Is open source software communist?

Is open source software communist?

Yes

Would that be bad? I see similarities in the free software movement and socialism.

>buy something
>get to do whatever you want to with it
Gonna have to go with no.

Is being able to own your software and do whatever you want with it communism? Hmmm....

No, but I wish it was

NO, Hitler said closed source is the way of the jew

It is because a corporation doesn't own it and it doesn't own you. Not being a slave nowadays is communism. And communism is good.

Quite the opposite.

>Isn't it ironic that the proprietary software developers call us communists? We are the ones who have provided for a free market, where they allow only monopoly. If the users chooses this proprietary software package, he then falls into this monopoly for support. The only way to escape from monopoly is to escape from proprietary software, and that is what the free software movement is all about. We want you to escape and our work is to help you escape. We hope you will escape to the free world. The free world is the new continent in cyberspace that we have built so we can live here in freedom. It's impossible to live in freedom in the old world of cyberspace, where every program has its feudal lord that bullies and mistreats the users. So, to live in freedom we have to build a new continent. Because this is a virtual continent, it has room for everyone, and there are no immigration restrictions. And because there were never indigenous peoples in cyberspace, there is also no issue of taking away their land. So everyone is welcome in the free world, come to the free world, live with us in freedom. The free software movement aims for the liberation of cyberspace and everyone in it.

>he doesn't like communism
Go away classcuck.

No because you don't stand in the line and use ration stamps to download the software

Uphold marxism-stallmanism
topkek

Free software is.

In what way?

>is freedom communism?
user...

>We are the ones who have provided for a free market
they are the ones who rely on the state to enforce their licenses which is no different from the state enforcing a copyright claim

it's pure hypocrisy is what it is

It doesn't have the limitations open source software might have.

You're going full ancap. Stop it.

meant for

and on what proprietary software companies rely on enforcing their shitty eulas, ndas and other lawyer bullshit?

If FSF was allowed a privately owned GPL police force funded by donations from users to curbstomp every violator, they would.

Foss vs. proprietary is cathedral vs. bazaar, not capitalism vs. communism.

$15 per stock by tomorrow.
BUY BUY BUY

Yeah, having enforceable contracts is anti-free market.

I'm 100% you're absolutely clueless and you're just regurgitating phrases you've read on the internet without properly understanding them.

He's actually giving the only sensible non nu/gpol/ comment in this whole thread.
What a faggot amirite

Ahahahhaha

Yes

don't samefag please

It's the good kind of communism.

(Your)
> not knowing how to check samefagging
you must be 18+ to post user

the point is that foss people vilify drm or copyright laws but then want the same thing to protect their content because they think it's just. I'm not saying one shouldn't or should be allowed, or whether one is right or wrong. I'm just saying they are blatant hypocrites. Richard stallman is a hypocrite and foss is a cult not a meme.
heh

even linus has said he thinks the fsf is full of bigots and liars lol

literally who

No. It's licensed under a free market system, and you have the ability to modify, distribute, and even sell it.

I see, user. You make a good point. Yeah, GPL wants to kill copyright and licensing by abusing the system. That's kind of their shtick. If you say "the GPL doesn't apply to me", you are admitting you are in violation of copyright because in lack of a license that's the only thing that would legally allow you to use that software.
I doubt that it's hypocritical. It's like saying that overthrowing the government is hypocritical because you used state military weapons in the uprising. We'll have to agree to disagree.
I agree however that FOSS is much more cultish than I would like it to be.

%100 clueless for imagining I could ever educate an idiot like (You).

coming from a guy who tells people in emails that they should be retroactively aborted, kek

No, they just want to be free. Under communism, freedom is impossible.

>Paying for free software

You're mistaken.

Being open source is not communism, being forced to be free because of open source in the other hand

yeah but linus rarely takes a hard stance on things. One is not breaking userspace. Another is gplv2/v3 and the fsf
I stay away from gnu projects for these reasons. I've been planning on getting rid of gnu from my OS, I just haven't gotten around to it.

no, you can leave without being shot
audibly kekked

>people on this board unironically defend corporations

If by open source software you mean free (as in libre) software then yes.
