Not OP but the trackpad is actually one of the best things about most Chromebooks. My cheap $150 Chromebook has a trackpad that's nicer to use than trackpads from windows laptops that can cost hundreds of dollars more.

I think it's because Google actually tests and manually calibrates the trackpads in each Chromebook. They're almost as nice to use as the MacBook/Surface trackpads.

depends on which device you get. the HP Chromebook 13 has a pretty nice IPS display. it's not retina or anything but it's pretty alright.

but the layout is pretty alright. you can use caps lock but holding alt when pressing the search button. the F1-5 buttons are still there if you hold alt as well.

If you throw Gallium OS on them they're actually quite nice. That said, you shouldn't spend more than $199 on one.

I'm planning on picking up pic related as soon as it drops at the local Best Buy. Core processor, quad-HD touchscreen, Android Apps, stylus, Linux courtesy of Crouton. I'm actually pretty hyped.

I've been using an "old" Samsung Chromebook cause I'm waiting for a screen for my chinkpad and it's surprisingly decent. The latest version of crouton is pretty neat. If I were to buy a new laptop it'd probably be new Chromebook.

At least you can use Notepad when not connected to the Internet.

Remove chrome OS, install a bigger SSD(optional), install the Linux distro of your choice. You now have a better laptop for college note talking or just having something light to take with you to browse the internet than a MacBook or surface pro that costs over a thousand less.

They're fairly comfy as a day to day shitposting box but I wouldn't want one as my main machine

I actually have that exact model. HP Chromebook 11 G1, Blue accents.
It's old but even after all this time, it's still bretty gud. And it's still being updated.

I had a surface pro 4 prior to taking it back to Costco. The screen was nice but I don't get all the fuss about the track pad. It kind of sucked. To keep it on topic, the one on my HP Chromebook is better.

Chromebooks are really only good for people who only use a browser. It falls flat after that. Plus, as a added malus, Chromebooks have the awful tendency to do something retarded with the trackpad.

You just have to tap with two fingers instead of one. Pushing the center of the trackpad only triggers a standard click.

you might have a defective unit. you're supposed to rightclick with a two-finger tap or push.

On Chromebooks, you can either tap or push to click, use two fingers to scroll vertically or horizontally, use a horizontal two finger swipe to navigate forward and back in a tab's history, two finger tap or push to 'right click,' three fingers swipe up to see an overview of all the windows open at the moment. Seems pretty reasonable to me.

Clearly there is some difference between the models we've used because the one that I had was definitely a push down the center of the trackpad model. It said as much in the instructions manual.

Why get a chromebook when you can get your standard issue Sup Forums memebook for the same price?

I don't remember the exact models I tried in stores, but there were Samsung and Acer ones on display. It looks like a rounded netbook from 5 years ago, terrible trackpad, combined with a terrible keyboard. The screen was nice though.

The HP Chromebook 13 does look nice, but I wouldn't be able to use Chrome OS myself. I guess it's good for anyone that will only web browse and work on a few documents.

You don't have to be an autist about the OS iff all you do is basic stuff anyway. On top of that, chrome OS happens to have the best battery life in most cases.
