I got a PS2 in 2002 for my 11th birthday. I still have it and about a year ago I bought that Linux kit just for the hell of it since I play all my PS2 games in an emulator on my PC and my console was collecting dust. It was cool for a few days but with a 300MHz MIPS CPU and 32MB of RAM you can't really do anything productive.
