If aluminium is a good electricity conductor why aluminium pc/laptop cases exist

the patrick meme suits you

Lol I know. They even put fucking silicon in the chips, which is an insulant lol how the fuck is the electricity for the CPU supposed to move in there?!

Aluminum*

Cases serve as ground for the motherboard, so they should conduct electricity.

That's why the screw holes have metal around them.

Can you get electrified? I mean not in deadly doses, you know what i mean, what about the other pc components, can you fuck them up with the electricity the aluminum case conducts?

Yes.

No.

Maybe.

what do you think, would you as an electronics producer enjoy having your consumer base electrocuted?

That isn't why aluminum is used though. It is because it is light and strong and can be presented as a premium alternative to plastic cases. Because all plastic cases can be lumped together and the shit ones drag all the rest down.

I once had broken PSU that put power on the case.
I don't know why but apparently it's only half the voltage - 115V instead of 230V.

I did not have a grounded socket and I got shocked several times before I figured it out. (at first I assumed it was static).

I'm not a baby so a little electricity doesn't kill me.

I've never actually seen a plastic case.

AFAIK the vast majority of cheap cases still have a metal frame and metal side covers.
Large plastic components are quite expensive to make, thin sheets of metal are dirt cheap and easy to bend into shape.

a better question would be
>if aluminum is a soft as fuck play-dough metal then why does everyone want to use it as a case

american public schools don't teach about conductivity and proper grounding techniques. Here, "grounding" means taking axanax and watching greys anatomy

Yes

Why are ships made out of metal if they have electricity, and both metal and salt water are conductors?

I swear to god this better be a joke.

Silicon is a SEMICONDUCTOR

>what are standoffs
>what are solder masks

Blame apple for the first wave of the great unwashed into the internet. Make it so an idiot can use it....idiots use it.

Because it's cheap and light compared to corrosion resistant steels and stiff/strong compared to plastics.

Titanium and Magnesium are too expensive.

What about carbon fibre?

Uhhh no? Rubber/rubbery materials are insulants, everyone knows it. Ever seen something made of silicon? It's clearly an insulant

This joke is older than racism

Shut up nigger

Some plastics are better than most metals.
also thats a nice chart. Its too bad it looks like a disgusting cell or worm ridden meat.

>its another Sup Forums tries into electricity episode
cmon guys, more volts = less amps so 230V is safer, lets do dis :^)

>would you as an electronics producer enjoy having your consumer base electrocuted

Maybe, if it was their fetish

>stiff/strong compared to plastics.
that's false. There are plenty of glass fibre reinforced polymers that are as as strong if not more strong (in case of certain forces) than aloominoom.

Aluminum reacts with oxygen, it always has an isolating layer of Aluminum oxide

There are treated grades of aluminum that are as hard as some steels. But companies are too cheap to mill and then treat the enclosures

Yea, its all recycled soda cans

cause it's light, soft and more expensive

Good looks, good thermoconducter.

I don't know.

It has ok properties, worse than good plastics but most importantly feels premium.

It's all about fashion.

Conductivity doesn't matter.

Thx
