What is Sup Forums's opinion on smart watches?
Smart Watches
You look like a huge fucking nerd wearing them. What, are gonna hack the FBI on your watch computer thingie that doesn't even have a week of battery life?
Have one, like it.
It makes some things more convenient but it's not exactly life-changing like a smartphone is. You have to treat it like an accessory to your phone.
I like to be able to see text messages and even reply to some without digging in my pocket for my phone which is sometimes rude, but glancing at your watch is much less rude and you can excuse yourself if needed.
>charging your watch
what's next? charging your glasses? gloves?
Honestly the google one seem dead, You can't even buy one from the official google store. Pebble have been gutted by Fitbit, and i don't have an iPhone so the Apple watch is useless to me.
The problem with them is when they originally came on the market they were made to be as aesthetically unappealing as possible. They looked like plastic autism watches that no one would ever wear as a stand alone watch. Watches are really just jewellery in this day and age. I want a smart watch that looks like a rolex most of the time but can also do other things if I ever need it to.
Fossil makes some normal-looking smart watches and I don't think my moto 360 (2nd gen) looks too autistic with a nice metal band and stuff
Apple watch looks like a fuckin toy though, always lol when I see fags wearin em
I'd pick a smart watch 100% over a regular watch except for battery life being a problem.
These things need a minimum 1-week charge. Having to recharge it every day is just dumb.
Also while it's cool, it's basically an add-on to your phone and isn't worth $400 by itself. (although people are willing to throw $4000 away on a watch that only tells time so maybe?)
Mostly what I use it for is reading text messages/notifications, setting alarm, stopwatch, time, heart monitor, changing music, and calculator
I can't emphasize the calculator part enough. It's not enough screen real estate for anything fancy but holy shit is it convenient. Sometimes I forget my phone, sometimes I'm just away from my phone. Never away from my watch and calculator always comes in handy.
Gimmicky shit.
Altho it isnt a smartwatch, I love my fitbit. Sometimes I wear it with an normal watch (on both hands).
The technology isn't there yet. Here are the specs I would need.
>looks like this
>can't be identified as a smart watch until it is being used as such
>smaller screens
>multiple changeable straps in different styles
>thinner face
>longer battery life (at least a week)
I have a watch and a phone. I dont need a watch because my phone tells time. I don't need a smart watch because I have a phone. I wear watches as a fashion accessory.
Until smart watches are indecipherable from a rolex at first glance there is no point in owning one.
t. non-owner
Smart watches are the pinnacle of consumer shit.
It's just an expensive toy that will crap out on you in less than 3 years when the battery becomes so shit its not worth using.
Some people actually do have uses for them but for 90% of the population its just a fashion accessory.
>Some people actually do have uses for them but for 90% of the population its just a fashion accessory.
you mean like real watches?
I have the lg urbane and it looks really nice
Used mechanicals all my life, got a moto 360 liked it but battery was pretty trash, tried a few more and settled on the urbane.
Nice watch and the watch faces can be set to be as inconspicuous as you want.
comfy dude
I had a Sony Smartwatch 2 a few years ago, ended up selling it after a year.
At first it's pretty neat, but you will realize that you can't do much with it and for anything more complex than switching a track or watching the time you will grab your phone out of your pocket in two seconds, where the usability is way better than on a 2"ish screen
Also the frequent charging will annoy you. When you wake up with a dead watch and have to get to work: no watch today.
post a pic
I work in a uniformed service job and I loved my moto360 as a way to check my text message without pulling my phone out at work.
But that piece of shit died and the android watch market is stagnant as shit so I have no idea what to replace it with and I'm not sure I care
I don't see why she should have one considering it's retarded.
At least a real watch with a comparable price to a smart watch will serve you for decades and is serviceable while a smart watch is basically throwaway.
personally I'd probably go with the urbane 2 if I were buying another
but there's really not as much buzz with the watches as there is with phones. I'd honestly never have bought a smart watch personally, but I got mine as a gift and while it's nothing particularly special it's still a watch that can do a little more than regular watches.
If these manufacturers want to do it right they're going to need to start integrating an analog scroll function into the crown/bezel, better battery life, and moar sensors to give the watch some utility. Heart rate monitor is great; can it do blood pressure? How about guess the weather based on the barometer sensor? Built in-gps like my phone?
I'd even be willing to use an e-ink watch for that 2 month long battery life.
i like the samsung gear watches, almost bought the s2 when i saw one for $100 at a pawn shop. out of the ones i've played with they are the ones i like the best, using the bezel to navigate is pretty nice as opposed to using only the screen or the crown. plus they don't have the douchey smart watch look, it looks like a regular old watch.
But a real watch with a price comparable to smart watch will also make you look like a gigantic poorfag.
I'd love an e-ink android wear watch man, especially now that we have colour e-ink
That looks pretty nice. If they keep that aesthetic I might buy into the smartwatch meme when they come down in price.
The good smartwatches look like regular watches
Why is it so perfect?
>shit battery
>not a real watch
>I use an analog watch so I won't have to check my phone and it's a refreshing feeling to not have to deal with notifications
>looks faggy without any of the good qualities of being homosexual
