A good majority of Sup Forums unironically use VLC as their default media player

It works so why not op you fat nigger.

what does your mpv.conf look like OP?

it doesn't work well with anything on a DVD i get the crappiest quality possible and somehow wmp does better

>Used to rice desktop, use MPC-HC and foobar
>Hours to pick out themes and hack DLLs
>Hours of research to get the right filters, etc set up
>Hours to manually make layouts which looked "good"

Honestly VLC just works.

But name a better libre media player for Android.

man i hate this website.

Fuck you guys
I use vlc to listen music with my wangblows 7

>dvd
That's your fault for using obsolete hardware

MPC and Foobar are just as good as VLC out of the box. You don't have to rice a damn thing if you don't want to.

>tfw it keeps opening off screen for some reason when I start playing videos

faggot whats wrong with VLC?mhm i use both VLC and ElmediaPlayer

I use VLC for encoding. is that ok?

this

why would I want to deband?

8-bit anime

you mean 10bit?

10-bit has no banding

Which one should I use then?
Don't come with this geek media players taht work through terminal, I'm using windows.

Is there an actually decent front-end for MPV on Windows? I use GNOME MPV on my Linux machine, but I can't find anything as slick on Windows.

What more do you need other than the OSD?

You mean the native interface? It's really glitchy for one. If you are scrubbing through the video a lot (clicking on the timeline), sometimes it fails to appear when you mouse over, and then appears after you move your mouse back out of the window.

bump

Never happened here. Just tested it a bunch as well. Just keep scrubbing bound to mouse wheel either ways.

Yes it uses FFMPEG. But why not Handbrake instead if just for encoding?

Who the fuck uses VLC by default in Linux?

free software and also works 88.888% of the time. I do recommend everyone install a backup player just for those times that vlc fails however

That's a viable work-around. Still doesn't really answer my question though.

for some reason it doesnt start :(
Im on Lubuntu 16.04

Run it from the commandline, and see what errors come up. You're probably missing a library or something.

Are u retarded?

>he doesn't upscale to 4k using ewa_lanczossharp

I use mpv, but vlc >just werkz so I usually recommend it to less technical people. Most of the weird artifacts autists have been posting for years aren't really a problem with the newer versions.

I run all my programs from the command line;

:~$ handbrake-gtk
Segmentation fault (core dumped)

Not very helpful...

:~$ handbrake --debug
Segmentation fault (core dumped)

There is literally no reason for anybody to use anything to play videos other than MPC-HC, without any codec packs.

>sudo apt-get install mpc-hc
>Reading package lists... Done
>Building dependency tree
>Reading state information... Done
>E: Unable to locate package mpc-hc

thats all the reason i need right there

>Watching movies on a phone

Found the nu-male faggot.

i have since the mid 2000's when it was cool. why change if it literally plays every media file? also, great icon

>DVD
Well it doesn't work with my VHS Rugrats collection so it has to be shit

If you're using Linux, you're so far beyond gone that you're not even worth worrying about. Use VLC. Or mpv. Or whatever. Who cares.

Both Windows and macOS come with every codec you need, and hardware support for them should work out of the box, or after installing the appropriate graphics drivers. The same applies to those with phones, tablets, set top boxes, most commercial media streaming devices, whatever.

fuck your fancy looking media players, VLC doesn't need style because it's a swiss army knife compared to most audio players.

does it still not have vsync enabled by default?

is it still incapable of automatically detecting when it should scale the color gamut from 16-235 to 0-255?

does it still massively fuck up sound on anything other than normal-ass computer speakers?

do you still have to turn on GPU decoding by hand? does it actually fucking work?

does it still fuck up 3:2 pulldown

does it still cock up colorspace conversions?

if you've never actually considered any of these questions, there's one more question - why do you not care if the video you're watching actually looks as intended?
