I havent heard much about T570 but the off center keyboard and size gets a no from me desu.
T470s looks alright but non removable battery (without a disassembly) with one of the ram slot being soldered just sounds like a compromise I wouldnt want to do.also there seem to be performance issues on battery But the wqhd screen does sound tempting

Panels between the two models are interchangeable. A custom bios will allow W520 to use ivy bridge processors even.
Only a few W520 will come with the good 1080p panel. Most are 900p.

You want an i7 x220 or any x230. x240 removed the expresscard slot used for eGPU. x240 and later also use 15W CPUs rather than the 35W CPUs in the previous X generations, so besides the power/heat concerns and better iGPU a more modern X-series won't have any better performance.

the x230 bios has problems with 16gb + egpu. x230 16gb without egpu is fine, but you can only have 8gb working with an egpu connected. iirc the x220 has a bios patch, but *30 models need an external programmer for bios patching.

Look, I'm not gonna defend the incomplete trackpoint and shitlet keyboard, but these things are simply irrelevant when you can stick a 45W quad core cpu with performance bigger than i7-2600k into a 12,5" laptop, plus stick 2x2,5" drives inside to get maximum space plus use 2133MHz 16GB RAM, eGPU with 95% speeds etc. These are the things that thinkpads can't handle.
