Google just killed Android rooting

Netflix and all other major apps are not going to work on rooted Android devices anymore.

Oh no, I can't install my favorite botnets on my botnet now.

Why an archive link? Did they pull it?

>He doesn't know about root hiding
>He really thinks this will stop people from sideloading it anyway

Can I still install gentoo on my phone?

>Google killed rooting because Netflix said so!
What the fuck?

For the average autistic Sup Forums user afraid of blogs and ads, even though they use adblockers, and this is a major blog.

This

>Google also announced that even sideloaded apps will get scanned by their new Google Play Protect service, which may help nullify the risk of sideloading in the first place.

Yes dude u can..
U can make a joke about but u dont know the fact that gentoo can run anywhere
Lame faggot

But hey! Magisk su passes the safety net shit
So chill fellow faggots!

STALLMAN WAS RIGHT AGAIN
YOU DON'T OWN YOUR DEVICE

>>Google killed rooting because Netflix said so!
>What the fuck?

Wrong.

I didn't read the article, but I know what SafetyNet is. It's an API provided by Google that allows developers to phone home to Google to determine if a device has been $compromised or rooted". The API sends (I'm assuming here) a payload to Google. Google analyzes it and returns a Boolean value. There's hardly any documentation on it (well from when I looked at least).

The API is not new. Netflix could have implemented its use months ago

and why would i root?

>I didn't read the article,

This is obvious, because THIS ISN'T ABOUT THE FUCKING API YOU HAVE IN MIND, COCKLICKER.

READ THE FUCKING ARTICLE NOT TO MAKE A FOOL OUT OF YOURSELF:

>This is different from the full SafetyNet API implementation that apps like Android Pay and Pokémon Go use.

We already have systemless root to allow OTA updates, Android pay etc. This will be worked around.

>Google Play Protect service
Disable it. You have root. You can do anything.

If your device is rooted could you not just remove that.

>netflix
Oh no

Considering Xposed is only available on 6.0, I'm not upgrading to anything newer either ways. I could also install Magisk or whatever to bypass SafetyNet but nothing I use blocks rooted phones.

>pay for apps
>have job
>root device
>get shat on
Fuck you Google.

It'd be a shame if the root user disabled that service ;)

THIS MAN IS A PROPHET

>use iOS
>not autistic
>never even changed my wallpaper on any iPhone since 2010

Feels great to not be mentally ill and require my smartphone be able to torrent faggot trap porn and chink cartoons or whatever you guys do on your Xiamomemeo phones.

Read it.

So the SafetyNet integrity is being checked when using the play store. This change allows developers to leverage the SafetyNet API without implementing it in their app, and instead allow the play store to deny access to the app via disallow download if the end device does not meet the criteria.

It's still using the SafetyNet API you dumb shit.

have they implemented consistency yet or are too assfucked already?

I root my phone so I can use android without google.
This already mean I can't use the majority of android applications.
Not being able to watch tiny movies is not really a problem for me.
Google has always been a tyrannical dictator ship hellbent on the destruction of humanity.
They have the morality of a terror organization except they actually have a cause they are fighting for: they want to make money.

It is just a matter of time before they are rightfully executed for the war crimes they are committing against humanity.

>root phone
>remove pre-installed bloat
>unroot phone
>???
>profit

What kind of retard leaves his phone rooted what the is wrong with yoou?

>100 billion indians and russians vs. something that makes custom roms not work
who would win?

>A friend once asked me to watch a video with her that she was going to display on her computer using Netflix. I declined, saying that Netflix was such a threat to freedom that I felt uncomfortable with promoting its use in this way.

this guy serious?

Well the russians hacked the US election so they win.

Yes. I respect Stallman because he always stands by his values unlike the weak men who are willing to trade them for a single night of sexual relations with a female.

LineageOS + F-Droid doesn't have this problem

Can't you just disable root and boot into recovery when you want it back?

Don't forget Yalp Store

Because OP is a tourist.

>using netflix
top

lel

desu

Can't download their movies and watch anywhere.

People root their phones to do much more than remove bloatware.

>gapps
>netflix
who gives a shit

What is yalp store?

primewire [](dot)[] ag
>not recording your streams with screen capturing/recording software on desktop
>not renting DVD/VHS and burning/recording/digitizing it
>not having burner/secondary phone exclusively for *ill* obtained APKs
>not always walking around with a butt plug to constantly massage your prostate
Kys

>mfw all the ratings in the play store go up because people can't give it a poor rating because it doesn't work right on their broken custom ROM.

>ban india/third world countries from leaving reviews
>quality of reviews shoots up

How do we bypass this Sup Forums?

By not using it

Apple iPhone doesn't have this problem

We kill the (((Googles)))

fuck Netflix and fuck black people

u nigga lol haha lmao brb jk fag

You already can't access some apps with jailbroken iPhones anymore

>Netflix and all other major apps
>all other major apps
???

The problem I have with this is that people using perfectly good devices that haven't received official updates in months may get blocked from installing apps because they're not passing this arbitrary "safety net".

they are trying to lock down your device. they work for the merchantery. the nosed man

I had my Pixel rooted before and was pretty upset about not being able to play Pokemon Go. Not enough to unroot that is. But seeing that they will do this across many apps made me install magisk. It was worth it. Thanks Netflix!

this, only dumb normies spend time/money on smartphones

>netflix
>not torrenting
The fuck is wrong with you?

Pajeets BTFO!
Poorfags BTFO!
Brown & balck people BTFO!
Pirates BTFO!

Based Google just pissed off 99% of its userbase.

Do you not have a nose? Are you an anime?

Enjoy your viruses and begging to be included in the kool kids klub that is private trackers.

I believe SafetyNet gets tripped if you do anything to /system or any other read-only partition.

>viruses
If you're not a dumbass, this is a non-issue.
>begging
See above.

>Netflix doesn't work
>PopcornTime does (probably)
Torrent trackers may be "disappearing" left and right but there will always be a way to torrent movies and tv.

>torrenting
>viruses

Safetynet is already spoofable on microg,

my nigga

Magisk bypasses CTS SafteyNet

problem solved

don't use google products

snapchat and pokemon go pulled this aswell, its relatively easy to get around if you have system root (different than root, new version of SuperSU has it tho)
>magisk
>root switch
you just gotta pass the SafetyNet test

How does magisk work? Does it act like SuperSU ? I can install it but I can't install the safety net fix

>root phone
>torrent the TV shows on your desktop for free and put them on phones sd card
>watch TV shows for free with rooted phone
I think I found a loophole

Its an arms race and the user will always have final word on their device.

I use plex for that.

I never watch netflix anymore anyways I should just cancel and keep pirating.

systemless root makes it undetectable

>on rooted devices
>android killed

yeah that less than 1% of the user base is really gonna kill android

systemless root makes root undetectable and in netflix's case you don't even need to bypass anything. Netflix is only removed from the playstore if you're rooted and still can be easily downloaded elsewhere. OP didn't even read the article he posted.

...

4u

meh

my bank's software doesnt work on rooted devices and i'd rather have access to that than 'muh freedoms'

I'm just worried that .apk's of stuff not available on my region I installed and spent money on will not work anymore.

this

men don't compromise their beliefs for the sake of a woman

I haven't rooted since fucking KitKat.
Who gives a shit.

>using netflix on a tiny phone screen
Literally why?

Nice blog

>Netflix and all other major apps are not going to work on rooted Android devices anymore.

How is this even news? Apps like Chimpokoman Yo have checked for /sbin/su for ages (and it's always been a small matter of renaming that /sbin/hiddensu or something).

Exactly.

>scanned by their new Google Play Protect service
The worst case this becomes a matter of being forced to just rely on F-Droid's appstore.

Honestly, this isn't such a bad thing. Google Pray Services are already praying on people to the degree where many are or are considering dropping it. Further crap from Google will just push more people into rooting their phones and removing the google infestation.

Exactly.

If you have root you can just tell the app you don't have it. Problem solved

Apps that don't take advantage of the play services api are depreciated.

bullshit
just look what happened to iOS

>is he serious about standing up for his principles
yes, I know it's shocking to see anyone do this, especially in burgerland

>implying Googlel's endgame for Android is not consolidating it under a much more locked down platform
>expecting an ad company to keep putting out an OS that makes it easier to block ads and have other control of your device that takes away from their profit
BIGmeme

This is stupid, if I spend up to 350-450$ on an unlocked device I should be able to use whatever software I want to on it, and do whatever I may want to do to said device.

Wouldn't apps depending on this service try to shutdown if the service is disabled?

>STALLMAN WAS RIGHT AGAIN
stallman's always been 100% right about literally everything

the only reason people disagree is because he's a weird hairy autist and it's easier to just dismiss him as an old hippie than admit that the system is fucked

So I can't root my phone because LG-bootloop.
I disabled GSF and pretty much everything Google. The only difference is before my phone stuck in a bootloop I had a exclamation mark next to Wifi icon meaning it has no connection to Google servers.
After I had it repaired under warranty I disabled every Google app but there's no exclamation mark and apps that depend on GSF seem to be working.
What did (((they))) do to my phone?

>eats stuff off his foot during lecture

Just buy movies on dvd how fucking hard is it. You get the whole ritual experience of unwrapping it from packaging and inserting it into a player no buffering and you get to furnish bookshelves to boot. Netflix is for cucks.

>DVD
What year is it, 2005?

Better yet, rip discs from local libraries, rentals, friends.

exactly
