>Your smart TV can't spy on you if don't connect to the internet
What's stopping them from automatically scanning for wifi networks, and attempting to connect to any unprotected ones?
>Your smart TV can't spy on you if don't connect to the internet
What's stopping them from automatically scanning for wifi networks, and attempting to connect to any unprotected ones?
>He doesn't watch TV in a Faraday cage/wrap his TV in tinfoil
Since powerline adapters are thing, wouldn't it be possible for the TV to broadcast the data across the power grid until a dedicated Samsung botnet box picks up the signal and forwards it to Samsung HQ?
>tfw you have high end non-smart Japanese TV, literally just before all TV's became smart.
Feelsgoodman
powerline is weak as fuck though
you have no idea how power adapters work do you?
In America, the TV watches you!
Powerline ethernet has very limited range and is easy to detect
>*In Soviet Russia, the TV watches you!
Who even uses TVs? I haven't even owned one in almost 10 years.
Im right now laying in my bed and shitposting here via my 48 inch Samsung TV and a wireless keyboard.
Feels comfy, dawg.
>uncle samsung
>soviet russia
If we could do that then we'd probably use powerlines for everything.
what TV?
It's possible now with smart metres
>buying a TV with a webcam
>buying a TV with hardware capable of monitoring you that's not open source
Fuck no.
I'm sire the CIA finds it very comfy to see your fat ass in bed too fagtron
Why would you buy a smart TV if you don't intend on connecting it to the internet?
Elaborate.
if it told you i would have to kill u
Because fucking everything is "smart" nowadays, even if all I want to buy is a good screen with some HDMI inputs.
it could be open source and spy on you but none of you fags would ever find out because you don't audit the code
>dude muhhh open sores
>I cant read code though I am just a tech enthusiast
This guy fucks
Data is recorded at the smart meter (a very short distance)? How fucking hard of a concept is that?
We've known this for months now retard
why does a tv need internet?
i feel old back in my day the only wireless thing on tvs were the remotes
A class action lawsuit.
It's not a smart TV, gayboi.
Some fucked up blend of 1984 and Brave New World. A camera in everything. Everything connected to the Internet. Fucking refrigerators, thermostats, washer/dryers, stoves, cars, pacemakers, insulin/medicine pumps everything is now connectable. It is crazy. McVeigh wasn't. Technology was a mistake.
Fuck off to reddit faggot.
Like they give a fuck.
>McVeigh wasn't
>get caught cause lol no driver's license and lol didn't scrape the bin number off
Mcveigh was a mongrel mongoloid
why not connect it to an access point that can't access wan?
the pajeets probably weren't smart enough to make it try checking for alternate routes if a good one is assumed
>tfw my Samsung smart TV is so old that the WiFi adapter had to be bought separately
>*In Airstrip One, the TV watches you
>believing that
9/11 also happened exactly like it was purported. Forget about the inconsistencies.
>the federals let him do it i swear
>it's 4D chess you idiot!!!
get the fuck outta here /x/ tier mongs, you're even more retarded than timmy
This is such a stupid fucking argument. It's been refuted countless times. Stop being an idiot.
He was so retarded that he bought all that explosive, assembled it, and drove it to a federal building.
better smart then sharp but wait those aquos are...
So did Breivik, an idiot who spent his days playing WoW, and without any help unlike Timmy.
Buying a gun and shooting some faggot kids is much easier than attaining all that explosive, assembling it and driving it to a federal building.
Not even an apt comparison.
You stupid? Breivik also blew up a truck filled with explosives in downtown Stockholm.
>What's stopping them from automatically scanning for wifi networks, and attempting to connect to any unprotected ones?
You going in and ripping out the wireless hardware.
>Technology was a mistake.
Technology itself isn't good nor bad. Humans were a mistake.
>SmartTV scans itself for hardware failure
>doesn't work
>humans are bad
>humans create technology
>somehow technology isn't bad
>Throw TV in trash
>Buy HDMI display and connect pic related
>buying a tv with a webcam
>watching tv
Fuck that. You know that comcast lets anyone log into your wifi with a comcast account? Remember all those memes about cell phone tower receivers hidden in stuff? Why bother when comcast will give you access everywhere for a check.
Better buy them soon and hope they don't die because their being phased out.
What is stopping you from putting a piece of tape over the webcam?
Powerline works by adding a signal and having another adapter receiving it like 20 ft away.
And even then it works like shit. They honestly shouldnt be able to sell it.
>even being alive
What the fuck are you even doing?
That is true, but smart meters have no trouble receiving data with a ton of interference. I wonder why?
Bad people can produce good things.
Things aren't good or bad, they are just things.
I've got two of these from when analog TV was replaced by digital and I needed a way to record broadcasts. Still works and they seem to last forever.
Is there really no way to just disable wireless capability on these things? Not that I doubt they don't have satellite monitoring or something.
>What's stopping them from automatically scanning for wifi networks, and attempting to connect to any unprotected ones?
Desoldering the antenna from the board.
did anyone else early adopt digital tv and remember hooking it up to cable and getting free channels?
I was referring to the displays themselves. The panels won't last or drivers won't be around forever.
Good taste in anime, user.
See
Actually the best way may be to connect it to your home wireless network and then use the router firewall software to block all of its Internet access.
It shouldn't go hopping networks once it is connected to one, even if it has no Internet access on that network if you have specifically connected it to that network.
I thought all humans were bad? If so, why are there bad people? Should it not just be people?
What has a bad person produced that was good?
It won't be able to detect that, it just won't be able to pick up any wireless networks. It would be no different from just not being in range of any networks (technically that is the case, antenna just increases the range).
>expecting it to behave benevolently
don't buy smart shit in the first place dumb fucks
I've got a samsung 65" smart tv. To be honest I don't use any of the so called smart features. Now it's main selling point other than having a damn good picture is it's built in Ethernet/DNLA/Wifi capabilities so if my WDTV Live (had already from older hd set that shit itself) ever dies well I don't gotta replace it. I don't got a blu-ray player. I still use my sony DVD player for the occasional disc. Really no point for blu-ray player now. If I want a film I'll buy the dvd and rip it or I'll just head to my local torrent site a day or two after it comes out.
Why would it not be able to detect that? That would easy to implement. Adding a single wire easy.
Panels and their drivers don't last forever. They will eventually die and then you only have the option of a SmartTV.
>I thought all humans were bad? If so, why are there bad people? Should it not just be people?
Well, the world isn't just black or white. Some people are bad, some aren't. Some people use things to do bad thing, some others use things to do good things. But things remain things, they are are neither good nor bad.
>What has a bad person produced that was good?
Nazis did a lot of fucked up experimentations on prisonners that gave us a lot of knowledge in medicine.
All the Wi-Fi near me is locked.
Don't connect your TV to your network?
Then just bridge the two sides of the antenna as short as possible.
buy a monitor.
Humans weren't a mistake then?
HIV is a thing. Is it good?
>Nazis
Every medical community has done "fucked up" experiments.
You can detect how long it takes for for a circuit to complete.
>having an unprotected wifi in the first place
You deserve to be spied on 2bh
HIV is good.
Medicating HIV and AIDS is bad.
AIDS is a gift from God that allows the natural cleansing of homosexuals and blacks.
They already own your computer's hardware, but surely the monitors will be safe.
/thread
Are there 50" monitors yet?
The alternative would be to buy a projector although visibility would be shit in bright rooms.
For you. Not the manufacturers.
Yes, just connect it to a power source and the data can be read from there.
>sensationalist headline
if you read the details, to get the spyware on the smart TV required physically access to the tv using a USB drive to get the spyware payload onto the tv.
But it guess its just easier and say that every smart tv spies on you instead and sends back pictures of you sitting in your underwear in front of it back to the NSA
It's not just your network you have to worry about though, it's also your neighbors. Maybe even local businesses too if you live near to any.
Polio?
Polio is a gift from God as well?
The fact that I shouldn't have to protect myself from spying from a product I already paid for?
You guys still watch the electric jew?
You mean the exploit affects me even if it's others have an unsecured wifi? What the fuck.
So, you could potentially drive around with your own (unsecured on purpose) portable wifi hotspot and spy on people?
>electric jew
No that's the utility company
Nothing, I've posted this same idea many times and been shouted down for it.
DO NOT buy a smart TV.
Yes, buy a Large Format display.
Also some Korean manufacturers use TV panels for 'monitors' WasabiMango has a 49" with 4K and FreeSync...
> tfw non-smart TVs cost more in catalogues than smart TVs because they're 'rarer now'
>> tfw non-smart TVs cost more in catalogues than smart TVs because they're
subsidized by the three-letter agencies.
>implying the malicious code isn't already there for them
The spying payload for regular hackers who infect the files for removable media.
All everyone does in their living room is sit in their underwear. Nothing illegal ever happens in the main rooms of homes.
I'm in Australia, ours has four letters. Probably similar sort of shenanigans though.
Although ours are likely too busy figuring out how to let more fucking immigrants in to spy on us.
kind of blown out of proportion since only like 2 models of samsung tvs even came with a webcam at that time
