If you would like to try out GNU/Linux you can do one of the following: 0) Install a GNU/Linux distribution of your choice in a Virtual Machine. 1) Use a live image and to boot directly into the GNU/Linux distribution without installing anything. 2) Dual boot the GNU/Linux distribution of your choice along with Windows or macOS. 3) Go balls deep and replace everything with GNU/Linux.

What the fuck did you just fucking say about me, you proprietary slave? I'll have you know I graduated top of my class at Hardvard, and I've been involved in numerous free software projects, and I have contributed to over 300 core-utils for GNU. I am skilled in Lisp and I'm St. IGNU-cius, saint of the Church of Emacs. You are nothing to me but just another unethical non-free software advocate. I will distribute the fuck out of your source code with freedom the likes of which has never been seen before on this Earth, mark my fucking words. You think you can get away with saying that shit about me and the GPL on the internet? Think again, fucker. As we speak I am contacting my colleagues at FSF and your binaries are being reverse engineered right now so you better prepare for the storm, maggot. The storm that wipes out the pathetic little thing you call your copyright. You're fucking dead, kid. Free software can be anywhere, anytime, and it can ensure your freedom in over four ways, and that's just with the GPLv2. Not only am I extensively skilled at hacking, but I have access to the source of the entire GNU userland and core-utils and I will use it to its full extent to wipe your miserable proprietary code off the face of the continent, you little shit. If only you could have known what ethical retribution your little "clever" program was about to bring down upon you, maybe you would have ensured your users' freedom. But you couldn't, you didn't, and now you're paying the price, you goddamn idiot. I will shit free as in freedom all over you and you will drown in it. You're fucking dead, kiddo.

Regarding the OP: Why call it a "copypasta collection" when there are no pastas there? I was expecting the interjection pasta, the open source one, maybe even the Navy Seals RMS version.
I'm running Fedora 25 WS (GNOME) with wayland on a Dell XPS 15 9560. I've got bumblebee with managed repos installed and shit worked great in the past. Latest kernel update 4.10.15 also seemed to work but yesterday GNOME Software showed nVIDIA driver update and I installed it. Now laptop becomes completely unresponsive after login or after waiting to long on login screen. Older kernels same problem. Rescue kernel works but has short 1~2sec freezes. What do?

I'm going the lasetjet route. What's a reasonably decent printer/all-in-one to buy and works well with GNU/Linux?

A while back the OP paste was like 3 posts long so we created a pastebin for the whole shit, hence the copapasta name. But you're right, we should fix that.

Can someone please direct me to a resource that would help me install the correct driver for my apu. I know that there is radeon for old amd gpus, and that there is amdgpu and amdgpu-pro for GCN 1.2 cards. my apu gpu is gcn, but i don't think it is gcn 1.2. thanks
Noob here. I'm not familiar with file systems and stuff, if I've been using Windows and have some files on a USB drive and boot up Linux, will I be able to access them from the hard drive or will it have to be formatted or something? I'm only running Linux in a VM before I commit and I can't get it to detect the hard drive through the VM.

Seems to be a bug in kernel 4.10.XX. I will now have to use my laptop in runlevel 3 exclusively. V Hacker but not comfy at all.
Austin Rodriguez
If you've been using that USB drive in windows, it'll be formatted in either fat, NTFS or exfat. Free GNU/Linux implementations of all those filesystems exist. Depending on your distro of choice, it'll work out of the box or you'll need to install some package first, but you can access those files just fine.
Luke Kelly
That's what I like to hear. Thanks!

What's the best way to automatically resample/convert (whichever term is more correct) 5.1 surround sound in mpv to 2.1 or stereo upon playback? Is mpv responsible for that or should I use something else (system sound settings, pulseaudio)?

Yes, her name is Enav Gand Gallili, and she tried to sue the whole world and its dog for taking the piss out of her and calling out her factual mistakes.

Going to get my Masters in around a year. What do? 2 offers so far:
Stay at current research institute >coworkers use Ubuntu and Vim >software I develop released under proprietary license >downtown, lots of shit to do after work but annoying traffic >good pay >big comfy 3 man offices >Python and C++ (computer vision)
Switch to smaller research institute >coworkers use Arch and Emacs >software might be released under free license (have to check) >industrial area, fuck-all to do but easier to get to >only like 70% as much monies >C (firmware development, embedded Linux) >fellow student works there and loves it
Both jobs come with flexible work hours though the smaller institute seems to be more laid-back.
Nolan Bailey
How much pay are we talking for each? I would go with the second one personally, especially if the software they're releasing is libre.
Adam Wood
>How much pay are we talking for each? Meaningless to post numbers since cost of living is different in different countries and areas. At the current job I can expect to get around 3-4 times what a 3-4 room flat in quiet places near the city would cost. More than enough to live comfortably in any case, except I can go to race tracks only half as often with the lower paying job I guess.
Asher Scott
>Enav Gand Gallili Not enough that she's a woman who doesn't know what the fuck she's talking about, but she's a Jewess, so that naturally disposes her into spreading mass lies, spreading disinformation & shuing all who call her out on it.

Is it possible to run a program that requires X11 like a video game without having to use a windows manager? I just want to use X for a handful of programs and only want to open them directly without using a windows manager.
Cooper Hall
look into xinit you can start x with a terminal like xterm instead of a wm, so basically it should work for other programs too

I need detailed info about bootloaders and partitions and bios and shit that is even easier for understanding than articles on arch wiki. Anything, anyone?

You're going to need to be less vague of what you want to know. The arch wiki is pretty detailed and simplified so anyone can understand the basics.

Is such a thing possible at all? I don't care if I have to spend an entire weekend dawn to dusk configuring shit. As long as it doesn't completely fuck up the OS.
I have to use a mac for work and I'm getting real fucking tired of the macOS DE.

this doesn't belong in this thread user. isn't the idea of having a mac for macos & its design?

install the gentoo system, make an iso image of the filesystem & put that onto a disk.
Anthony Wilson
Why not just install on bare metal and avoid overhead?
