Windows 7 is still secure if you apply the right updates. Make a fresh install and use simplix update pack from OSZone to install needed updates.
Don't ever think of installing W10.
10 is fine don't be a pussy
I'd just like to interject for a moment. What you're referring to as Linux,
is in fact, GNU/Linux, or as I've recently taken to calling it, GNU plus Linux.
Linux is not an operating system unto itself, but rather another free component
of a fully functioning GNU system made useful by the GNU corelibs, shell
utilities and vital system components comprising a full OS as defined by POSIX.
Many computer users run a modified version of the GNU system every day,
without realizing it. Through a peculiar turn of events, the version of GNU
which is widely used today is often called "Linux", and many of its users are
not aware that it is basically the GNU system, developed by the GNU Project.
There really is a Linux, and these people are using it, but it is just a
part of the system they use. Linux is the kernel: the program in the system
that allocates the machine's resources to the other programs that you run.
The kernel is an essential part of an operating system, but useless by itself;
it can only function in the context of a complete operating system. Linux is
normally used in combination with the GNU operating system: the whole system
is basically GNU with Linux added, or GNU/Linux. All the so-called "Linux"
distributions are really distributions of GNU/Linux.
Games will stop supporting 7 eventually. Best to get used to the cock slow and easy now rather than have it jammed through your rectum like a bullet train later.
install 10 and disable all spyware services and tasks by hand, that's enough
However, updates may reenable them so it should be scripted to not recheck manually each time.
Use a linux distro for your main OS, dual boot windows 10 for

Dual boot Windows 10 LTSB for gaming and GNU/Linux for everything else.

Windows has always been garbage OP, but windows 10 especially so.
Windows 10 go out of it's way to take power away from the user by disallowing even the simplest tasks like disabling updates.
The operating system also displays annoying nags when you try to run unsigned software from the internet. Masked as a "security" feature, Microsoft obviously do this to incentize you to use their app store.
Apps for windows 10 don't even allow the developer full control over the operating system. Instead forcing them to run their app in a restrictive sandbox and forcing them to meet Microsoft guidelines or not be allowed to publish. Not to mention giving Microsoft a cut of their dollars.
To recap:
>windows 10 collects all kinds of data about you and doesn't let you opt out.
>windows 10 forces advertisements into your operating system.
>windows 10 disincentivizes the use of non- "Universal Windows Platform apps"
>Windows 10 makes everything big, chunky and square so you can run it on a tablet
>Windows 10 tries to lock developers out of native API calls
It's literally like giving your computer to Microsoft and saying "hey guys lock me out of everything and force me to do whatever you want."
It's an absolute disgrace.
THIS is what happens when people support non-free software OP.
Anyway I suggest you give up video games and get some adult hobbies. Life is a full of adventures just waiting to be had if you don't bury yourself away in other people's fantasies.
But if you really insist on playing games than you have some options:
1. Have a separate windows computer that you play games on giving it minimal access to your network/data
2. Dual boot Windows
3. Use windows 7 but disable updates and only apply the updates that you feel necessary.
Don't even bother using windows 10. It's always impossible to fully strip all the malware from the system as it's designed from the ground up to take control away from the user. It's essentially the antithesis of free software.
"install 10 and disable all spyware services and tasks by hand, that's enough"
Im using windows 10. Its fine for games.
Botnet is fine. I even installed google chrome.
Botnet is a meme.
If you only need it for games you can use Windows offline.
inb4 Steam, Origin, Uplay... just don't use that shit. Either pirate or buy from gog.
I'm going for a dual boot then.
I'm all for supporting FOSS and privacy. Gaming is simply something I do, and the current games I play are not supported enough on anything but Windows.
With as much tweaking that can be done on either Windows 7 or 10, which one would be best for gaming (online included)?
Install Ubuntu in another partition and forget about it for the rest of your life.
I get more fps in CSGO in 7 than in 10.
taskschd.msc
services.msc
Thank me later. Thankfully MS included pretty straightforward description so you should disable everything what collects any kind of data.
You should stop lying on the Internet.
>To recap:
>Wall of idiocy
You have no idea what are you talking about, do you?
Did you try wine? Works on nearly everything I usually play.
I haven't tried it yet, but according to videos testing titles like Overwatch and Doom, it seems to have some pretty bad compability issues
Doom is supposed to work very good on wine, basically windows performance levels -5%. Overwatch I don't know, but you should try, also look it up in the wine database.
Install 7. Only install security updates, but skip the "roundup" updates.
>remove media player
>32 megabytes less

>I'm going for a dual boot then
I'll give you two weeks at most until you'll ditch the idea.
Sounds good but killing your workflow by rebooting so you can open your games for a while and then killing it again so you can work/shitpost/whatever becomes increasingly annoying.
Use 7 and update it with Simplix pack or WSUS offline.

You don't have to deal with this crap if you use Simplix pack.
OP, I was in your shoes almost a year ago. I made myself a band spanking PC and was growing in concern about the rising trend in telemetry and vulnerabilities.
I installed Linux on my PC and Win10 on a VM. Sure, I lose some CPU power, but I use GPU passthrough and it works amazingly well.
It's a bitch to setup, you have to do a lot a fucking around and your PC might not even be compatible with this kind of setup, but nothing beats it in my eyes. Sure, Win10 still phones home, but if you keep it only for gaymen and the ocasional docx file, you're golden.
Dual booting is a scam, nobody wants to wait 1-5 min. just to edit a .psd file or play a quick match of whatever, before you know it, you'll stop booting into Linux and just give up. To add to that, you're trusting Windows with your bare metal. If I ever get into a fit of autistic rage, I can just wipe the virtual machine and be done with it. Dual-booting leaves your machine fucked unless you install to different physical drives.
windows 10 is a piece of trash, just installed it for fun to see how bad it really is, its a malignant tumor of a system, it boots way longer than any other OS I have including win7, also it comes with so much bloatware and spyware its unbeliavable, they actually force you to agree that they can collect any kind of information on the system including personal info, and if you dont agree you cant install the system
Win 10 bypasses the host file and it'll still send data out.
all I do on my desktop is play WoW and shitpost.. I have the ultimate comfy Win7 install with classic theme.. I kinda hope some megacorp(s) strongarm microshaft into extending "extended" support for 7 until like 2025 at least...
fucking hate everything after 7, and if I'm going to "upgrade" from 7 I might as well go straight to 10 instead of another dead/soon to be dead version.
plus I'm likely to upgrade to the fastest low core high clock gaymen CPU pretty soon because WoW is still an absolute pig disgusting in that dept.
I think the main point is that we shouldn't have to fight the os like this in the first place. Yes we can do all these things but it's a constant battle because they will keep finding ways to hide things.
>don't be a pussy
This is not something that should have to be said with regards to installing an operating system. Your OS a shit.
This. Pic related, weenies.
The botnet is the games moron!
Valid point. However, Wine or VM doesn't come close to native Windows gaming performance (and compability) yet.
Thanks for the help anons
This is the only real answer
What CPU/Graphics card do you have, and how much performance difference are we talking about (in which games)?
pfft security. what a bunch of shit. Im on out of the box windows 7 without a single update and have been since 2009. Not a problem. I reckon its a scam.
Just install 7 and a couple of patches if you want.
I'm still running unpatched W7 SP1 because of gaymes, ms office and adobe shit without issues whatsoever, everything clean according to the monthly malwarebytes scan even after all the ransomware shit meme stuff. You just need to activate EMET, a good whitelist firewall and fucking common sense that nobody has.
LTSB here. I literally do not have this problem.
yep, I too havent updated in ages, if you have common sense and know some shit then its really not a problem
That's what you think.
If you have anything newer than a Core 2 CPU than you might as well use Windows 10 since you have hardware backdoors anyways.
THIS
don't be a pussy OP
Use linux for your general computing and Win 10 exclusively for gaming and whatever one program you can't find a substitute for.
I don't care if MS spies on muh videogames.
The only benefit I'm aware of that Win 10 has over 7 is DX12.
DX12 and Vulcan are the new, future API's that games will use and they are both great.
Vulcan works on Win7 and Win10, DX12 is only for Win10.
Email game devs and your state senator urging them to use Vulcan instead of DX12 because you do not support Win10 and it's terrible practices.
Until major games you love come out ONLY in DX12 (most games will be DX11 backwards compatible for a while) then you can comfortably game on Win7.
Just install Linux and get a console for your gaymes. All PC gets is ports and ASSFAGGOTS, and with the last usable Windows getting phased out it's only going to get worse.
>vulnerability w/o telemetry updates win 7
That is microshit propaganda. I have Win7 with zero updates past SP1 and I've never had problems. I didn't alter my browsing habits at all and I didn't get hit with that ransomware thing that happened.
Linux + wine, your computer can do it unless youre a poorfag
Get W10 Pro, disable as much of 'muh scary botnet' features as possible (delve into registry if you have to) and deal
Pro is just as cucked as Home. The only version of Windows 10 I'd use is Windows Server 2016
I installed SteamOS and it was horrible. Instead of 90 fps(windows) i got 30. Tried that few years ago with ubuntu with same result.
Yes you do, user. Yes you do.
You can't turn it off. Even if there is an option to turn it """off""" it actually doesn't do anything. How do you not know this?
See and install gentoo
>Adult hobbies
LIke? Going outdoors is a meme where I live
Thanks user, I'm never using DX12 as long as I live
I found the pussy guys!
>Oh my god i hate windows 10 now.
Windows 10 is the best operating system microsoft has ever produced. You faggots are in for a treat when Linus decides to stop supporting Linux and comes to work at microsoft.
t. microsoft technical support employee.
...
You don't even need to do that really, dx12 is digging its own grave by just being garbage. I still get more fps in ROTR with dx11 maxed out settings even after this new patch.
How much do they pay you Rajeesh?
You are a retard spouting lies while trying to give life advice to some poor dude that just wants to know whether to use w10.
You can absolutely turn off automatic updates.
Read on Microsoft website what level 1 telemetry actually entails. Take off your tinfoil hat. Jesus Christ

Windows 10 is literally the ugliest Windows there have been, that alone is reason not to use it. Choose 7 or 8.
Yeah call me silly but I do prefer the aero and other 3d kinda looks to the boring flatness everyone wants to use now. I mean maybe it makes sense on battery devices to save on rendering but I have this thing called a "graphics card" inside my desktop, let me utilize it.
I prefer to use my card for games and CAD
> I do prefer the aero and other 3d kinda looks to the boring flatness everyone wants to use now
Exactly what I meant.
Well that too but I'm just saying nothing wrong with taking advantage of it in the interface as well it's not like aero uses up much of it to effect your games much if at all or you can just set the game to disable aero on launch.
Microsoft has proven with Windows 8 that their UI design team has been replaced by literal monkeys. Windows 2000 had the best UI out of all the iterations of the operating system, with consistent icons and menus everywhere. Windows 7 comes close, and although there are some legacy icons left over the UI is consistent and professionally-designed for the most part. 8 started the trend of half-metro half-aero, and 10 is a clusterfuck of shit made in PowerPoint by underpaid interns.
>Windows 10 is the best operating system microsoft has ever produced.
I genuinely think this way, actually.
-Backward compatibility while isn't perfect is leagues above 98>XP or XP>7 transitions;
-Hardware recognition actually works for almost everything;
-WSL gives access to various GNU stuff that I use for work;
-Crashes, freezes, and BSoDs are almost non-existent;
-Even boot times are faster.
Not everything is perfect, and I have a few bones to pick with Win10, but overall experience I've been having with it for over a year already is quite positive.
Agreed.
>crashes, freezes, and BSoDs are almost non-existent
I'm a developer and it crashes every week for me
I like using Linux and gaming on Linux, but i just kept running into too many issues running shit over wine.
I just use wangblows 10 and disable all the telemetry because my time is not worth fucking around every time I want to use a new application.
Game on your Windows 10 desktop rig
Do everything else on a cheap linux laptop.
Best of both worlds and honestly not all that expensive.
but that's the lunix experience (tm)
Who really has time for this honestly, it's a fucking mess and it fucking sucks when I need to use an application that doesn't have linux support i absolutely dread trying to get it working.
The reason there is not Linux adoption on the scale of Winblows is because it just DOESN't fucking werk.
Using 7 SP1 with not a single update installed, it helps to not be a dumb fuck
It also helps to have a firewall. You know, the kind inside almost every router. Home users are already under excellent protection, as long as you don't download sexvideo.avi.exe and use adblock you're better off than most corporate customers.
is this supposed to be a poem or something
>he prefers being spied on so he can play his good goy distractions
Almost every good game works just fine on Linux or through Wine, and only a few require you to compile them yourself, like Cataclysm DDA.
>it's okay if they spy on me, they let me change some options
You're such a fucking faggot.
You CAN'T disable all telemetry, that's the point. You can disable some or most of it, but it's impossible to completely shut it down, it's built into the OS itself.
>just compile them yourself! :o)
>just build and optimize the game yourself
>with no sli
>and when you try to use your second GPU everything fucks up and flickers acting weirdly
>games with enthusiastic and official loonix support still run like shit compared to windows (8.1) on the same hardware
hmmmm
>built into the OS itself
At the kernel level. It's what allows it to bypass hosts and even establish reverse connections to get past external firewalls.
If you're that concerned about muh games then just have a dual boot, with windows for games and linux for everything else.
>The operating system also displays annoying nags when you try to run unsigned software from the internet. Masked as a "security" feature, Microsoft obviously do this to incentize you to use their app store.
It's been there since fucking Vista.
>is 7 even better than 10 aside from less bloatware and spyware?
No. 10 is far smoother and snappier
>linux totally works for gaming guys
>it all runs just as good as Windows!
>flickering and shit performance abound
>uh, well just dual boot windows for gaming whatever
I bet if I pressed this you would call me a fag and manchild for playing video games (which I hardly do anymore). I seriously seen some linux gaming channel trying to prove that linux is just as good for gaming yet even in his fucking video the screen was flickering due to SLI or something. "Yeah, uh, I don't know why that happens heheh...."
And? It's still bullshit. Microsoft has embraced everything I hated about Apple.
lolno, quite the opposite.
Are you stupid or what? I straight up said Linux isn't as good for gaming as Windows, and if that's an issue you should set up a dual boot. It's not hard to do.
Windows 10 ltsb is faster than any version of Windows 7
You can play most games just fine on Linux, it's only newer shit that has issues sometimes.
