Just because something is free software, dosen't mean it is also not harmful, good, or should ever be used.
From personal experience, I used Debian for years.
It was rock solid and perfect.
Until at some point a few years ago, everything started to fall apart and break on me.
Correlated perfectly with their inclusion of Systemd.
I know nothing about init programs, but once I became fed up with it and moved to something that didn't use Systemd, all the problems I was having went away.
