In my experience they leave you alone. I remember when I was at Boston College visiting a friend, he told me I'd have to install the college's anti-virus else I wouldn't be able to connect to the network but I just hopped on and never had a problem. They only blocked Windows and OS X, apparently if you're using Linux, you get a free pass.

You need to install bni persistent agent at my uni (which is Mac/windows only as far as I know). Since I run G/L, they let me use the network in "quarantine." In other words, they let just let me on.

Well this was like 8 years ago, maybe they changed the policy.
