why buy a MBP when you could put the money towards a Grom?

MBP 13 is god-tier hardware, don't fall for the ThinkPad meme.

Get a thinkpad with openoffice and you're set for college
If you need a stronger computer you can rent a desktop at your school
Save the money you would've spent and keep it for groceries

this
i like how /o/ is leaking here
just buy a 300$ laptop and put rest of the money into something non autistic

I already got a food plan for college which includes 3 meals a deal so i dont need the extra money.

Carbon x1 is pretty good!

Xps 13 and install gentoo on it.

Unless your school demands that you need to run a certain kind of software, college work is light work so you don't need a tricked out PC. If you're looking for a powerful "future proof" laptop, that's fine, but you have to understand that there is a probably a difference between your desires in a new computer versus the actual demands of student work

i would bet my battle station most people here would do just fine with a 300-500 dollar laptop

also
>giving more money to Jewpple

I rather buy a good laptop that doesn't break down in a year or runs like shit like a 300 dollar acer laptop will.

X270

can confirm, buy a used one pretty cheap but the build quality is super good

>Macbook Pro 13
this.
everything else is shit.
thinkpad's for people of color.

Current xps 13 has coil whine issue

They don't all have that. Only get it if your unlucky.

Let me know when you're ready to buy, OP. Someone has to take advantage you, might as well be me.

This. I bought an expensive laptop for uni only to end up using the university computers for all the cad and coding work I had. Mainly used my laptop for writing up the reports and doing research. A motorbike is a much more solid purchase for your uni years.

my reasons being:

1. It is a slut magnet, that will attach multiple over to you
2. Most portable
3. Most flexible laptop ever created. It works out of the box unlike anything ever seen.
4. No touch screen or shitty 2 in 1 PC or coil whine (Dell).

Get it. You won't regret it.

What dies Sup Forums think about the razor blade. Is it quality? here it is compared to a 2016 mac pro, which it seems to be copying the design.

this. definitely get the x1c5

I'll just get a surface laptop.

are you retarded?

just get a T430 and replace hdd with ssd. $250 and it's a tank.

why do you need a laptop for college...
macbook seems to be the best out of the options you gave me

Putting aside the questionable grammar and literally-who domain,

>According to first reviews

When the 2016 model was first released, there was a bug in macOS’ GPU switching code that tanked the battery life. It was fixed – permanently – about a month later.

Nice try, though, I’m sure you got some of these retards.

Oh I forgot to add
>$600 off if you go over to

TOPFUCKINGKEK

XPS 13. I'm surprised how low it scored, I'm disappointed in Sup Forums.

Yes, that was 10.12.2, issued in December 2016. It removed the battery life estimate because it was misleading and was never particularly accurate to begin with, much like every file copy dialog ever.

In my picture, you’ll see information about 10.12.3, released about a month later, rectifying battery drain issues experienced on the 2016 MacBook Pro due to improper GPU switching.

digital notes, programming projects, checking my pornhub account in class. the usual.

MacBook is the best by far but the most expensive so I would say for a good compromise get the ChinkPad

Surface Laptop are good too if you really need Windows

unless you will do nothing but pure web browsing and basic text editing, do not get a high resolution display

use pen and paper. for compiling you can use a lot of things. maybe your phone. fap with it too

what about 1440p the middle ground that X1 use

>Apple
>it's just broken

kill yourself

you obviously did not go to college where a laptop is essential

Have a XPS 13 9360, would recommend

Can we finally put an end to this meme?

Imagine a war between Linux and MacOS. I wonder who would bend over and take it in the butt.

It’s almost like software requires patches in response to emergent issues. Mind = blown.

>I wonder who would bend over and take it in the butt.

:^)

Get this faggy unfunny pasta the fuck out of here. It wasn’t funny the first thousand times, and it’s not funny now. Fuck, if you’re going to try and troll us, at least say something interesting instead of pasting something we get to read in literally every thread where Apple is mentioned. Play mind games with us or something. Pretend to be on our side, but subtly gaslight us. Something, ANYTHING other than this creatively bankrupt unfunny faggotry.

the screen size is pretty small, but you MIGHT be okay.

the problem is scaling. osx does an okay job but there is still blurriness. windows 10 does an okay job but there are glaring problems.

the REAL problem is when you do anything other than base os work. use RDP? use VMs? good fucking luck getting it to look good.

i bought a used macbook retina and after one day i realized my mistake. i can ssh into stuff and its nice, but i use lots of windows machines for work and anything vmware and rdp is DOG SHIT. you either have it fullscreen and everything is blurry as fuck making your eyes hurt, or you attempt to run it at native resolution and 'scale' which turns out like fucking GARBAGE.

windows 7 is utter shit, windows 8 is still utter shit, ANYTHING linux is somehow even worse

keep that in mind, i made the mistake and am now trying to resell my macbook, if i get something new it will be a 1080 display max

>ANYTHING linux is somehow even worse
there are working solutions now. wayland's here for gnome.

Le Wrong!

Le Die!!!

All wrong, and BEST OF ALL the MacBooks are unrivaled in Battery Life.

EVEN with quad core ultra 6920HQ the MacBook gets the best battery life of them all. You can't beat fucking battery life in PORTABLE device.

It's just nice to get the MacBook Pro because the Iris Pro allows one to do some 3d model werk in a pinch for those engineering classes that require a dirty model

>dat under load battery life
wew lad

>under load
>isn't plugged in

retard

>boasts about battery life
>plug it in
ebin

its not enough to get half of the shit working, and then you open something and the menu bar is miniscule and the text is fucking cropped because is 10000 pt font

the order of os's that scale correctly is osx > windows > linux

and osx is far from perfect. but the REAL problem is that with a normal screen on a mac you can easily go between all 3 without any issues, but with a retina display you are effectively shut out of anything other than osx

>He doesn't want battery life for doing light web browsing and other activities that don't put a processor under load
>He wants battery life for rendering in 4k in a fucking laptop

You're seriously missing the point of a laptop if you just use it to do heavy lifting and not a versatile mobile device. Laptops can do heavy loads when plugged in and when not are meant to do light activity. Gaming laptops are not meant to be used on battery power for example.

MacBook if you already have an iPhone, because muh walled garden ecosystem.

ThinkPad if you want MacBook-like performance but don't want an Apple product.

>1h 43m when not facebooking

MACTODDLERS ON SUICIDE WATCH

You're also comparing it against laptops with touchscreens, and 4k displays. Not exactly a fair comparison.

Provide example of one laptop with a quad core processor, modern graphics (like the 1050 or Radeon Pro 550), 16 GB of RAM, and 4k display too (all of the laptops shown in that image have 4k display) with good battery life under load.

What you are talking about here is 1 hour vs 2 or 3 hours. Doesn't fucking matter, no matter what load battery life is shit in a laptop.

No autism tier backpack full of lithium cells "laptops"

They all have around a 4k display, that is what makes it a fair comparison

Are you dumb? Should the MacBook be compared to 1080p displays as if that is what MacBooks use?

Epic maymay.

>all of the laptops shown in that image have 4k display
False.
1. You can't read since it says FHD on the dell on the right
2. the Macbook has a resolution of 2880x1800 this is not "around 4k"
3. The spectre x360 and UHD xps 15 are the only laptops on that comparison with 4k displays

How will mactoddlers EVER recover?

That is my mistake but it is actually smart to show the HD model for comparison on the side as for how much extra battery life going from UHD to HD will give in Windows.

I will say that at 15 inches the difference between 2880x1800 and 4k doesn't even matter, you are just cramming an unnecessary amount of pixels actually above what Apple does and contributing to how the MacBook wins the battery contest by far.

It's just a fact that all Mac users are gay

Doesn't change the fact that you're comparing machines with higher demanding "idle" hardware to a macbook with, spec wise, inferior hardware. You also are ignoring the fact that the FHD xps 15 is not using the 97wH battery, if it were it'd be head and shoulders above macshit.

>the same 7700HQ or 6920HQ as the other laptops
>not to mention the HP only uses a dual core 7500U and battery life stems solely from that for their case
>inferior hardware in the Mac

And yes I agree actually that Dell on the very right has no place in the series since the display and battery are different providing no control in analysis

Daily reminder that Intel bribes Apple and Microsoft to get all resposibility on Intel retarded thermals.

>macs literally have a key on the keyboard to get assfucked

>selectively ignoring the actual 4k displays and touchscreen on the HP and Dell
>ignoring the fact that the dell has a much better gpu

Daily reminder that Applel is a fucking joke.

>touchscreen
cancer

should count against windows laptops

>he thinks the GPU is in use while on battery life web browsing

Why does the HP cost so much

Just because you don't like it doesn't mean it isn't something the macbook doesn't have that puts an extra strain on battery life

4K screen and Quadro.

Can confirm this, my T430 took a glass of water straight to the back and it didn't give a shit

The MacBook also has a virtually 4k screen

The MacBook also has a workstation GPU

>a virtually 4k screen

Just kill yourself mactoddler.

>a virtually 4k screen
>2880x1800 vs 3840x 2160
FUCK OFF

The Radeon Pro 555 is not a workstation card.

That's doesn't make Intel less retarded tough.

it has neither of those
it does had a 2K screen though which is lovely

>Macbook Pro 13 vs Dell XPS 13 vs other crap
HP EliteBook 1040 G3

i went to college before laptops

What's a good Chinkpad I can get that's under 500 and not brick-shit heavy?

Even the heaviest 15" Thinkpad is only 6lbs, what are you, a manlet?

retarded mandatory intel graphics.

>GPU in a laptop
it's got thunderbolt, negro.

Not OP but I figure posting this here is better than making a new thread:

What's the best macbook-like laptop that has good compatibility with linux? I have a macbook that is starting to get close to replacement time but I'm not happy with the way apple is going with them. My main problems are the non-replaceable battery, the severe lack of ports, and the increase of price (I got mine for $1000 which is about the most I will pay for a laptop, all macbooks now are $1300+). I don't really care if the CPU, RAM, and SSD are non-upgradeable, though I'd be glad if I had a laptop where they are.

if all you care about is the color and construction you're going to be hard up. HP makes some cheap lookalikes.
