Because they believe higher price = higher performance and form > function
They're literally fashion accessories.

If you want an honest answer of a >10 year macOS user:
>cant turn off external monitor
I didn't even know you could do that? Is that even possible? My Win10 desktop doesn't have the ability to turn off my Dell monitor, neither my Mac, when attached to it. The monitor goes to sleep in both cases, unless you press the power button of the monitor.
>cant change volume on hdmi input
Yes, I have to admit, this is a bit annoying. I believe that the idea behind it is that you'd were to atrach a TV which has it's own volume controls, which would "complicate" things by having 2 individual volume controls. I do believe there are some third party utilities to fix this however. Not saying it is a perfect fix, since I've had my ears blown out by hooking up headphones to said same Dell monitor.
>cant hide menu items
I personally don't like having much cluttered bloat, so I don't have a ton of menu items, but I do like to see them all in the same bar, the status of the service changes the icon, making it nice to monitor. Plus they are all in the same style, meaning that they aren't an eyesore either. I do believe there are a few third party tools that add a tray like solution, but I've liked the neat look I have going. Pic related.
>cant merge folders
I personally never encountered a single time I needed to merge folders. Probably because of the way I have my files structured. There is however a merge like feature in Finder. Usually I'd drag the files to the new destination if it would be needed.
Forgot the pic, my bad.
whats worse mate, even the paid application bartender ($15 to hide fucking menu items) stopped working in high sierra
>cant turn off external monitor
wrong
>cant change volume on hdmi input
true
>cant hide menu items
wrong
>cant merge folders
wrong
A thread died for this. I want Sup Forums to leave.
>>cant turn off external monitor
>wrong
you mean by pressing the physical button on the monitor? I meant more like win+p key on windows
>>cant change volume on hdmi input
>true
>>cant hide menu items
>wrong
yeah, buy bartender2 for $15 and it doesnt even work on HS beta
>>cant merge folders
>wrong
yeah, and it will replace all your files with same name
Probably just needs a new update. High Sierra is in beta. You can't expect everything to work flawlessly yet. And developers are now supposed to work on fixing everything that might not work correctly before the full release is out. Things not working during the beta, and then getting an update for it when the release is out is a very common thing. I've seen that happening a lot of times.
>I personally don't like having much cluttered bloat
>a bajillion icons
maybe, maybe not
>yeah, and it will replace all your files with same name
Isn't that the point of merging a folder? Having the most up to date files overwrite the older ones? I mean, it's not even an issue if one or more would be better if they kept the old ones because you can revert those individual files with three clicks via Time Machine (which keeps local version of each file at any moment).
oh no, not the integrity of my menu bar!
lol, there are some icons you'll never be able to hide if bartender is kill
>you mean by pressing the physical button on the monitor? I meant more like win+p key on windows
no, I mean by either clicking a button or running a script. It can even be automated.
>yeah, buy bartender2 for $15 and it doesnt even work on HS beta
why would I buy bartender when there is open source software which achieves the same thing?
>yeah, and it will replace all your files with same name
are all windows users this retarded? I though osx users were supposed to be the retards
>5 third party icons
>6 mandetory/essential icons
>3 icons for convenience
There are a lot of Mac users who have way more items there. And the space would be wasted even if they weren't there. There's no program icons that get put in the Menu Bar like the taskbar on Windows. And the Menus from the left never reach the half of my display.
>why would I buy bartender when there is open source software which achieves the same thing?
talking out of your ass? which open source software is there that does that?
>can't switch back to the original resolution if the new resolution doesn't work on the monitor
???
It gathers all resolutions the display can handle.
