>Budget 100-300€ >Location Greece for prices check here -> skroutz.gr/c/1860/over-ear-akoystika.html Greek price comparison site. >Source Brand new motherboard with decent onboard sound card and getting good amp soon >Type of headphone Doesn't matter >Open or closed Doesn't matter either they're only going to be used at home >Comfort level Doesn't matter my ears are used to abuse >Sound signature Considering i'm kinda new at this and haven't ever tried decent headphones before i'll just mention the use here so i suppose whatever delivers best on those catergories. First and foremost listening to music at loud volumes the genres will vary from classical to electro to some metal varietions to modern orchestral(incorporates both orchestral and electro sounds) and plenty of soundtracks all of which should have at least a 320kbps mp3 quality. Another very important use for the headphones is going to be VR gaming on HTC VIVE and asmr so a good soundstage would be very important. >Past headphones Shitty cheap headsets
So at this point i'm between hd 600 for 265€ or the hd 650 for 285€, many seem pleased with the hd 600 and might be the headphones for me considering i don't know yet what kind of sound i like and people here claim they're good all-rounders. Should i maybe consider a different brand at this price range? I just want to get to the end-game and only have to think about upgrading again years later when i actually earn a decent living.
Also will a 20 year old good expensive amp that was mainly used for speakers but also has headphone 1/4 jack and can connect to my motherboard be my end-game amp(not sure if it has dac included)? The thing is, schiit has 0 greek sellers and when i cheked their prices they dont ship here or say they're out of stock, and e10k is a non end-game 100€ tier amp that just throws me way over my budget so i'd rather get my dad's used amp since he doesn't use it anymore.

HD600 are best regarded despite cheaper, so it's pretty much a no brainer. The HD650 are a slightly colored version that particularly favors bass and recesses treble.
Most reviewers that done both do prefer the HD600 and they're pretty much the only headphones you'll ever need.
Kevin Miller
God, i hope i don't get meme'd the place i'm ordering them from is on the other side of the country and if i want to return them i have to pay to ship them back.
Grayson Cruz
>HD 600 >Good soundstage It's not very wide at all but if you like them, they're pretty good. K612 is the poor man's HD 600 with wide soundstage.
Jordan Reyes
I've personally used both 600 and 650, both are great.
I prefer the 650 but the 600 is close behind in my book; extraordinary headphones for the price either way
Carson Sanchez
Are the Monoprice Monolith M560 worth the price? i currently have the beyerdynamic Custom One Pro Plus
Samuel Hill
Hmm, so would this mean the hd 600s soundstage will be a poorer experience? I think for vr and ero-asmr use a wide soundstage would be rather important Which one do you think has a better soundstage? Considering they only have a 20 price difference here.
James Foster
They're nearly identical
Juan Rodriguez
What "wide soundstage" really means is colored (exaggerated) soundstage.
The HD600 is a neutral AF headphone which gives it to you as it is, including soundstage.
Of course it does not sound "artificially narrow" like closed headphones do.
Gavin Evans
Agreed, the 600/650 can still sound very wide on tracks that purposely exaggerate the soundstage
James Ward
I see, i suppose hd 600 is the safest option then considering i don't know if i like the coloring of the hd 650
Ryan Russell
Go for it, you really can't go wrong with either.
Just keep in mind they'll be a little tight when they arrive, give them a week or so to strech out.
Do /NOT/ strech the band at the top, bend the metal gently if you have to
Nathaniel Gray
Alright >Just keep in mind they'll be a little tight when they arrive, give them a week or so to strech out. >Do /NOT/ strech the band at the top, bend the metal gently if you have to good to know.
What exaggerated soundstage will give you in VR is shit right next to you or right in front of you would sound as if it was FAR AWAY, which definitely you do not want.

Would I need an amp/dac for them?
Landon Nguyen
Straight from your PC/Phone will be fine but you might benifit from one in the future. If you do order them wait a month or so and see if they're too quiet or have any distortion, then order something like the Fulla 2
Tyler Parker
They don't need one but their electrical impedence and phase graph is all types of wonky. It'll improve in bass with an amp though doesn't need one to get loud or be driven properly.
Nathan Barnes
>Would I need an amp/dac for them? No need (they'll sound good without, already), but having one would benefit you (they'd sound better). How much better will depend on your source.
Most smartphones have builtin amps these days, so you can play a youtube or something on them and compare with your computer.
Note many recent motherboards have a built-in headphone amp too, which should suffice. You'd typically get a dialog when plugging the headphones to a computer jack asking which type of headphone. The fullsized and/or automatic settings will enable the amp. This only helps in boards that actually have an amp. See your manufacturers' spec. Asus calls it something like crystal audio 2 and is explicit with the amp thing. Other brands have equivalent such commercial names for it.

Hey retards, what can you tell me about the KZ ZS3?
Caleb Rivera
Warmish-dark, great sub-bass, amazing fit, but shit stock cable.
They're good for the price, and even better if you get a silver ZS3 cable which are like $4 on eBay. Stock cable picks up a ton of noise from rubbing on clothes and stuff.
There are mods to remove some dampening foam to make them sound better too. Search for it on head-fi.
Jaxson Hill
I recommend the 650. I use mine for both music and vidya and it's great, especially for long sessions. The price difference between it and the 600 is probably because it has a nicer cable and a more sturdy headband.
Both of them should sound great on that tube amp, but if you want a good neutral solid-state amp+dac at some point, check out the audio-gd NFB-11. They'll ship it to you there

I work in an extremely noisy environment where I need ear protection, at the moment I'm using my RHA MA750's to reduce the noise and listen to music while I work. I use these for 8 hours a day and they are fairly comfortable. Where they fall short is after a while my ear seems to get sweaty and they start falling out which leaves me with no ear protection until I completely dry out my ears. This usually happens at around the 4 hour mark. I'm using the plastic ear tips with these if that makes any difference. Now I'm considering buying regular full-size headphones or new IEM's that work in my noisy environment and will stay in my ear.
With the RHA MA750's I'm also able to still hear enough to talk to my coworkers without taking them out but I am able to drown out enough sound that I'm pretty sure it's safe for my ears, was hoping to find something similar, this however is not a major aspect and can be ignored. Thanks for any help.
Thanks guys, I'm leaning towards the HD 380s, I really liked my old Sennheisers. Would it be worth it to buy a portable amp with these?

Nicholas Harris

I've spent a a lot of money on headphones and amps and the 600 has been my endgame for fucking ages. If you're happy with the minimal bass then you will never need to change them. What amp do you use?
Kayden Carter
Just from look of those headphones I can say that they are bad, not exactly your model, but company in general. I recommend you to buy ISK or SUPERLUX. I bought ISK HP2011 for $40, good frequency response and feedbacks.
Wyatt Mitchell
Just look at this.

Portapros were pretty cool, my pads disintegrated over time, however. I'm using the E10k as a placeholder. A >friend let me try out the Stack but I'm not sure if I really want to drop that much shekels for it. I've had them for 6 months now, very satisfied. I also didn't pay the almost $400 price on it, I got them back when they were $260 or so.
Matthew Jackson
I have LSRs on desk but I use headphones with laptop in any other part of apartment or when I want LOUD at night.
Christopher Diaz
What kind of sound do you want? Lot's of bass, or more like monitoring headphones?
I had the e10k too when I bought them, it's a great amp for what it is, but the fulla 2 is better, it costs a lot more for Europeans but it's worth it imo. The highs are less harsh and the bass is better. 600+fulla 2 is my endgame.
Austin Lewis

Apple earbuds: These things really hurt my ears. Monoprice 9927: Compared to the earbuds these ones sounded bad, but were slightly more comfortable. Koss Porta Pros: I really enjoyed these and am not opposed to having headphones instead of IEM. I liked that these were comfortable and had pretty great sound.
The big issue I have with headphones is I tend to fuck up the cables and connector. I end up bending the connector and then I have to move the cable around to a certain position to have sound come out. This happened to my Porta Pros. I fixed the connector, but the cable is still kinda fucked.

I have a few questions I got a 770 (250 Ohm) as my first high end cans, tried them for a couple of hours and they sounded worse than a 2$ earphone chink cable, my laptop couldn't drive them at all, bass was not existent and the songs sounded like whispers. So I packed them and ordered a fiio e10, it's the cheapest amp, and was recommended everywhere (fulla was an option but it costs more than double the e10k to have it delivered to my country, not counting taxes) The e10k definitely drives them like a champ, but they sounded so generic, I don't know how to describe it in an audiophile terms, but they were so boring and the sound was so boring. I read about burn in, thought that was some kind of gimmick, so I left home today with a 12 hour playlist and returned and holy shit, these things sound much more fun, I never want to take them off, every things sounds much more clearer. the bass is heavier and the details are much clearer in all types of songs. the e10 at half the volume sounds pretty loud, while having it at max at first didn't sound too loud.
final q: h gain and l gain: is there a point of using h gain ever?

Just got my Monolith M1060 and Monoprice 11567 combo. It's pretty great let me tell ya. The headphones themselves are comfy as fuck. And they sound amazing, a huge upgrade from Sennheiser HD598s and a Sound Blaster Z. Maybe it's just because I haven't heard $10,000 Stax or whatever, but I find it hard to believe it can get much better from here. Sure, the sound signature could change, but that's about it. These things sound so clear. Huge soundstage too. Only downside is spending $400 on headphones I guess.
