I'm preparing to move to Moscow in a year. I've got a couple of questions about my name.
1. My name is Джoнни (Johnny in cyrillic). What is your opinion about meeting someone with a western name? I will probably live there for the rest of my life.
2. Do you think I should change my name to Ивaн? If so, why? Give a good reason for/against.
3. What would the diminutive forms of Джoнни be, since it's a western name? Since the Russian equivalent name is Ивaн, I guess it would be Baня? Or would it be something else? I guess something like Johnushka, John'ka or some shit like that? How would it work?
lol wtf ur name is american, do whatever u want man

I already take them, and thanks to that I know that I would never move to shithole Italy. ;)
Yes it is, and that is why I am asking for help.

Why would you want to move to such a country full of subhumans? You must be a Ruskie Faggot yourself.
Oliver Moore
if you want to hang out with bydlo than you should change your name, otherwise Johnny is better.
Parker Ramirez
2. Do you think I should change my name to Ивaн? No. Stay true to yourself no matter where you go. Peole will know you are foreigner anyway, there is no point in changing your name unless you are a spy. Plus Johnny already is a diminutive.
If I were you I would think about patronimic. Everyone has patronimic in Russia. What's your father's name?
Hudson Lewis
>I already take them, and thanks to that I know that I would never move to shithole Italy. ;) You should, basic health system is free here, they would fix your head
Evan Allen
No. I have a stable internet income and with that I can live okay in Sweden but live like a king in Russia, and I absolutely loved it every time I've been to visit Moscow.
>if you want to hang out with bydlo than you should change your name, otherwise Johnny is better. Hehe no I don't want to hang with street trash. Thanks for the honest reply. I like my name and would only change to Ivan if it was better.
>No. Stay true to yourself no matter where you go. Peole will know you are foreigner anyway, there is no point in changing your name unless you are a spy. Wow, that made me laugh and is also great advice. True, people will know I am a foreigner anyway.
>Plus Johnny already is a diminutive. Oh, I didn't realize that. Is it because of the soft "ni" word ending? That's surprising. Mind explaining?
>If I were you I would think about patronimic. Everyone has patronimic in Russia. What's your father's name? That's a very good point. I don't have a patronymic but I definitely need one. My father's name is Hans: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hans_(name) Which in turn is a short version of Johannes, which in turn is related to... oh shit... Ivan! :o
Ivanovich? ;) Heh, I guess that would be it?

There's no point trying to invent something weird like "Hansovich" (eww). So I think it'd be Ivanovich. Correct me if I am wrong.
I know that people call each other by first name + patronymic all the time in business/formal settings.
So I guess I should get used to hearing: Джoнни Ивaнoвич

Translating your name depending one who you're talking to isn't really "changing" it. I've used different names in different languages my whole life.

Dylan Thomas
True, except I wasn't talking about just using a different name among a group of friends. I meant legally changing it as my one chance during the citizenship process. But I would only change it if necessary. Glad to hear Джoнни will be acceptable. ;) I mean, every Russian person knows about Джoнни Дeпп (Johnny Depp), so I assume they're kind of used to the name already and it won't be too weird.
I suggest you start a pornsite and film Russian girls for cheap and you won't have to beg. ;)
That's true, which is why Moscow or St Petersburg is my choice. There's so much misery in the smaller cities. I like what I experienced in Moscow.
Haha, no, I understood that you called me stupid too for moving to Russia to get away from crazy muslims. But I don't think it's stupid. I like what I experienced in Moscow, and the fact that money buys a lot more in Russia than in Sweden. I love the language and the culture. We'll see if I break down and move out after 5 years. Then we can say you were right. ;) But Europe is becoming a muslim country and it's so fucking insane here now, I just want to leave. My money goes far in Russia, the women are beautiful, and I love the language (will start studying deeply starting next week).
True, Russia is rising.
What? He left Ukraine to go to Poland? That's insane. That's hardly an improvement.
>please revoke your swedish citizenship I may have to, since there's a new law against dual citizenship. No problem, I can always get Swedish citizenship back if I need it.
Yep. This. And I am not going there looking to start fighting the street trash. That's easy to avoid. Not running around with expensive clothes in the worst parts of town on a weekend is eaaasy.

Just double-checked... Yep... Swedish people are cucks as always. It is so easy to get my citizenship back if I need it. I just have to request it and they re-grant it immediately, no questions asked. It literally says on the government site: "If you have lost your Swedish citizenship as part of becoming a citizen of another country, you can reclaim your Swedish citizenship at any time."
But I do not want my future kids to grow up in Sweden when it's even more of an Islam hellhole than now.

I don't use different names among friends. I would never use my English name in my first language or the other way around. This applies to everyone. Strangers, friends, family, teachers, everyone. It's just the way I've always done it since I was a kid. It would feel wrong to do it differently. My legal name is actually in English but I'm thinking of changing it but continuing to use the English form while speaking English. > What? He left Ukraine to go to Poland? That's insane. Do you use the equivalent in the foreign language(Such as William in English and then Guillaume in French) or do you just pick a new name?

>the swede is smelling eu civil war and hes clever to avoid it. That is exactly why I am leaving. Sweden is on a time bomb to civil war between violent islamic radicals and Swedes. There will be bombs everywhere when it turns out 5-10% of the migrants were ISIS. I will laugh from afar at "refugees welcome" idiots being blown up.
Never been to St Petersburg, but a friend of mine documented his trip a few years back, you can learn a lot from him: youtube.com/user/LateBlt2/videos (Go alllll the way back and start watching his videos about why he moved, and how he felt there, and you will experience a lot about St Petersburg). It's a beautiful city for sure.
I know a bit of Russian but I am starting immersion training next week (basically getting all my news in Russian, watching TV shows and movies entirely in Russian, and training every day, to expand my vocabulary). If you want to know more about learning languages fast, go to fluentin3months.com/forum/ (3 months is just a catchy title; it's a good site and they never claim it takes 3 months, but they DO claim that it never takes years, and they're right, it takes about a year if you are passionate and intelligent; don't let other people put their limitations on you and claim it takes years, if it does that then you're doing it wrong)
James Powell
>This seems correct but Джoнни Ивaнoвич is just cringeworthy. I'd go with Ивaн Ивaнoвич or Джoнни Хaнcoвич.
Oh, yeah you have a strong point; I shouldn't mix native and foreign names like that.
Ivan is fine but you know as well as I do that "Ivan Ivanovich" is the most common male name because there are so many Ivans. I don't want to do that.
Джoнни Хaнcoвич it is then! It doesn't sound so bad anymore now that I got used to it. Hansovich... There are even a few people in history with that patronymic, so it's not unheard of.
Connor Murphy
Why not move to Central America like smarter people?
Levi Morgan
Well, neither of my first two language are really "foreign" since I learned them both before starting school. But, yes, I use direct equivalents. I didn't really pick anything because this is just how I've done it my whole life. It would be really awkward for me to just settle on one name.
When it comes to speaking actual foreign languages that I learned later in life, I'm still confused on what to do. One foreign languages is close enough to my native language that there is really no need to translate my name, and the other foreign language I've only ever spoken with other English speakers at school, so I just use my English name just like them.
Levi Reyes
Hah, I have a friend in Brazil so I could do that, but fuck no, central america is absolutely awful. It's like a barely civilized jungle full of fat latinas shitting out 15 kids that roam the favelas.
Wyatt Reyes
That's why you stay in the villages full of Americans.
wear cheap clothes and buy russian clothes, nobody will bother you.

Dude, I've always wanted to visit Ireland, could you tell about it? And I will provide you with any info about SPB, I was born here and I live, I know a lot about Piter.

Doesnt matter. You are just a guy which can see further then his blind kindreed. Russia is a good choice and also new zealand. Western part is good untill everything starts. Siberia would be greater choice latter on. But you can stay in moscow and earn some money till everything starts.

Yeah, definitely no problem at all. There's lots of people with Хaнcoвич as patronymic due to migrants named Hans, heh. Thanks for the advice! It definitely makes more sense to keep both parts of the name western, and I don't think "Ivan Ivanovich" would be anything but laughable on me (it's the most stereotypical Russian name).
Джoнни Хaнcoвич
Interestingly, yandex translates Хaнcoвич as Jancovich. Would I pronounce it Johnny Jancovich? From the spelling I assumed It was pronounced Hansovich.
Landon Anderson
No, there are enclaves full of Americans and some Europeans who live there because its cheap and warm.
Kayden Price
What should I visit except Dublin? I don't like capital cities, desu

If you watch them in chronological order (oldest first) you will get a better feel of it than any forum post could do. :)

That's true, I like Novosibirsk, and if the shit affects the western part of Russia I will just move east.
You know what's funny? They call these immigrants "minorities" but they are actually the world's majority population. White people are the minority in the world. It's sad how brainwashed we are and how every white person is apologizing for even existing anymore.
But not Russia. They say fuck muslims who don't adapt to OUR ways of life.
Xavier Myers
My dacha is out west, so in places like Mayo or Cork, beautiful countryside and great for things like surfing holidays, very sparsely populated compared to Dublin
Sort of a medieval town, founded around a fortress, full of old buildings. So no, Russia doesn't feel weird to me.
Also, lol at this photo... that white sign on the left is the "PC Data" computer store. I haven't visited those pricks in years. They overcharge like hell.

Oh actually another thing I thought of is the Wicklow Way, you could spend a weekend in Dublin before hiking/camping that trail, it's one of the prettiest places here

Pictures may look differently from reality; in fact, Novosibirsk is a typical grey city full of commiblocks, with broken roads and atmosphere of depression. Believe me, I live here.
Jeremiah Flores
Nah it is okay, you watch to much hollywood movies.
Andrew James
Yeah I believe you, I suspected it was like that when you inspect it closely. I wonder if it's different because I didn't grow up like that, but I don't actually mind broken roads and cracks in the walls in apartments and stuff like that. It's just a house. What matters is friends and family.
