>buying a watch from a pen maker cum tryhard junk leather goods maker that's german but everyone thinks is swiss but is not, but is now basically swiss and pretends to still make shit in germany but really it's made in romania and chinitaly because costs and richemont tricks lol
Yeah, no. Their pens aren't even that good. Just marketed prolifically, and their other accouterments (leather) may have been good at least until a decade ago. Now they're just lacking in quality. The usual cost-cutting tricks you'd expect over time from a company slaved to a larger mass conglomerate.
They do go to some creative lengths to disguise the cheapness of their bags and shit though, now that's clever, but it's still doesn't make them good.
Michael Long
When people say they don't tick, they mean that the seconds hand doesn't move in 1 second increments, but is smoother. That's not specific to Rolex watches, but to all mechanicals.

Got my Seiko Turtle (SRP775) in this Friday. I love it, its my first actually nice mechanical. Does it look too large on my 7" wrist?
Hudson Myers
Wow, someone on /wt/ with a worse camera than mine.
Looks good with the Zulu, wear it in good health :^)

Looks fine, but that retarded strap doesn't.

What are the chances of getting a reasonably regulated SNK809 Seiko 5 that I bought from skywatches? How much do you think a watch specialist would charge for regulating the movement? First auto by the way. Thanks for the rec.
Cameron Howard
Zulu or NATO strap for an everyday wear field watch? I'm leaning towards NATO as Zulu adds a bit of bulk under the wrist which would be annoying when typing.
Josiah Bennett
What do you guys think about this Orient?
Nathan Richardson
looks like a big watch. the hands are too short, the placement of the day and date show that the movement is a lot smaller than the case.
Juan Jackson
OK thanks. The diameter is 42mm, which doesn't seem to be too big. The model is Fev0u003b and I can get it new for $95. Just wondering if it's a good choice for a first Orient.
Ryan Brooks
If you think about it the Spring Drive and the Elnix are the polar opposites of each other. The SD is a mainspring driven quartz while the Elnix is a battery driven mechanical.

Are Grand Quartz a meme or are they genuinely good?
I've fallen in love with this one, it looks fantastic but then again.. i could go for a King Seiko Automatic too.

Pls rate.

Why not both?

Unfortuneately I can only afford one of them and they both come at a good price. Both are 70-80's watches branded "vintage".

Good watch, very accurate, mine only lost 7 seconds in the 6 months between adjusting for BST.
The strap is a bit stiff though so I swapped it for a Watch Gecko vintage strap, it also wears quite large as it's 40mm I think & 99% dial.
Carter Clark
No he means why can't they be both good and a meme. They are a meme for a reason, because they are good.
Owen Williams
But that's a 2nd world shitter.

It's a Carl F Bucherer Manero AutoDate. I got that info from a 30 second Google search for 'watches in John Wick 2', dickhead.
Ah sorry. Yeah when you/he put it that way. Hmm.. shit that makes it even harder for me to chose. When I said meme i thought "install gentoo lulz".

I'm a physicist. I work at a medical device manufacturing facility. I wouldn't wear it there because 1. My boss wears a Gshock, and nobody really wears flashy stuff, and I don't really like to stick out too much, and 2. I don't want to risk it getting contaminated. Normally I wear either my F-91W, gshock GW-M5610, or amphibia

This watch isn't practical to wear everyday. The dial isn't legible and the lume no longer works. What digital watch should I get for an everyday watch? G Shock maybe

$299
someone will buy it too

>What are the chances of getting a reasonably regulated SNK809 Seiko 5 It's almost always within spec, i.e. the quoted +- 25s/day or thereabouts.
What you probably want though is to achieve the 5s/day or less that you often see quoted.
Well, you can't. The issue is consistency. If you watch runs at +13s/d in the morning, -7s/d in the evening, +10s/d next morning etc., there's nothing to regulate.
To be able to regulate a movement, it has to be at a relatively consistent daily rate, be it +10s/d or 40s/d. Then you just turn a lever to offset the (consistent) error and you're done. a watch that runs consistently at +40s/d can be regulated to much greater accuracy than a watch that runs +7s/d one day and -12s/d the next.
The 7s26 movement is mass produced and robot assembled, and inherently designed for robustness and low cost, not consistency.
If you are lucky and get a consistent movement, a watchmaker can regulate it to +-10s/d or less in 5 minutes on the timegrapher.

I'm not him but I have a SARK005 which has a very similar bracelet to the SDGM. It's quite nice, made out of a lot of pieces and well finished. No microadjust, just two half links which in theory should provide sufficient adjustment unless like me you needed every single link for the thing to fit. Pin and collar, just like I assume the SARB033 you're asking about.

>why the fuck is it two hundred twenty five dollars without a movement
The daily rate in a watch changes with regards to the position it's in. So, for instance, it might be gaining +8s/d when resting face up, but lose -4s/d, when resting on the side, crown down.
So if you know your watch is gaining time, when you take it off (for the night, or whatever), you let it rest in a position that it's known to lose time, so the errors kind of cancel out roughly.
Also, many watches perform better on the wrist, exactly because these small errors cancel out.
Having it on your wrist yields another advanatge too, because it keeps fully wound, and fully wound watches perform better than when they're towards the ened of their power reserve.
So, my only advice is, just keep it on your wrist and enjoy your watch.
Ethan Brown
Why the fuck is a Tudor worth somewhere around $5,000? $299 seems reasonable price for materials/labor if it is made to the same quality. I imagine without their branding, an equivalent movement to a real Tudor Black Bay would be around $1-1.5k just materials and labor.
Jonathan Jackson
How do you know the case is of similar quality to a real tudor?
Zachary Wright
>an equivalent movement to a real Tudor Black Bay would be around $1-1.5k just materials and labor. >material and labor mate a rolex movement is ~250 in "materials an labour"
Tudor is just a cheaper Rolex
Gabriel Taylor
Thanks man! I've got a tan NATO comin' in soon enough, saw a pic and it looked like a great combo. I fitted the bracelet to my hand and it felt really nice, but I want to dress the watch down for casual use, as much as I love watches, I don't like the flashiness, I like to be under the radar as much as possible. Also >muh NATO security
Dominic Sanchez
I've heard that the spring drive is very accurate, what of the elnix (compared to another traditional mechanical in it's price range)?
