In the south it's not unusual to have multi generational homes, where grandparents, parents and kids all live together and share the household. Kicking your child out of the house is also seen as a pretty extreme and heartless move.

But this is not the case at all. Most live at home until 20. And most aren't kicked out, they WANT to move away by then, because they want independence, privacy, experience something more than just their home town.

Here are two english unbiased sources that state the kids showed no marks, bruises, anything. They were not neglected and Bernevernet took them for litterally a light spanking because a kid did some dumb shit, for this they dragged the kids crying and separated them from their parents who very much loved them.
