I have a friend that says this allows him to go to over 20000 deep web websited google/mozila etc don't.

>What are the advantages of using this?

If you have to ask than you probably don't have a need.

It's for securely browsing the internet with as much privacy as possible. It's also for access tor hidden services.

Let me give you a few use cases:

>Katie's marijuana plants are sick and she wants to know how to make them healthy again. Unfortunately for Katie, marijuana is ILLEGAL in her country and she doesn't want her ISP reporting her for possible criminal activity.

Katie can use TOR to bypass ISP surveillance.

>Jimmy wants to access a torrent tracker's website but torrent trackers are blocked by his ISP.

Jimmy can use TOR to bypass his ISP's black.

>Bob holds a political opinion that is being oppressed in his country. Bob wants to communicate with like minded people without fear of being tracked and persecuted for his opinions.

Bob can use TOR to communicate securely without being tracked.

>Sandy wants to take mdma at an upcoming party but doesn't try that the local dealer's 'ecstasy' is really mdma.

Sally can use TOR to access a hidden service where she can buy mdma for a peer-reviewed vendor.

etc.

Though like I said, if you have to ask, you probably don't really need it.

>What are the advantages of using this?
It's portable, and has all you need to browse the tor network.

>I have a friend that says this allows him to go to over 20000 deep web websited google/mozila etc don't.

Good luck finding anything interesting.
You'll spend hours looking at wiki's for hidden services, but later realize that you would have been better off on cleaner, or even browsing archived angelfire pages.

>Is it true

It's somewhat true. There are hidden services. You'll never find them unless you know the . onion address before browsing.

>and even if it is why would you want to go to the deep web?

Curiosity.

*cringe*

Not cringe he explained well the only cringe post is your's

you want drugs or child pornography? do you live in Venezuela or similar? no? then you don't need TOR.

doing your everyday browsing through TOR because it's 'private' is the stupidest thing you could do.

you can also circumvent government bans on websites if you live in Turkey / worst korea for example
it's also useful for people who live under an oppressive regime, like china

why

are are you

pressing return

twice?

It's pretty much for just selling/buying drugs.

Only pedos use tor, you should monitor your friend

He is crepy fellow..how i.."monitor" him?

spycams, loggers, get into his network.

tip off the FBI.

Dunno, depends on the situation, tips for fbi is a good start point.
There are NO worthwhile websites on tor that you can't find better alternative on the standard web.
If he likes browsing tor-only websites, he is most likely in some shaddy businesses.

One of the few actually helpful answers on this board

It was well explained nothing "cringey"

>What are the advantages of using this?
No advantages. Tor project is run by CIA so you can't avoid those '''law enforcement'''.

vimeo.com/137542719

>Implying TOR isnĀ“t just CIA-nigger botnet

wha?
You just said the exact oposite of everyone in the thread

It is backed by US government, though, it's not a secret or something.

CIA nigger, botnet, meme, Ryzen and PC building general

give proof
also
>mr.robot clip

See
But sure. Yell summer at the top of your lungs instead.

Unless you're living in third-world shit so even their government can't trace you because they're also dumb retards just like you,

Tor browser is not safe.

the us government & five eyes run the majority of the network, especially exit nodes
they can easily trace you through timing analysis
just use it for what is for like said and avoid pissing off the unstoppable agencies

Give literally any proof except muh CIA funding.

i think CIA funding is suspicious enough so ill listen to

literally anyone can host a TOR node and a compromise one (gov't backed) will make you visible.

how do you even circumvent that? does Tails encrypt the whole thing?

proves nothing.

>arstechnica.com/tech-policy/2014/07/report-rare-leaked-nsa-source-code-reveals-tor-servers-targeted/

Targeted. Sure. This doesn't mean they control enough nodes.

Wrong. They have to own every server in you circuit. The fact anyone can start a node makes it more anonymous not less you idiot.

The protocol itself isn't compromised but the NSA has tons of browser exploits. I would suggest wgeting a webpage through tor and then viewing it in the tor browser.

Another thing you can do is run a hardened operating system turn off JavaScript and perhaps run tor in its own VM.

Because Reddit is leaking

My exact thougths

would a VM still be necessary under Tails? I figured even exit nodes wouldn't be a problem then.

Exit nodes are always a problem. They can read all unexpected data going through them but they don't know who sent it. You don't really need a VM if your going to be using tails. Everything goes through tor so browser exploits are harder.

>Good luck finding anything interesting.
There are plenty of interesting sites, personal blogs, forums, chatsites etc. In a way tor is what the internet was in the 90's. Full of hobbyists who aren't greedy cunts that just want to make money off you.

>Targeted. Sure. This doesn't mean they control enough nodes.
This. People who say Tor is 'compromised' are typical noobs who can't even understand a perfectly clear article and just read the title.

One of the most inteligent response on this board god bless you user !

I believe you can spoof hardware in a VM

Hey, you a LEafy fan too? xD

The onion router, has a closed off DNS zone, which has one entry, and one exit point into it's DNS network. Stuff inside this network, can't be indexed, so the shit you can see on there, is definitely off the charts.

The CIA and FBI are monitoring it, by placing what I like to call "dupes" so if your traffic routes through one of em, they'll know where you've been going, and where you've been.

So fuck Murica, and god bless!

Also, you're a faggot.

read the informations on torproject.org and gtfo cunt!!

Leafy? Get out! GET THE FUCK OUT!!!

But the problem is (I don't really know if it is like this but I think so) you connect directly to the Directory Server(s), then you can be easily tracked and all can be censored easily, too. The same problem exists with Hidden Services

Yes you can go to the dank web to buy drugs or whatever other illegal shit.
It also useful if you just don't like being stalked by CIA niggers.

Except that a VPN would be a better solution to the first two (bypassing ISP). Torrents in particular you shouldn't be using Tor for to begin with.

I hate people who post this shit, spacing paragraphs predates Reddit you stupid underage fucks. Look up some threads from 2006 (before you were born) and you'll see the same style for long posts. It makes reading easier. Retard.

if i run devuan on a virtual machine using tor would be enough? im on a 3rd shit world country if that counts
