The 1k range will be a new one for me as well. I kind of don't want to get the audezes because I hate their design.
I'm rather young and while I'd use them mostly at home, I still don't want to spend 1k on something that doesn't fit my taste at all. The technologie behind them is interesting af, but for the price I'd like something that looks nice to me. Maybe I'll just try to get my hands on a T90 or something...

are the Philips X2/00 good for 170 euros?
what's the difference between an internal soundcard and an external amp and dac combo

I had the X1 over for repair just a few days ago. The construction is ass, if you drop it once, the cable canal inside the headphone might break, killing the connection.
I fixed them and gave them a quick test. They're neither the worst nor best headphones I ever tried. If you want them stationary and didn't try them out yourself by now, I'd maybe rather go for something else, because their looks is probably their best feature.
Soundcard or external amp/dac is basically the same. There are however not as good soundcards as external amps/dacs.

Seems like German Amazon is out of them, which is a shame, since the US one has the chrome edition for $300. Still, some stores should still have them, you'll probably know better where to look. They're also piss easy to drive so you probably won't need an amp. If you liked the DT880 you're basically guaranteed to enjoy the T90, or you can play with the EQ before returning them. For that price I don't think they have a competitor that can offer the same in terms of build quality and sound signature.
There's still the DT1990 which I think is worth a try. I'd definitely like to get my hands on them sometime.

rank my cans /autismgeneral/

oneofthem/10
yeah, there are some shops still listing it. maybe I'll be able to get one for cheap at some point. A T90 for 200 bucks would certainly be a nice deal.

your bling game is fire fâm

Try out the focal elear. Best built headphones ever, but the sound signature might be different from what you're used to.

Pls help I'm a headphone normie and need something for library, travel, studying etc.

Needs to be extremely comfy (will wear up to 8 hours) and I want fairly neutral (maybe slightly warm) sound. Obviously needs to be closed since it will be used in public.
Budget is around 200-250 €.
I have no idea what I want, can be IEM, full size closed, wireless...

would HD598s or M50s be better for post-rock, in terms of sound quality?

DT250 80 ohm

HD598; always choose open if isolation is not a concern.

How do I throughly clean the headphone pads? They are giving me spots on my face because they are so dirty. I have the HI 2050

If they're removable, shampoo them with as little water as possible then stick them in front of a fan overnight to dry.

so I soak them in water and shampoo them?

Don't soak them. Apply shampoo then drip water onto them, as little as possible, just enough to make the shampoo foam up. Remove shampoo not by rinsing under a faucet, but with a damp cloth. I would try my hardest not to thoroughly soak the earpads to avoid mildew issues.
Yes, I have done this myself with velour earpads in the past. It works.

There red on my headphones pad, I don't know where it got them from but would doing this remove them too?

Idol trash here.
What's your setup like, user?

What are some good looking closed headphones?
Currently im looking at the Sennheiser 598CS, but im just wondering if there are better sounding headphones at around this price range (167 euro on amazon). I've looked at the beyerdynamic DT770 but they look like complete autism and i wouldnt dare to wear them outside, which is not the case on the sennheiser ones.
Any help would be appreciated.

Only one way to find out.

Don't. Bad sound. Universally hated.
For a closed Sennheiser, look into HD380 Pro. It uses the same drivers, but isn't outright garbage.

I'm gayyyyy

Try /u/ or /y/.

/u/ here, we don't want him.

what do you think about ath-m50x????

ath-m50x
>niggerbass headphones

This.

Is a Bose QC35 good? Someone hinted theyd give it to me as a present and it sounds decent but have also read Bose is somewhat of a meme. Thanks

Just looking for good all rounders since I listen to shit from bassy electronic music to jazz piano.

Meant over ear instead of on ear

Anyone tried the Status CB-1s? Asked during the prime day stuff about them vs m40x but bought CB-1 purely for the isolation as I'll need to travel. So far I love them, they don't seem to have as shitty of a build quality as I'd been led to believe and they're much better than my previous cans (Senny HD215) Anyone got experience with them down the line? How do they hold up?

Not the best DAC/amp but gets the job done. IEMs are brilliant, sadly discontinued. Might upgrade to ER4s if these stop working (they haven't in 10 years so it may be a while).

HD558

Don'y buy you're pic related, they're genuinely horrible.

what if you're a horrible person? horibble + horrible = not horrible

nice nice, good taste.

I have a question about Etymotics, they are really better that shure e215 for example? or s just another kind of sound, i really dont know i give them a chance

Custom Studio
They recently got a lawsuit for their headphones being botnet. MDR1000X is the only good alternative if you need ANC otherwise there's better options around that price.

Pretty sure that's not how it works

Closed, because gamer living with other people so don't want to disturb and also want to listen in public

Doesn't need to be the absolute best but good enough to wear for hours on end

>Sound signature
Music pleb, balanced is fine or with a little bit more bass

Razer Kraken Pro. The earcups put on wayy too much pressure, outside ear starts hurting and turns red after extended use. Would like to get headphones that make music more pleasurable than my 8 euro chink earbuds

Also should be good looking so I could use them in public without looking weird

Decided to order 3 more VE Monk+

CB-1/Somic MM185
XPT100
Anything from Superlux except the 681 EVO

>it is a 5usd earbud for god sake, so one week warranty should be good. which means, we will do some about the monk if they are broken within 7days of its arrival, I don't care if u used them or not, that is simply the rules. If guys won't follow my rule, i will of course, block whoever for life, and yes, if one open a dispute against me on AE for some BS, chances are they might even win and get a full refund, I don't even care of course, I will just block those a-holes for life.

>our fee on AE is shipping and handling fees , I meant , it is a 5usd earbud, and we learnt from our past mistakes , we will be shipping with boxes even just for one unit, but the shipping fee is raised a bit higher on AE, so u r paying for shipping and handling fees guys, plz don't ask me why the fuck this shit is not as heavy as we charge for its shipping, cuz we need to pay our new shipping-girl, she is awesome, she is not from this town , and she might even get married and have nice baby , so we need to treat nice so that she will treat u nice and I won't have to get pissed all day cuz our other team members are helpless in this kind of job...... and I will admit i am the worst among them lol

You might find a K550/K553 within your budget.

Anyone know the pros and cons of velour and leather ear pads? Which one is better on open headphones?

I feel over-ear might be better for comfy levels, but this could be just a problem with the 202's - after having them on for a long time ears slightly hurt from being pushed against skull.
>Sound signature
neutral or warm, don't care that much

Sehnheiser hd202 because I was a poorfag. They're falling apart so I figured I might get something better, now that I can afford it.
I tried ATH-M50x at a friends place and loved them, so maybe I should just get that?

>full sized, general use, at computer, isolation not a must, $170 budget
Reads as open, neutral, comfortable.

With your budget, look into HD579, HD598se/sr and HD558, in that order.

>I tried ATH-M50x at a friends place and loved them, so maybe I should just get that?
See

Love this dude, just zero fucks.

Sounds like shit, FR is all over and irregular.
They are THE most comfortable headphone, you can literally sleep with them in any position. The sound is pretty neutral and muddy but not unpleasant. The MDR1000X are much better if you are willing to sacrifice a little bit of comfort.

DT770 80 Ohm or Custom Studio

Velours are comfier for many but don't isolate as well. Changing earpads changes the sound of headphones so it's generally not advisable to use velours on a headphone designed for leathers or vice versa, unless you have a highly repeatable home measurement setup than you can use for EQ purposes.

Will add SHP9500 to recs.
Avoid DT770. Custom Studio is fine.

am I retarded for wanting those lacquer'd lsr305s on massdrop? they're also matched to within 1db with a certificate, and have some fancy feet. I figure they wouldn't perform noticeably better than the regular 305 for casual use, but they would probably resell for very high or at least retain their value, right?

Factoring in shipping costs, you'd be lucky to get back what you paid unless your not in the US. They'll hold value as well as the regular 305.

>SHP9500
Cheap, does well against HD558.

Looking for some headphones most niggers wear out n' about. You guys seem to know some?

you are now aware that you are probably wearing cow asshole skin on your head right now.

No leather here, just cloth.

>they're also matched to within 1db with a certificate
do you really believe in this marketing bullshit?
if you want useful feet then get 25mm sorbothane hemispheres

Sennheiser HD600. They can also be used as a weapon. Simply grasp both cups tightly, point the headband at an enemy, and pull as hard as you can. The headband will snap and send shards of plastic flying at the target at a high speed. While not lethal, it will certainly be enough to hospitalized anyone for a few weeks. Eye protection is recommended. Shards will also come flying back at you although not as many.

What is the second best headphone ever made behind the HD600?

HD580

HD 600. 580's first.

>and overall worse than m40x
I know your opinion about Rtings but anyway try their "Side by side" to compare M40x and M50x.

>rtings
rtings.com/headphones/graph#295/323/296
To be fair, m40x might look somewhat less niggerbassy and more neutral, but both do look horrible. m40x has the advantage of being cheaper

For measurements (including raw measurements) that aren't shitty retard rtings measurements:
goldenears.net/board/GR_Headphones/5322081
goldenears.net/board/GR_Headphones/5705574

The 579 seem nice, however I'm a bit unsure about them being open - I never used open headphones.
tbhqf I might need the isolation, if neighbors are being fucks or something

>tbhqf I might need the isolation, if neighbors are being fucks or something
Open will be hearable by people *in the same room* if you drive them LOUD as in unhealthy low.
Your neighbours? Not a chance.

That's what I've meant. I have M40x and they are nice when I'm mowing my lawn. They are not great but they are pretty neutral. If M50x really have more bass and treble then I've would take M40x over them any day. Also I've had M20x and they are really bad compared to M40x.

*unhealthy loud
*neighbors
Fuck, I can't typoe today.

>non-retarded measurements
Hell, these golden ears measurements make m40x look way better than on rtings. Particularly, the midrange is much less of a mess.

I don't understand shit in these. Can you explain?

Also there are
reference-audio-analyzer.pro/en/report/hp/audio-technica-ath-m40x.php
reference-audio-analyzer.pro/en/report/hp/audio-technica-ath-m50x.php

Open headphones leak in a similar way as shitty $5 earpods when they're helluva loud.
They will annoy people sitting right next to you, but that's about it.

tl;dr: M50x are very bassy and dark sounding, M40x are slightly bassy and dark sounding.

Do amps and/or dacs distort the Dbs of the frequency of the sound in anyway?

I wish they'd publish their compensation curve.

That also makes m40x look far better than m50x.
m40x are more neutral, less bassy and dark, more flat in the midrange, all of this making them more accurate, and therefore better.

Could be unit variance. I know my K44 sounded a lot flatter than my M40X to my ears.

amps and dacs should be transparent unless they massively suck.

As an added note, be careful about:
>HD599
Almost identical FR as HD579. Much more expensive. For-the-riffraff tuning, has trouble with bass mulling everything else, which HD579 doesn't suffer.
>HD598Cs
Closed headphones that hold no relation to HD598 other than the name. Universaly hated, the FR is utter garbage.
>HD559
HD558 refresh. Worse than the HD558. Suspected to be deliberately gimped, as HD558 was very good value.

I meant the other way round, as in *I* will hear them.

If not playing music? Sure, you'll get a little isolation, but generally hear your surroundings just fine.
Else, the louder the music, the less you'll hear from your surroundings.

My roots are in classical, world, R&B, club jazz, folk rock, industrial, new wave, and house. I really enjoy shoe gaze, trip hop, vocal trance, and big beats, post grunge, and ambient.

I stream a lot of TV, and movies, too.

What is an excellent mid price pair of headphones for a guy like me you audiophiles might recommend?

>people actually recommend Sony MDR-1000X over Bose QC35
>in the same threads as the infamous snapheiser

HD600 with a Fulla 2, obviously.

I assume this is for use at home and that you're ok with open. You never provided a budget, so look into:
HD600, HD579, HD598se/sr, HD558, SHP9500
In descending order of preference.

600>599>598> dumabass

dumbass*

>HD600 with a Fulla 2

Will look into it; ty.

Careful 599 is a worse 579 that distorts when there's bass and costs some +50%.

It is for home, but also work from home a little with media. Mid range was my price range. Thank you.

can the fulla 2 drive those? I thought fulla 2 was form

Siously I know this question has been asked many times but what amp and dac would be needed for the HD600 to put it to its fullest potential?

>audio work
It was a good idea to point you to the more neutral sennheisers, then. Neutral is better for general purpose do-everything-well headphones, but it is a _requirement_ for actual audio work.
A Magni2 with a Fulla2 will suffice. If you want to throw some money at it, there's the modi+magni uber stack option.

Theorically, yes.
In practice, yes unless you want your volume unhealthy loud. It suffers a little near the max.

I'm using HD600s with a Fulla 2 and the sound is nice but I feel like the low end and fullness will benefit from an amp with more power.

How the Objective2-dac combo compared to the modi and magni uber?
