first for all business laptops

theyre all good you guys
well most of them at least

Has anyone done the Intel ME firmware update for their Sandy Bridge Thinkpads? I've tried to get it running on my W520 but whenever I run the Windows command line, I keep getting the error message "FWUpdLcl.exe is not recognized as an internal or external command", ie Lenovo's program cannot execute the ME update agent. Is there a way around this?

Is the thinkpad x60 still good?

Depends on distro. Win7 and both xp are shitty on it.

*blocks your path*

I'm planning on running probally debian.

What battery life checking utility should I ask the potential seller to send screenshots of?

lenovo's power manager will tell you how many cycles the battery has seen

it will also tell you it's full charge Wh capacity and it's original design Wh capacity, although this one can be inaccurate if the battery has not been calibrated in awhile, but any other battery checking utility would just give the same number

I might be a pleb, but what's wrong with new keyboards? I get that it's a bit different, but it's not as bad as people say

theyre a bit different feeling apparently (wouldnt know Im perfectly happy with the one my T430)
and they have a very bastardized layout compared to a regular desktop keyboard where the older classic keyboard was a bit closer to a regular keyboard.
that said the new keyboards are said to have less flex

honestly both keyboards are pretty nice feeling and especially if youre coming from a shitty laptop like me and are used to using shitty keyboards it really doesnt matter which one you use.

prtnscreen key should be a menu key

other than that I'm fine with it

CAN YOU POWER ON + LOG IN VIA FINGERPRINT READER IN LINUX

Woah man, just noticed that. I thought there was no such key

I have an x220 i7 model and when compiling it regularly goes up to 90+°C. Is it likely to be shit thermal paste or just fuck tons of dust?

possibly both, is the thermal paste the same as when you first got it?

been running a T61P for quite a while now with windows 7, and I gotta say, it's a damn nice machine. no slow down, consistent performance and video playback, and all while i play runescape in the background (yeah i'm a faggot).

Thank you for removing the HP garbage.

> (≤**30)

Dropped.

The layout

Yeah. I was planning to change it anyway, just haven't got round to it.

Got a t450 touchpad and a "high gamut" IPS for my t440p, let's hope this shit works out for me.

The panel is glossy, how bad did I fuck up?

Nothing personal, kid

yes, google it
there's an arch wiki article

newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=9SIA1ZD53R3965

Why's it so cheap?

Hey Sup Forumsuise i found this link thinkwiki.de/Tastaturrenovierung from a german wiki. And it seems like a way to restore the thinkpad's keyboard texture back. Have any of you tried something like this ? And if there is a german fag around can he translate this ?

seems pretty average

there's browser add-ons for that or just use google chrome, or google translate
translate.google.com/translate?sl=auto&tl=en&js=y&prev=_t&hl=en&ie=UTF-8&u=http://thinkwiki.de/Tastaturrenovierung&edit-text=&act=url

tl;dr lacquer, I think

My Toshiba's backlight just died and thinking of replacing it with a T530. Doubt it's worth repairing.

I'm looking at the following;
Lenovo T530 3rd Gen i5 2.6GHz 8GB 320GB
For $253.00 USD.

Thoughts?

well i did the translation but some details are not translated very well. Because i dont have a spare keyboard to mess with, i dont want to follow wrong instructions.

Is this a good price ?
ebay.com/itm/382099492714

Can you guys help.
My t420s screen stays black when I boot. It beeps after booting and flashing the light from the webcame with 1 - 3 - 3 - 1 beep which comes out to DIMM or Mobo problems.
What the fuck do I do? I took out the RAM, put it in the opposite slots and retried, do I need a new mobo?
Where do I get a cheap one from china or something, its not even the nvidia one, I'd replace it myself if its not too hard or is the price better to just get a new laptop?
Anyone have this prob or know how to fix?

i5

If it isn't the FHD panel don't do it.
T530 owner.

I had a similar problem, called Lenovo and they sent a next day air box, had it back in under 72 hours.

Best 1080p panel for a W530?

Guys, i need help
I'm planning to buy an old T530 with an SSD and a DVD R/W. Can i replace the DVD R/W for an HDD later ?

Which thinkpad is most usable but also gubmint proof? don't want me no management engine

Please put /tpg/ or some variant in the subject of the OP. You're evading my filters.

Buy Macbook Pro now, or wait for Thinkpad Retro this fall?

I hope they don't use that ugly logo.
Still, can't wait to buy a used one 5 years after it comes out

Has anyone here overclocked their cpu through coreboot?

And if so, what would be a better option i5 overclocked or i7? I'm assuming the i5 would clock a lot higher but maybe not.

>Still, can't wait to buy a used one 5 years after it comes out

THEY BETTER US A MXM GPU REEEEEEEEEEEEEe

My newly purchased x230's screen flexes in the upper left corner. Is this a big deal that will get worse over time? I did just get it within the last week, but I'll also be leaving the country come monday, is this a big enough deal to send it back?

Flashed my x60T to Libreboot but now the screen doesn't work because it turned out to be one of the screen versions that wasn't supported. Taking this as an opportunity to upgrade to a SXGA+ screen.

Libreboot supports both x60T SXGA+ screen versions, BOE-Hydis HV121P01-100 and HV121P01-101. Not sure what the difference between the two is though. Do both of these work with the stylus? I think I remember reading that one is glossy and the other is matte. Can someone confirm this and which distinguish is which?

Also, any reputable sellers out there? I've found a few panels on eBay but there's barely any info provided besides the model number. I have a feeling the sellers barely know English. No ad mentions anything about stylus support, matte/glossy, and anything about ThinkPads.

>Budget:
$200-300
>Location:
Hong Kong
>Size:
Nothing too tiny, but I need something portable, light and thin.
>Performance:
Need something with long battery life, I miss the MBP battery life from my work laptop
>Other requirements:
Weight- my current laptop is over 2kg, I need something I can put in my bag and not worry about lugging it around all day.

Thinking x220 or x240, thoughts?

x220 is cheaper

X230 with 9 cell battery. If you prioritise battery life over display quality, you could opt for a non ips screen too. I use mine for general office stuff, fucking around with HTML / CSS and browsing. 7-10 hours of battery life on average, sometimes more. Being in Hong Kong is probably going to be advantageous in acquiring replacement and upgrade components too.

Bump

think my t420 is dying lads. since building my ryzen machine it's been lying in my bedroom which is ridden with damp. i booted it up in between then and now and installed a base gentoo system on it and then left it there. yesterday i installed a new kingmeme ssd, ran tails on it for about half an hour and noticed that it wouldn't boot unless i took the battery out for 5 seconds. today i turn it on and the screen looks "red shifted", on a white background it looks as if the red is shifting and oscillating, the fan exhaust smells musty and the problem with turning it on and off is getting worse. has anyone got any clue of what to do? i tried the funny static discharge power button trick, seemed to do nothing.

Budget:
£30-70
Location:
UK
Size:
Doesn't really matter, just needs to be portable but nothing much bigger than about 12"
Performance:
Pretty much only gonna use this for basic level print "Hello world" tier programming and will always be near a power socket so battery life doesn't need to be much more than a couple hours, I just need something I can drag around with me, could run Linux and do basic internet browsing.
Other requirements:
None

T400?

*replaces it with classic tp keyboard*
Nothing personal chiclet-san

desu tfw i want the x220 but nobody ships to israel and those who do charge ((($200-$300))) just for the shipment
even from europe

מכיר מישהו באר"הב?

Can I put mac os x on top of coreboot? Thinking of getting an x230t, flashing coreboot and putting in a proper keyboard. Trouble is i need MacOS for work.

This Seems to have pretty much more than everything I'd need, However it does seem to be consistently over £70 when searching around eBay, but if I lurk for awhile Maybe I'll find one cheaper. If there is still a cheaper alternative to the T400 that you know of that'd be dope

Try gumtree

Help me /tpg/ for I am having a crisis of faith.
Long have a walked the righteous path with the stalwart T420s in pic related yet yesterday a temptor bestowed the in all but screen POS on the left in pic related. Sup Forumsentlemen, forgive the potato quality and deceptive angle but the screen quality of the T420s is truly cancer. This sad fact driven home by the consumer trash HP to its right.
>but I have to look at the screen all day long
/tpg/ breathren, whence can I find a worthy successor to the T420s yet with a display worthy of its heraldry? Can I have it all?

all thinkpads up until 2016 have shit screens that use low quality PWM panels that will fuck up your eyes; extremely noticeable especially on low brightness

the screen is arguably the most important part of the laptop, the part that interfaces that interfaces with the user

please think before you throw your money

forums.lenovo.com/t5/General-Discussion/Low-PWM-frequency-affects-recent-ThinkPad-models/td-p/3283063

youtube.com/watch?v=K8DtfmbDDEw

enjoy your shit screens

לצערי לא
אם יהיה מספיק ביקוש אולי כדאי לנסות לעשות רכישה המונית

I should've mentioned I'm Scottish, Most shit on Gumtree is down in London. Not sure how great of an idea it is to buy without actually seeing the product beforehand from Gumtree.

:/
קשה לי להאמין
אולי תחפש מאירופה?

Okay, what do then. How do the screens on the Latitudes and Precisions compare to Lenovo's efforts?

Damn Keb, that sucks.

check for reviews of the model and the display, look for PWM

of course it shows up on camera, but it's nowhere near that visible in real life
same shit happens with my t420 and t430

youtube.com/watch?v=4jrIUU6oFfM

why dont you lower the brightness and see how it feels, theres a reason high end displays are pwm free.

there is no benefit with PWM

Yes

thinkwiki.org/wiki/ThinkPad_Serial_ATA_Hard_Drive_Bay_Adapter_III

it looks the same because the pwm flickering is far faster than the human eye can perceive.
cameras can see it because they use a quick snippet of time, while our eyes are continually open

If I were to sell an X220, should I flash back the official latest BIOS or just leave the modded one in there?

I mean I considered that maybe a new buyer would just mess things up with the settings.

hoping i was gonna get auicker reply on the so called leddit

this has probably been asked/answered a million times but how do you clean the screen?

I have two thinkpads with dirty screens I always find conflicting advice when I google what to do.

piss on a towel works best, make sure it's your own though

Are these x220 temps unreasonable for browsing the internet?

Feels like my PC's gotten warmer compared to when I first got it two years ago (and replaced the paste myself)

pretty sure the ammonia in your pee will damage the screen

you have a laptop in your kitchen?

it's not rocket science, it's just a piece of glass

microfiber towel/rag for dust
damp microfiber towel/rag for gunk
window cleaner + microfiber towel/rag for caked on snot and cum

Is this a good one to get for $500?

i7-3720QM 2.60 GHz, 16GB, 500HDD, NVIDIA Quadro K1000M

I just need it for minecraft and internet

Your room is your kitchen when you live in a studio

no

Looks alright to me. pic related T420s whilst shitposting

what else would you reccomend in this price range?

220hz cant be seen? are you retarded?

Okay, just wanted to make sure. I probably just need to hose it with some compressed air then.

Thanks user

asus.com/us/ROG-Republic-Of-Gamers/ROG-SWIFT-PG258Q/

this monitor is 240hz, the PWM on thinkpads is 220hz

are you saying we cant see 240hz? why is Asus making a 240hz monitor?

Found an X230 for $120. Looks to be in good condition.

>i5-3320M

What should I checkfor? Apart from Bios password and Computrace?

Refurb X1 Carbon for $430 maybe.

wifi card linux support

broadcom is a PIA

the tablets suck don't bother

I think the (((T440))) has a decent screen

This is just copied and pasted from the posting:

>WIFI Intel Centrino Advanced-N 6205 (2x2 AGN 300Mbps)

Should I have issues?

This is for the non tablet version

meant for

pic is a tablet

I have the same card, works well in ArchLinux.

Thank you

Yeah, but thats not the pic from the ad, just a random pic

does it fuck work well in linux. guzzles power, refuses to work with power save mode and requires non-free firmware
