No I don't.
only some very important things are on multiple drives and a microsd card.
I only have a backup of my keepass database and key file on a USB flash drive.
Seagate is great desu, pic related, holds all my top notch important files and vast meme collection.
>Seagate is great desu
lolno
every single drive that died in the recent months at work was seagate.
>seagate
uh oh...
Here goes:
1. Main copy of data: Stored on 9TB Raid 5 Array.
2. Full Raid 5 array is backed up to 8TB nas & 3TB external drive. Those devices stay shutdown when not in use.
3. Core data from Raid 5 is backed up to several 2TB drives which are then stored in anti static bags and placed in a closet.
4. 3TB backup drive core data was backed up to 2TB drive which is stored in a closet.
5. Clones of Server & Desktop OS drives to two 2TB drives which are stored in a closet.
6. All clients are automatically backed up by the server on daily basis. That backup is also "backed up" alongside the server os. My Desktop in addition to daily backup is also weekly backed up to 2nd drive in the desktop pc itself.
So in effect in some cases I'd have to lose 3 drives before data was gone forever. In my desktop's case it would be 4 drives
Projects on GitHub, uni work on Dropbox.
Down the road when 10TB drives drop in price I plan to do another full backup of the Raid 5 array to store it offsite somewhere.
2TB hdd encrypted at a friend in case of a fire, 2TB encrupted drive for at home and unlimited google drive storage
>social media backup
what did they mean by this?
God, I just now realized that my porn/hentai collection is at 1TB+ and my video collection is at 2TB+.
I'm annoyed that I got hard drives for $50/TB 7 years ago and they're still pretty much the same price now
My backup is on a 2GB microsd card.
so what happens when your closet catches fire
I dont. I do literally nothing of value on my computer and all my asinine photos are automatically uploaded to the cumulonimbus so there's really nothing to store. My music collection has been wiped out already twice before and that's the only thing I ever have to recover.
why would it? also offsite backups are expensive.
Is a NAS worth it? I'm a poorfag but I need to back up my 8TB animu archive. I'm planning to buy a 4x2TB and just copy paste everything.
Wanted the 253B but it was 66% more. This one struggles with above 720p.
Maybe I can upgrade when the better models get cheaper.
>not using WD
are you doing this on purpose to look edgy?
1tb and 320gb external hdds, manual copies of important/not easily downloadable shit once in a while.
8gb pendrive with additional copy of most important shit.
I've got a 500 gb ssd and a 1tb external. wish i had a 1 tb sdd
Important and personal files are backed up to multiple devices, cloud services, and my VPS, totalling only a few GB. Some harder to find media is backed up to Blackblaze only, encrypted, about 500GB overall.
As for the terabytes of anime, music, TV shows, I don't care too much. A simple RAID5 is enough protection. I won't cry if I lose them all in an unlikely array rebuild failure, most of it can be redownloaded, and there's always new content coming anyway.
Buy 2x4TB 2,5" drives, they are $109 each on newegg.
I get 60-100 MB/s with mine. Easy and hassle free.
I upload everything to Google drive (no joke)
HDDs are way too expensive here in Australia
I backup to a WD 6TB through USB. I've also swapped out the HDD in my PC, and kept the data on the old drive, effectively making that a backup as well. I keep my music on a player, so I have music backed up there too.
>lost 4 years of college work by fucking around with partitions
always make sure you have your data in more than one place
...
I keep all my porn and shit on an external drive. OS, Programs, games, and shit I forget to move go on my SSD. My external never gets wiped and I disconnect when I install OSes to avoid the risk of it getting formatted.
>encrupted
encorrupted: when it all goes horribly wrong
I just backed up today. I do it like once a month with a removable internal hard drive. I have two drives and try to switch back and forth every month.
I have 2 years worth of my solo music project files, i still haven't made backups... probably should desu
Backed up into Google and Microsoft clouds.
Most important data I got on a very small network share (20GB) which gets copied every night to another server of mine. I don't have critical data that much.
Data which isn't really important but would suck still to lose and search and download again (tv series etc.) I just rsync occasionally to a HDD I got in a drawer.
Some small things are on my Jewgle Drive too. Not really used for backup purposes but to access some files anywhere, but well it kind of works backups for those few small things in case my own server and HDD fails
Shit-tier backups but well it works for me
Why would I do my own backups? The government already does it for me.
Building a NAS right now. I heard someone recommend only buying two drives at a time from the same vendor. Is there any truth to that or is it fine to order 6+ drives from the same place (eg. Amazon) at once?
sounds like fud to me
just get as many as you need for your raid needs
I have around 16TB across 8 different HDDs and I don't have a single backup solution because I keep spending money on other stuff instead of another set of HDDs to back them up
