source code and all of the problems people have were introduced later. It's perfectly fine.

It connects just fine.

You mean 16MB? Yes. It can't make them (max 4MB), but it can handle them just fine.

Why should I use an outdated version?

Because simply being new isn't a selling point by itself, applefag.

...

It's not. Nothing has been added to the torrent protocol since its release.

>applefag
lol, no need to be upset
I just assume some bugs and vulnerabilities must have been fixed in the process

why wouldn't you just use 2.2.1 though?

Everything is a botnet.
Even your brain is a botnet.

Stop attention whoring, no one cares that you are a female.

turns out I had already done that

gui.show_plus_av_upsell
gui.show_plus_conv_upsell
gui.show_plus_upsell_nodes
I can't see these even with shift

The only bug in 2.2.1 that I'm aware of is a display bug. The main screen doesn't show speeds over 16MB/s -- it wraps around. So if you have over a 128Mbit connection you'd have to look into the torrent's General tab to see it maxing your connection.

iirc there was an instance of µTorrent installing software that users opted out from at the install wizard thingy.
At was some time ago for a short time i think.

I use qBittorrent tho,no fuckery

Just found out how to do it. Turns out the only one I was missing was gui.show_plus_upsell_nodes. Still only gets rid of the ads, doesn't have the fully minimalistic UI.

This is how it looks like for me.

Now get rid of it. You don't need a Flash ad network in a torrent client. Not displaying them still leaves you vulnerable.
It has no advantages over 2.2.1 and a multitude of disadvantages.

is that fucking Windows Vista?

remove immediately
install and use qbittorrent
you won't notice a single difference plus it's not a botnet plus no ads

Why would I use 2.2.1 though?

What ad?

>:(

Look in the Oprions in toolbar

Is it over 400KB? If the answer is yes it's a confirmed BOTNET.

Yes. Vista being bad is a meme, it's ok with SP2

>not using small icons mode on your taskbar

>Why would I use 2.2.1 though
Because, after 2.2.1, utorrent was purchased by BitTorrent, inc which is focused on monetization, and not the product. 2.2.1 is the last version of utorrent before it became an ad-delivery, data collection system that invades every facet of your privacy it can, but just happens to download torrents.

I use flud
>did pah dun guufed

what about bittorrent?

Which one? They bought out uTorrent and became the same thing, but nobody uses the Bittorrent uTorrent, we use 2.2.1. I'm actually not familiar with the client prior to that since I've been using uTorrent since somewhere around 1.3.

7.9.9 is the version I'm using

So you're just using uTorrent 3.something.

Yeah I probably have some malwares from it here

2.2.1
Never crashed on me. Never failed me. Always quick and speedy. Haven't used anything else in years.

this

gentoo is unironically the best operating system in existence and the last vestige of freedom on privacy

People caused it to become a botnet. So who are these people?

>freedom AND privacy hurrrdurrrr

Windows 8.1 being bad is a meme. People hated it because of the fucking start menu, proving that winbabbies have permanent baby duck syndrome and that they are the real reason Microsoft can't try new things to improve their system.

>shitty user experience
>best operating system in existence

Windows 8.1 being bad for desktops without touchscreens isn't a meme though
