>have only got offers from IT places
>degree becoming more worthless by the day and slowly running out of savings

What if you have no choice?

Should have gotten something practical like a philosophy degree, retard.

...

I would rather be bored out my mind and hate the person next to me than go back to retail

>cubicle

Lucky, try an open office with two retards talking 24/7 sitting right across.

This. Holy hell is it a nightmare. This open meme can't end soon enough

>tfw got hired as forklift operator in manufacturing
>unload a couple trailers in the morning then shitpost on Sup Forums the rest of the day
living the dream lads

This sinyor.

> smallish open office
> designated secret indoor smoking area where all staff including asshole president smoke illegally
> constant smoking (by the time one finishes, another would have arrived) that makes your eyes tear up
> don't smoke
> develop slight (hopefully non-serious) constant cough
> they know, but continue anyway
> too much of a faggot to report them

Just buy earplugs, dumb frog poster user.

But you also get paid shit. Do you need a cert to operate it where you are?

Everything sucks.

I work construction in the hot sun all day and not a day goes by I don't day dream about a cubicle in an air conditioned building.

>open office
AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

Holy fuck yesterday morning was so ridiculously loud I had to stuff in some ear phones and crank up some heavy metal because I literally could not hear myself think or concentrate.

Open plan can work provided you've got shit loads of space, but where I am where there is zero space and everyone is crammed together like a chicken coop which is also a phone/contact center is goddamn torture.

Why haven't you moved into the comms room retard?

Call corporate and report them. They will put a stop to that right quick.

It won't end, because the world is run by shameless narcissists who don't feel self conscious, and cubicles cost money. Get used to it.

No certs required, I'm just doing it as a summer job to get myself through uni. The pay isn't too bad for a student job

I really wonder about people that smoke that much. I have an adderall prescription, love coffee and could have sworn I would love nicotine, but it seriously is shit to me. I never understand the appeal....guess it's a brain chemistry thing

That's not an option. Even ignoring the fact that I'm a fucking coward who doesn't act even when his health is literally being destroyed, they're too well-connected - both at work and with the local gov - for me to escape repercussions.

These guys (without the asshole president) decided to destroy the career of a new hire on a whim, and they fucking succeeded. I was there the whole time so I know how it really went down. One of them called in a favor from his friend. The way that poor guy was treated his last few days was dehumanizing in every sense of the word. Not only from those assholes, but from everyone else who just stood there and didn't help because they didn't want to get on the assholes' bad side. This includes myself. The guilt eats me up every time I think about it.

I don't want attention, user. I don't think I'll be able to handle it.

Also, we've had surprise inspections before.

They get tipped off before hand. They usually lock off the room (once or twice with my work equipment still inside). Since it's officially a unused storage room. It doesn't get inspected.

I wouldn't even be surprised if the inspector was the one calling them.

Change jobs yo, I know it's not easy but it's generally the only option... you cannot change a company from within.

did you consider videoevidence + anonymous tip?
i mean it´s surely not like you are the only dissatisfied person there

I'm the only one in that room who isn't a part of their group. They'll know it's me.

They also have access to security camera footage.

> Anonymous
Anonymous tips are not anonymous. The complaint along with who made it get sent to the president. One of the perks of the smoke room I suppose.

It's a "dream" job. My parents and family keep telling me again and again how lucky I am to have landed a job like this, especially given my shaky employment history and education level, and they're right. The pay, work loads/hours, and location are absurdly good for a person with my qualifications.

I the jobs that are waiting for me if I left are 1/4 the pay and with none of the other benefits. I'd also have a hard time explaining why I left to my parents. I've put them through so much already and don't want them to disappoint them again.

I do fantasize about quiting though.

>work as electrician creating long ass harnesses
>everyone else in my area is asian
>dear fuck its like a Chinese restaurant
They even take goddamn calls from their relatives from god knows where in the middle of working so all I hear is ching chong back and forth constantly

Get a particulate filter mask. You can filter out the smoke instead of breathing it in.

>I'd also have a hard time explaining why I left to my parents. I've put them through so much already and don't want them to disappoint them again.

You're pathetic. Parents exist to be exploited and then discarded when you don't need them anymore. Tell me, do you live to make yourself happy or to make your parents happy?

You make me sick.

>tfw can work from home

I thought you needed a license to operate one of those?

He's either in a third-world country, or the company just doesn't give a fuck about the law.

Or the lifting height is very limited.

No need. I try to spend as little time in that room as humanly possible, and schedule my work to coincide with the time the room is being used the most. Some of the assholes seem offended when I walk out, but I'll just end up in coughing loop if I don't. Luckily, the ones I'm stuck with don't seem to care.

I've already ruined everything in my life. I'm stuck in dead-end job. I have no social life and no friends. I haven't been in contact with most of my family including my siblings for years. I have lost interest in all my hobbies. In fact I've lost interest in everything. I can't even manage to finish watching a movie or even a youtube video. Everything is bland. Even porn isn't interesting anymore.

So to answer your question, my parents and, to a lesser extent, my job are the main reasons I'm still alive. I get to loose myself in my work, and I can keep my parents happy. I just have to keep this up until they die.

I'm sorry if that makes you sick.

Nope
I'm Canadian. I'm sure there's some sort of law that says you have to be trained to use one, but you don't need any sort of government issued licence. You don't even need a drivers licence.

>Parents exist to be exploited and then discarded when you don't need them anymore

OCH THE EDGE

One bad personal experience does not make the entire sector bad.

There are other, better jobs out there for you, user. Stay as long as you can, get as much experience as you can, and if the job does not change for the better, you can leave when you have the opportunity.

I'm sorry to hear things are like that for you user. It sounds like to me that you need to talk to your parents how you feel - You don't want that, your parents don't want that, I don't want that. You don't have to suffer. You don't have to be trapped.

I know it sounds kind of douchy, but maybe you might want to try traveling for a bit. Go somewhere totally different from your world! I have a cousin who might have been in a similar position. He saved his money, left his job and traveled for several months across south east asian alone - he met all sorts of people and made great friends.

Thank you for being kind enough to hear me out user.

Could be doing worse for $25 an hour m8.

That's alright, but consider it. Take a week somewhere totally different.

It's unbelievably cheap over there in SEA - it won't cost you an arm and/or a leg.

>It's unbelievably cheap over there in SEA
Can confirm, am living in SEA. If you eat street hawker food, it is $1 for a meal. Renting a cheap apartment is USD$150/month.

W-what about Singapore?

Singapore to SEA is like Japan and Korea to the rest of Asia.

Technically, SEA. Much closer to Yurop in lifestyle and prices.

>much closer
No, my bad. Much more expensive. Most expensive in the world.

cbsnews.com/news/the-most-expensive-cities-in-the-world-in-2017-are-mostly-in-asia/
>Singapore remains the world’s most expensive city to live in

S-sorry, I was merely memeing.

Start smoking, play golf with his buddy's, shit talk him, get him fired.
>Problem solved

I used to work in an open workspace, the image attached looked very similar (but all open workspaces look similar to a certain extent).

Depending on your situation, in my case, the manager seemed to like to constantly monitor everybody. In fact, the whole team can monitor you.

I may start an open office workspace general thread. Who's with me?

I worked from home for about 2 years. Occasionally from my satellite office just because. The experience gradually lost its glow to me, being detached from your coworkers and also the management. The saying goes, "out of sight, out of mind." I won't be doing that again.

Believe or not, I don't give a fuck.
>tfw ot hired as an IT in a manufacturing company.
>few months in
>90% work from home
>major corp literally paying me for study & Sup Forums
for those looking for a career on said field, do you research before judging it.

You're allowing your skills and brain to atrophy. Literally your brain will become warmbiered and you'll end up a vegetable. Don't be that guy.

I work nightshift looking at this thing (CNC machine) for 10 hours a shift, easy job once you learn it but it's pretty repetitive. I like it when something goes wrong so I get to use my problem solving skills.

What do you (watch the machine) make?

This is how I stop people jumping on my gravy train too!

So many feels

Mostly kitchen/laundry/bathroom cabinets but I've done lots of architectural stuff like you see in shopping centres and lots of perferrated sound proofing walls and ceilings in hospitals, airports, universitys and stuff.

This picture doesn't really show the full scale of this building, but I think I've been cutting the panels out for it for at least 2 years, still got at least another year to go on this project.

That image looks like heaven, I just grabbed this off Google but imagine this kind of desk except the banks of them are so close people are literally back to back.

>finally get a job in IT
>I do nothing except reset a server maybe once or twice a day

Wow I wasn't expecting this

why do white people treat their parents like shit? this sort of behaviour is standard practice among white Americans.

Looks like some kind of modern typing pool

I work in a small open office && my only gripe is that since I am an intern I dont have a proper desk or computer. I have to use a shitty laptop and sit next to the printer. It's easy work, I am just auditing code all day. My first 'real' job.
>got the job despite having no prior work experience or qualifications.
I am a math major so my only programming experience is python using numpy and matplotlib.

It's funny how you can replace "intern" with "cuck" and it works just as well.

>>not a day goes by without thinking about killing myself and this bitch in the next cubicle
in that order?

>in that order?
Why not? It's certainly doable.

What does she and i that is this annoying?

>cuckolding is on my mind 24/7
stop browsing Sup Forums

You don't. I worked in an autozone warehouse for half a year and learned to use every lifting machinery you can imagine in a warehouse.

They do their own internal drivers tests for each machine, but it's nothing required by law.

teach, what education/certifications/experience did you have before landing that job?

>the manager seemed to like to constantly monitor everybody

How is that a bad thing? Do your fucking job.

>Boring ass job
>coworkers hate their jobs
>constantly being monitored
>Any stray thought (creativity) you have is looked down upon

is.. is this what people want..?

>an cuck
Gotcha there bucko :^)

it's a brain chemistry thing
cigarettes tastes like shit but after a year of nicotine I got used to it and it releases stress

There's a difference between a slave-driver and a manager, which you would be aware of if you had ever worked anything beyond a no-skill entry level job.

...

/biz/ is nothing but threads about crypto currency

> Parents exist to be exploited and then discarded when you don't need them anymore

Can you play spot the sociopath?

I used to work IT in a medium sized JIT factory. It was constant screaming at me to go run to places and fix stupid shit (like operators unplugging printers and computers). Everyone was always getting heated at one another and at me.

The only real IT disaster we ever had was when the 8 year old switches on the plant floor died, which took me all night to get back running since you had to use a fucking bucket lift to get to them.

That job was fucking terrible because of everyone being screaming lunatics. I would get called outside of work all the time and screamed at because someone unplugged something or hit a computer with a torque tool.

>Got hired as a biomedical scientist at a big academic hospital
>Professor is super kind. We come up with sound experiments together
>I get to work out the details. Problem-solving skills level up like crazy
>Not very rewarding work, but extremely varied
>Get to learn (animal) surgery techniques, operating advanced machinery such as MRI/CT scanners, learn lab techniques I couldn't even dream of
>Get to publish the research in good journals, I'm first author several times
>Amazing colleagues, everyone is MSc, PhD or postdoc
>Need any help? These people will jump through fires to help you

IT is a joke.

I'm so fucking glad I didn't fall for the itcuck meme
>fell for the pharmacy meme instead
>150k in loans

This.

Set up in comm closet or server room, or just get some noise cancelling headphones.

Shit's stressful, and not only when you slack off, but also when you do your work.
Seriously, fuck open offices. We are already cramped at mine, so I got a desk next to a wall. The only thing I see a white wall behind my screens, a wall to my side. Basically you are not aware of your surroundings, and everyone can look at your screen. Not to mention, that all the noise in the office is distracting. We have only technical people, so no one is constantly talking, but you can hear everyone tapping at their keyboards, some have open headphones, so you clearly hear what music they listen to. I use IEMs, and it already happened to me few times, that I have been focused on something, and didn't notice when someone literally came up to my desk. At least twice it have been my manager.

I mean that's great and all, but performing surgery on animals and operating an MRI machine doesn't exactly sound like my cup of tea.

I think most people here are doing customer-support level IT, and that's why they hate it. I would an hero too if I had to deal with incompetent users blaming me for failures on their part.

>Im going to judge an entire field by my shitty experience from my first job
okay kid

Well, as I understand it it feels like shit, but chemically hooks you, and then the lack of nicotin makes smoking "worth it" emotionally. But it still feels like shit.

I don't smoke so can't say for sure.

Recent graduate with BS Chemical Engineering. I didn't get any internship or relevant work experience so nobody will hire me for anything engineering related.
Where can I find some shitty coding job? I don't care how shit it is, I need just SOMETHING otherwise I'm getting kicked out and will have to join the military.

Why don't you look for internships in something related to your education? That's how I got my first job, by applying to an internship offer.

>implying commissioning as an officer is not the right choice
Do you want to make money and have a full retirement at 20 years?

DUI 4 years ago, can't get it waived.

Keep applying. I was in that same situation and finally found my shitty code-monkey job.

>hey guys, i think i have light astma could you not smoke in the room next to my desk
if this doesn't work
>would it be possible for me to move to the other side of the office
if neither of these work just leave and don't look back, tell parents you were harassed or some shit

Yeah, it wasn't too bad in retrospect. Partly because the office wasn't crammed full of engineers.

>I think most people here are doing customer-support level IT

You see, people claim that their job and their private life is separate, but the reality is that it's not. If you feel miserable at the end of the day, it is likely because of your job

>IEMs
Enjoy your tinnitus

...

Aren't you the guy that posted in Sup Forums and complained about STEM being a meme?

You remind me of my internship.
>1 big office, 6 idiots and me
>one is an adhd faggot that can't stop fidgeting
>one feels the need to fuck everyone's ears up with hardstyle
>two others never ever shut the fuck up
>one can't stop moping around all over the place
>seniorfag basically in a position to stare everyone in the back 24/7
>every day is basically trying to think while fidgetfuck and powermoper can't stop being fidgetty fucks, while aunt&aunt and hardstylecunt compete over who can be the louder bunch, while some self-entitled narcissist spends more time looking at my screen than his own screen
>for six fucking months

That was not a productive environment, that's for sure.

Report them anonymously, numb nuts. You don't have to attach your name to it. Set up a bogus email account or call corporate from a dummy/burner phone and be done with it.

RIP

As some other anons this is something you should be fighting. Definitely get video evidence of it happening regardless, You'll need it in case of unfair dismissall.

Then ask for a quick meeting with your boss. Just bring up the issue with him, you don't really need to go into excuses or whatnot, just say you don't like working in that enviroment with people smoking around you. Have your own solution though, ask if you can move to a different room or a proper designated smoking area for the fuckers.

Again get evidence of the meeting. If your boss ignores you or tells you to fuck off send it up the chain and make is official. Sure they can make your life shitty at the job, but keep gathering evidence to show them miss treating you and take it to tribunal or something.

You are literally being abused and taken advantage of and it's not something you have to put up with unfairly in today's society.

Man, I love permanent HO. I get to do shit around the house, in the garden, be with cat, be with gf, meet friends after work, not having to put up with neon lights, open office and pretending to work when there is fucking nothing to do. Pic related. Me every day when I don't have to talk to co-workers beyond mail.

Ask them to put you in some other room. Or, you know, join them

As a side note, I work on my own software when I'm not busy with work. I also automated a good chunk of my work by now.

Being paid during downtimes and between release windows to do my own shit is great.
