I've been trying it, using multiple recommended settings and the difference I see is minimum (x264 Blu-ray, Nvidia card, MPC-HC, 1080p), the only way to notice is to literally pause the video, take a screenshot and then compare it to the same frame without madvr.
Is there any research or tests conducted regarding this? Like a double-blind study where a group of random people, madvr users, film critics and people with 20/20 vision are shown the same set of videos in the same screen with the same lighting and overall conditions, twice, in a random order and they have to tell which had the highest quality video with the controls not knowing what a filter or a renderer are. Assuming they were shown 10 videos, 5 with madvr and 5 without it, they would have to beat a coin flip.
yeah. It's just a placebo thing born in a av nerd circlejerk forum. Just use mpv
Ayden Price
in my experience madVR does quite a bit better with anime, especially old stuff. Normal movies and stuff do look better than WMP, that's for sure. I use muh madVR+NNEDI3 anyway, otherwise I feel like my hardcoar rig is being useless here.
Angel Garcia
madVR even when con figured correctly is just bloatware, I haven't noticed any visible improvement other than when using the scaling algorithms, but even then you really need to take a screenshot and zoom in to notice it, it's about how noise is handled, if you're watching a video file with medium-high bitrate (every BD rip ever), there's literally no difference because there's not enough noise to notice it. Since madVR doesn't support avisynth I stopped using it and went back to ffdshow, it's much faster even when using filters and there's pretty much no visible difference despite being outdated software.
Lincoln Jenkins
No need for madVR. Follow this guide:
Uninstall your MPC-HC and let the uninstall remove old settings is it asks. Download the current FULL version of MPC-HC from codecguide.com. Install it. Choose to run Codec Tweak Tool at the end of the install. In the Tool, click on DirectShow Filters. Click on "ffdshow video decoder (x64)". Right-click in the window to the right. Choose "Set all stable formats to libavcodec". Click Apply. Click OK. Click "ffdshow audio decoder (x64)". Same thing there, set all stable formats to libavcodec. Close the Tool. In your start menu, click on Media Player Classic in your K-Lite Codec Pack folder. Click View>Options. Click Internal Filters. Uncheck everything there. Click Apply. Click External Filters. Click Add Filter. Find ffdshow Video decoder. Click on it. Click OK. Click Add Filter. Find ffdshow Audio decoder. Click it. Click OK. Close the media player. Find your movie file. Click it. Choose to open it with MPC-HC. Enjoy stutter-free video.

>tfw fell for the mpv meme but then got tired of manually updating it so now use default windows 10 film/tv app and can't see any difference
I later came to realise after talking to people, and this may help you out op, that things like madvr and mpv are only actually used by poor/stupid people who watch 480p Chinese kiddy porn cartoons on 1080p+ monitors and need upscaling quality and all sorts of debanding and smoothing due to shitty source material.
Watching HD content on HD screen like normal person you will see little to absolutely nothing and it's all a waste of time and resources.
Samuel Nelson
>click on Media Player Classic in your K-Lite Codec Pack folder. What you wrote never asked to install K-Lite, if you're going to copy and paste at least do it properly.
Bentley Ramirez
Ignore whatever madvr and mpv shills/apolohists tell you.
Chase Jackson
Total placebo-tier meme Ask any of these neckbeard nerds who obsess over madVR if they have ever run an ABX test to objectively tell the difference. Profile: they can't
Bonus tip:ignore any retards who tell you to install a codec pack. This isn't 2003, codec packs haven't been necessary for a decade
Jack Miller
You can both enjoy a movie and avoid absolutely noticeable uglinesses (unless you are blind) such as not fluent playback or banding (sometimes) all at the cost of spending 15 seconds writing in your mpv config file just this: profile=opengl-hq interpolation=yes video-sync=display-resample
Samuel Price
So there's no differences with 720p anime? I sick of low quality raws
Hudson Bailey
Fucking normalfag
Noah Powell
>the only way to notice is to literally pause the video, take a screenshot and then compare it to the same frame without madvr
I still don't see any difference, mpv autists and videophiles are becoming into audiophile tier.
Caleb Campbell
It's used by affluent, tech savvy people who watch 1080p content on their 4k displays
Landon Jones
>Download MPC >Wait for install >Download VLC >Wait for font cache >Download mpv >Instant enjoyment...
Ayden Rodriguez
Or you could stop using a shit player that doesn't even have official builds (>the software doesn't even have an official build AHAHAHAHAHAHAHA) and use VLC like non-retarded people do.
Zachary Barnes
>use VLC like non-retarded Pff haha There's a better player than both these little shit
Logan Russell
vr is a meme
Angel Edwards
What? You can run 30fps NNEDI3 online?
Elijah Sanchez
There's a little less artifacts here an there, but it's like finding fucking waldo, without magnifying I have to stare at a fixed point on my screen from less than one feet distance and change between the same two frames over 20 times, sometimes a dark line may be more marked, textures softened, exceptionally I'll see something I don't see under normal settings, like the smallest flaw on the skin of a face.
Kevin Garcia
if i gotta use opengl -backend=dxinterop can i still use interpolation and video-sync?
David Myers
Hi brainlet windowsfag. I am glad to let you know that lachs0r is a member of the mpv dev team and thus his builds are as official as it gets.
Jason Cook
But not everyone can afford Apple stuff. No.
Parker Sanchez
Except yes.
Adam Ortiz
>Apple Not even, it's free
Christopher Martin
>>the software doesn't even have an official build AHAHAHAHAHAHAHA That's because WIndows is such a huge piece of Pajeetware it requires layers upon layers of boilerplate code to get it working whereas on *nix (aka proper) operating system like macOS or GNU/Linux it works and compiles beautifully.
>Download mpv >Spend four hours messing with config files >Spend another ten minutes compiling a script to carry out simple tasks like opening a a file thatld have taken milliseconds with an actual GUI
Adrian Howard
>1080p What's the resolution of your monitor? madVR is supposed to be used for upscaling.
It's still a meme, though. But if you're watching a 1080p video on a 1920x1080 monitor you shouldn't see any difference at all.
Jaxon Myers
Why not use chocolatey to update your packages?
Landon Nguyen
>if they have ever run an ABX test to objectively tell the difference There's always SSIM and that's what has been used to research all these different scaling algorithms in the first place. Besides, most people use madVR for the scaler, which only matters if you use a huge display or a display with an odd resolution with respect to common video resolutions. Lanczos is more than enough for the average guy and anything else is way too excessive and people use those just because they have rigs that can.
Elijah Davis
>libav For real?
Aaron Cox
>But if you're watching a 1080p video on a 1920x1080 monitor you shouldn't see any difference at all. Am I supposed to watch 720p on my 1920x1080 native display to see a discernible difference?
Why mpv cant make some simple ui like mpc-hc ? is that really hard for them ?
Isaiah Campbell
madVR is not a meme tb-h
Jeremiah Young
I installed mpv and just use it vanilla
Blake Sanchez
Am I the only person here who can plainly see that's not the same exact fucking frame as the first one?
Colton Wilson
Tell me, why do you think it needs one? I personally try to use GUI-less software whenever possible, because usually it gets the job done better and easier, and I really don't think MPV is an exception .
Nathan Lopez
I like to click a file and it plays. I don't want to be sitting there writing a batch file command to make it do the same.
Parker Bennett
>He took the bait
Wyatt Gonzalez
>use VLC like non-retarded people do
Jonathan Gutierrez
Have you like even bothered to research about mpv at all? You can literally associate it with video files so you can just "click" your files and play them.
Caleb Lee
They updated their dlls on Windows to patch it.
John Ramirez
fool me once shame on you
Henry Bailey
vlc is pretty bad. something is off about the sound quality when i play music (i use foobar2000 instead) and the devs have such a shitty attitude about performance and they refuse to implement things like temporal interpolation because of asinine bullshit reasons. some videos are like 15 fps and you really do need the interpolation to be able to watch them
Nathaniel Evans
>Opens PDF supplied with MPV Holy shit autism!
Brody Flores
Just imagine if MadVR did frame interpolation.
Levi Gray
It should benefit all anime, its just the older it is the more work and easier to see the results are.
Carter Harris
Well go on and watch the video in GUI-less environment
